Silver Lake, OH(Zone 5b)

missed a whole day!

Hope you all had a wonderful Thursday. I finally planted everything that should be planted and tonight we're supposed to get a hard frost.

Winter, here we go. Supposed to have Indian Summer later this week though.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Good Morning - bet I am the first one up today - it;s 4:40am and I cannot sleep, plus was hacking for several hours before. Got up to take a pill and decided to stay up. My computer was giving me fits - wouldn't print no matter what I did. Fussed around pushing buttons and saying unkind things and low and behold, it seems to work again!! Just have to print off those sudoku puzzles daily!!

Just finished using a sandpaper thing on my heels -multitasking again!! Then creamed them up. I am putting vaseline on them daily to see if I can forstall the cracked heel syndrome that comes with winter. Still need to get to the store and get some burts bees stuff.

Speaking of going to the Am Embassy - how will all those bell players ever make it inside - sounds like a nightmare to me!! Hope all goes well!! I do understand all the security tho with what's happening in the world.

Still looking for a seed starting mat. Can anyone recommend one to me. I want to ask kids to get it for me for xmas. I have used a heating pad before but DH had a fit- saying it was unsafe.

Well, off to check out the other forums!!

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

I'm off to work now. I just do subbing (dental hygiene). Just half a day today. I'm NOT a morning person. But I don't have to do it too often and I have a half hour drive to work, so I have enough time to get woken up. LOL.

Have a good one!

Kylee

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

I'm up, have to leave by 7 so gotta scoot - have a good day all - save - there was a discussions on seed mat last year, try a search. I'll look tonight if u can't find it. later....... :)

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Good morning,

Grey day again here, but as is befitting Remembrance Day.
Most stores are closed until after the 11 am ceremonies. Other activities are mostly open. Aquafit will go on and the Food Cupboard is open. All government is closed including mail service. However, schools are open. (Years ago, they used to close, but by having them open, they all have Remembrance Day ceremonies and it's one way of making the younger people aware of the sacrifices during war).

However, once the stores open at noon, in a government city like Ottawa, this becomes one of the biggest pre-Christmas shoping days while all the kids are still in school.

Re admittance to the US Embassy, I'm glad I visited ahead as I can report accurately to my group about the procedures. We will be able to bring one or more vehicles into their parking garage to unload the bells and equipment, but will then have to take the vehicle elsewhere for parking. They have equipment to x-ray them in the garage. And a dolly to wheel them to the elevators. Also, we have decided to take only three octaves of bells and no chimes..

And I won't be able to take my bell adjusting tools. Although, they have agreed to have a flat-bladed screw-driver on hand in case I need it. Am in the process of starting to check them over carefullly. Had a broken spring last week and found two more with cracks last night. If I get them all replaced before the event, we shouldn't have problems.

And I have to provide a list of everyone and their nationality a week ahead. also a description of the cars we want to bring in and a list of what we will have. But no restictions on having a couple of roadies with us as long as I give them the names ahead of time. It's do-able.
We fully understand the need for all the security.

The aquafit group has brunch on the second Friday of every month. Have never gone along as I'm at work, but I booked off for this morning and will join them. (They have to talk about next month as three of them are in my handbell group).

Casey, good luck with the ID. I'm sure it will show up.

TTYL

Good morning everyone. The body's up ... but my brain isn't. LOL
Darius is suppose to come by today on her way home. She had a couple of plants that got damaged on her trip down and she asked if I'd like a couple of cuttings. Since I already have a Night Blooming Cereaus, I jumped at the chance for a piece of hers. She's also giving me a piece of her Christmas cactus. I've never had one before, but am very excited about that too. My Grandmama use to have one.
sarv, glad you got your printer working again. Maybe it had a bug? :) I too have cracked heels, but mine aren't caused from the winter. I go bare footed all the time, so mine feel like sand paper pretty much all the time.
Kylee, hope you have a good day at work today.
Did I just see Kooger blow in?:)

