And let me be the first to come in and post and carry over my *sobbing* and *whining* about my dead camera as a result of my amaryllis toppling over on it last night. It means I have to spend about $250 to replace it. :-(

So how is everyone else doing? LOL

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Wait, I thought it made it through the accident except for a dent. What happened now??

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

I thought so, too. Right after it happened, I tried taking a picture and it worked fine. Then today, when I went to use it again, it was just wacky. A couple of buttons don't work. The flash doesn't work, or rather it's stuck on 'no flash.' The zoom doesn't work on the zoom button, but when I push a different button a certain way, it zooms in, but not out. It's definitely screwed. And I know it's not worth getting it fixed, since it's obviously the computer part that's messed up. I can't believe how expensive this stupid amaryllis has turned out to be! Walmart 'bargain.' LOLOLOL.

Ann, sorry about the Cello/Viola error. Must have been a "senior moment". The student chain is pretty spectacular.

Defo, Vietnamese sandwiches have barbecued meat, slices of cucumber, carrot, jalapeno chili and cilantro in a hoagy