I'm going over to check my emails now. Y'all have a good one!
... Elaine

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Viola, I see you have Remembrance Day on the same day we have Veteran's Day. Oddly, we also have Memorial Day on May 31. I guess one if for live veterans and the other is for those who died in wars. Maybe we should stop being in so many wars???
I'd like a seed-starting kit too. I AM using a heating pad, but it cuts off automatically after 2 hours.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Good Morning every one!
Have beeen up for about an hour thought no one was here then rememered have to click in watch, lol.
Are yo ever busy, Ann, I cannot imagine handling all the equipment you have with all these obstacles confronting you, I do not think I could manage without losing my patience.
Have you found your papers, Casey? I sure hope so!
Be careful driving, kb, if you are half asleep, ;-)
Yes, Sarv, DH is right, it is unsafe, had that experience with my son who read before going to sleep and left book on top of electric blanket, you should have seen the black burns, nothing should be on top of any electrical pads or covers
Elaine, you are so lucky to have a visit with Darius, she is one of my best friends since I joined DG, give her a big hug for me!
Pretty soon I have to go out of doors with Samson and train him with that special collar to recognice the white flags that circumfrance his play yard, over an acre lol. He is a fast lerner, when I took him out of doors earlier he came away from them without the belt, what a memory he has, only from yesterday. It is only 30' brrrr

My dad was born on 11-11-11 and died on 11-11-81. I am always sad on this day as it brings back memories. I just looked at the calendar and saw what today was. Plus my folks are leaving today for Fla!!

BUT the sun is shining and I am going to 'loved ones' lunch at DGS school, so I will be smiling and forget about all the sad things!!

check ya later everyone!!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

It is always sad to remember the ones we loved especially on the day they left us but this is part of life and death and we continue to enjoy life that is how they want us to be, so have a good day!

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Good morning, everyone.

Casey...I'm glad you found that passport, and I've got my fingers crossed that you find the rest of the papers quickly. If you're anything like I am, you're beside yourself and more than a little frantic. (I just *hate* losing anything! Puts me in mood mighty quick.)

Ann...It was very interesting reading about your visit to the Embassy. Hope the choir members get their 'stuff' together and start sounding as good as they're supposed to. I was wondering how you'd fare with your tools and getting them inside...guess I know now.

Nothing on my agenda for today other than to try to get caught up with the laundry.

I'll check in again later,

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well have been up since about 7:15, a friend of ours brought some home made sausage by last night, so fried some of that and had biscuits (frozen kind) for breakfast. Made a couple of calls, and am off to the drug store to get DM's medicine. My sleeping pattern sure has settled down. Was up once during the night to let Mr. B out, and to bathroom, and went back to sleep right away. DGD is coming this afternoon, so will be busy for the weekend. She has requested sauer kraut and hot dogs for supper, I don't like it, but will fix it for her. Her mother doesn't cook much, so when she requests something I try to comply. She has asked me several times to write down all my recipes, she told me recently, mamaw, if you die, I won't know how to cook!! It is the stuff I don't have recipes for that she wants. Like how to make milk gravy, how to mash potatoes, how to make meat loaf. Those things that we have done so long, that we could do it in our sleep. Maybe this winter, when things are slow, I will write them down for her. We had frost last night, but is supposed to warm up during the day. I gotta get b--t moving, so will check in later.

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh I missed a whole day too! I even went right to this thread to post and will go back to see how the day went for all in a bit!
If I missed anything that needs attention I will post again here.
Casey is the only one LOL who may appreciatte how I missed a whole day here. I tore apart book shelves cleaned out closets scrubbed out every nook and cranny of the house!!!
My son was at a friend's house for most of the day so I took that as a sign to feed into my OCD to the extremes!!!!!!
Now everything in order and really clean I have to catch up on all the threads and goings on with this wonderful group in coffee!!!

Good day everyone I will be around!!!
Anne

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Good morning! It's FRIDAY!! Yahoo!! Sorry, I get a little excited.

Looks kinda gray this morning, but its supposed to be partly sunny today. Much cooler that it has been. Nice quiet day at the office today. Fridays are always "catch up" days. Not as many people here and the phones are not as busy.

Carat - I hope you have found your papers. It can be very frustrating.

For those of you with cracked heel problems, my company was sampling a product called Flexitol, Diabetic Foot Balm. I don't mean to sound like a commercial, but we had gotten some really good feedback about it.

l01 - Hope you have another good visit with Darius. Good luck with the Christmas Cactus. My mothers is getting full of bloom. I don't have many houseplants. My 1 year old cat destroyed most that I had within her reach. Now I only have a few hanging plants in the house.

Gotta work a little now, will check back later

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

A friend of mine uses old waterbed heaters as seed warmers. He has good luck with them.

Sarv - a year after my sons was killed in a car accident a lot of his friends wanted to come visit so I told my grand-nieces (who were living with us) the friends would be coming "because it's been a year since Nick died." The six year old looked at me with a big smile and said, "I get it...we're celebrating the day Nicky went to heaven!" Now I try to think of it that way and it sure makes it easier.

Have a wonderful day, everyone! ~Jody

What a womderful quote, but dream on, it will never stop

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

D.Cat...at least she's interested in *learning*. Most of the Gkids in my family could care less!

Anne (mags) you OCD people make me TIRED!!! LOL

SuzieQ...I'll have to look for that foot cream. There are times when I hobble around like I played in those fire-walker coals. Not pretty. (oo ouch...ouch...ooo)

Jody...I like that kid's style! My kinda girl. (I remember saying something similar to my MIL when DH's aged aunt died at Christmas time. My first reaction (to myself) was "She's going to be missed"...but the second (I said it) was "How wonderful that she was taken at Christmas! I'll bet she's happy now.") Ooops! Wrong answer! I learned a BIG lesson that day. *Never* sound like death is "good news"...even when you know the person who passed would agree with you. ;-)

~julie~

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

I think you were right, Julie. We really need to start seeing death in a good way. If you believe in heaven, why wouldn't you want someone to finally get there. (Of course when its a young person or sudden death its really hard to think that way, but we need to find comfort.)

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

jasmeer, your grand niece is worth quoting. from a child's lips, comes wisdom.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Jody...for me it's *only* way I *can* deal with death. I have to force myself to see the positives (the good times or lessons learned) when I lose someone...Otherwise, I probably would have joined them by my own hand years ago. (I don't deal well with lose. :-))

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Good Morning Everyone!

Well, not a lot going on here. Got the report back from the Dr. The MRI showed significant changes and the pain in my hiney is due to the herniated discs in my back irritating the sciatic and the glut nerves. They are making me an apt to start being seen by the Pain Clinic. This does not sound like a whole lot of fun, but it sure beats back surgery. Maybe this will help the SSDI claim tho.

Who's the margin wrecker? Oh it's Jody, lol. Great quote tho, I can't wait for it to be true!

I can't remember all the things I wanted to say today. *shaking head* Ummm.....I use old water bed heaters for heat mats too. Umm.....Casey, when was the last time you remember having to use any of the information in the file? Ummmm.....Elaine, now can you come up here and get my printer to talk to my computer? They are having a tiff. Dcat, I need a nap after just reading your posts! Ann, I love the hand bell choir that plays here, it is such a lovely sound. When I had to go to the American Embassy in Frankfort, Germany to get Nathan's passport after he was 6 weeks old it was a nightmare. This was in January 1991 right after the air war part of the Gulf War started. They even checked the diaper on his butt, and in between the layers of baby wipes. There wasn't a single thing that didn't get X-rayed or eyeballed in the diaper bag or my purse and I wasn't allowed to bring in his stroller. Al-tho, the breast pump did take some explaining! I thought I was going to have to give a demonstration!! ROFLMBO

We got a letter from the City in the mail yesterday. We have a 1951 Plymouth Concord parked on one side of our driveway. It is properly registered and has plates and current stickers. But because it hasn't been moved in the last 60 days, we are in violation of City Code. We either have to move it every 48 hours or put it in the garage. So we will be spending the next 3 days cleaning out the garage, GRRRRRRR. Some idiot complained about it. Why do people feel the need to go around and try to make other people's lives miserable? Because they are so perfect? Or they just can't stand to see someone else try to be happy? My dh and Nathan spend many hours out there working on that car, and now they will have to be in a small cramped garage with no decent lighting. there are no spare parts or junk laying around, just the car parked in the driveway. What is sooo wrong with that? If I still had my van, it wouldn't be getting driven every 2 days and that would be a violation too. BTW, the fine for not complying within 30 days is $250 PER DAY minimum plus court costs. Or we can file an appeal with a fee of $200. I really hate living in town because of crap like this and I'm starting to be sorry we bought this house.

My kids are still off school, and they are bickering in the kitchen already. Time to play referee.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Gayle...that doesn't sound really pleasant. But it's far better to *know* what's causing the pain...and that it can be treated in some way. (Thanks for letting us know).

And I don't understand why some places have those 'eyesore' regulations and others can BE the eyesore that *no-one* does a blasted thing about. We have one of the later in our neighborhood. It'd be nice if they only had *one* car parked but not moved. These neanderthals have a whole FLEET of derelict vehicles of ALL descriptions...AND a dumpster that is never emptied until someone calls the county to stop them from overflowing it. (Geez! I got p.o.'d didn't I? LOL) Have fun with the kids.

Maria...I have you set up on my "Friends" list now...whenever you're ready, let me know.

~julie~

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

MG - What did I do to the margin? Everything looks fine here.

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Gayle - I sympathize with your car situation. A couple of DH's friends have has similar things happen. Wouldn't it be nice if some people would just mind their own business and get a life. We are lucky to have a barn to put our old cars and tractors into. Our community has alot of newcomers who think they can just move in and change everything.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Back from lunch with the DGS - it was fun. He kept looking around me at something and finally I asked him what was the matter. He told me he was watching is friends because he didn't want to miss recess and playing football. We ate FAST and he left!! I was there 20 min!!

Don't ya just hate neighbors that can't mind their own business!!. We have an old clunker car that my DH uses for storage of all things. It is way out beyond the barn, covered with weeds. The farmer who works up the field stopped and told me it was on their land, I told him to plow the darn thing under, I didn't care! DH was fishing in Canada at the time and something always happens when he is gone! It is still there...do they ever just rust away?

Somewhere I do have a waterbed heater, but DH was raising a stink about using that too. I think he just likes to raise stinks!! I need to go out and blow the leaves onto the lawn so he can mow them up - sun is shining, but it is COLD out!

I must remember that the people who have died are in a better place. I am just selfish and want them here!! I made the comment to my mom about my dad being in heaven and she would see him again - she snapped back - oh good I'll have three husbands in heaven to deal with!! LOL she is a stitch!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Wow, I hate this margin thing, somebody please put it back like it was. My screen isn't big enough to read the thread and see who posted it, so I have to keep horizontally scrolling. Well, I knew my week was going so well that something surely would happen to make me change my mind. Had to run to the drug store this morning to pick up DM medicine, made the mistake of asking DMIL if she needed anything while I was out. I just bought groceries on Wednesday, and do you know, she gave me another long list, and asked if I minded going to the Dollar store too. I just did both of those things on Wednesday. So what should have been a 45 minute trip turned into 2 1/2 hours. I call that wasted time. When I got home DH was leaving to go pick up DGD, and says where have you been, and not so nicely I replied fooling around with our idiot mothers. This will stop, I hate to shop, much less do it 2 times a week. Thinking, DH has just earned himself a honey do job!! Sorry folks, just venting.

Okay Carat, have you found those papers? Whose kids are fighting? send them outside, and tell them it better be on fire, or bleeding before they call you!!

Gayle, Just heard on a talk show on radio about a couple living in a subdivision, who are keeping 2 goats for their 12 year old son who is ADHD, says the goats soothe him. Would much rather have a parked, idle car than deal with 2 goats next door. Who are these idiots who make those regulations? I didn't realize you could walk around, even hold a job with a brain. Well the appointment with the Pain Center may be a step forward. Sorry that you are still in pain, but maybe this is the light at the end of the tunnel for SS Disability. My luck would be it's only a freight train coming!

Whose computer and printer are having a tiff? Drated contraptions, ain't they great.

Maria, how did Samson do with the fence today?

The little girl's wisdom about death really floors me. I think all kids take their clues from us, so I always try to put a positive spin on anything when they are involved.

Magaboo, bring your OCD down and help me. It's clean on the surface, but don't anybody dare put your hands behind a piece of furniture, or look underneath it, or behind doors!! It's right scary.

101 what are you doing today? You have been real quiet.

I bought a waterbed heater at a garage sale this summer and plan to use it to start my seeds. Anybody have any negative comments aboutit? Last year, I used the top of my refrigerator, would set two trays up there until they sprouted, then would place two more up there. It did okay, but I ended up with a staggered crop. Would like everything to germinate at the same time if possible.

Well, I am off to the kitchen to start prepping for supper, sauerkraut and weiners don't demand much in the way of prep, but have to find something to accompany them. What do you suggest? Will check in later to see what you all do with the rest of the afternoon.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Sarv, I laughed about your mom's comment about 3 husbands to deal with. Don't you know that the bible says there will be no marrying in heaven. So will they all be good friends? Just a thought,.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Quoting:
oh good I'll have three husbands in heaven to deal with!! LOL she is a stitch!

ROTFLMBO!!! You're right! She *is* a stitch!

Jody...I think that line of aster-icks is what is throwing off the margins. I've had it happen before. I think if you'll go edit that post, and leave only a few of them in, it will put everyone's margins back where they belong. I guess the browsers see the 'stars' as a connected entity and they won't wrap the line like regular characters.

~julie~

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

Sarv - It would be a perfect poster to warn people of the dangers of divorce. Picture this: A man standing outside the pearly gates and three women on the other side wagging their fingers and nagging! The caption underneath would say, "Is this any way to spend eternity?" LOL LOL LOL

I fixed my post so there shouldn't be anything wrong with the margins. My page was fine - no margin problems. But don't make me cranky, or I'll put in a whole paragraph of ***! LOL

I'm finally through with everything except supper! Yea!! I didn't clean the whole house yesterday like I said I was going to, as I got sidetracked working in the closets. Ugggg. Darius just blew in and back out. She wanted to get as far up as possible before dark. Gave me the cuttings. Wouldn't let me so much as heat her up a bowl of beef stew.
Y'all crack me up with all your posts. I've read every single one. Yes, like they always say ... out of the mouths of babes. Don't you think we'd all be a lot better off if we could learn to love and forgive like a child?
Well,I have to get in the kitchen and figure out what in the world I'm fixing for supper tonight. We have a meeting at church from 7 to 9:30 and I'm sitting here like I've still nothing to do. I've missed chatting and know I haven't mentioned everything ... but I'm saying hi to all. Hugs ... Elaine

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Hiding inside by the computer, hoping DH won't find me!! I used the hand blower to blow out the leaves that had blanketed everything about a foot deep. I know my arm will be in terrible pain tomorrow!! I am absolutely bushed!! Even got up on the deck and blew the leaves down below - now that about killed me!! He is still out mowing and I snuck inside for a wee drink of pop and a container of pudding.

I'll have to tell my mom that they will all be 'friends' when they reach the pearly gates. She will love that one! I worked with a woman who I absolutely detested!! If she was in a room, I left. You don't mean to tell me that I will be friends with HER do ya???

Stopped by to visit MIL today and she didn't mention a thing about the lay off. In fact she was pretty pleasant. Just told me that I HAD to take her to two doc appts in a week. Someone forgot to teach her manners...

Will Darius be posting tomorrow do ya think? Can't wait to hear about her trials with her sis again.

Who has OCD and wants to clean? Come on over. I'll help a little, but don't want to work too hard. I wish I was more driven to keep things looking spiffy. If we are having company, I spruce things up - maybe that is why I don't even care to have company anymore!! LOL

You won't believe what I did the other day. I stopped by Salvation Army to see if I could find any of the 50 or so bags I dropped off. I just wanted to see what they priced things. NO I didn't buy anything back.....

mg- friend of mine had a disc bulging and pressing on her siatic nerve - she's been in agony for months. Finally thru a pain doc and some kind of shot she feels better - not cured, but better. She has always been such an active person - walking daily- and now all she did was lay on the floor on her stomach. Hope what ever ails ya, gets fixed - pronto!!

MG wanted to come back and tell you I hope your back gets better soon. Also wanted to tell y'all that when me and the baby fly and I go through security ... they won't even let me walk through the security check with her. Her harness sets the alarm off every time. Of course ... as it has metal on it. I have to walk through by myself and then they bring her through. Like she's slipping in contraband. LOL I know I know. I'm just being mean. I'm glad we have security in this country. Sure can't be too careful. It's just funny to me. :)
defoecat, when I have kraut and dogs, I like oven potato wedges. Don't fry them anymore, but we enjoy those.

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

jasmerr- the visual in my head of your poster just cracks me up. Does that mean that I will have to share DH with his first wife? That wouldn't be a pretty thing. Lol Lol.

THAT would DO it!! LOL

Julie,

The underwires only cause problems when the matrons at the prison do the body search on you. Gives them reason to search you further. EWWWWWWWWW

Nothing wrong with my screen here but keep seeing others having margin problems HMMM
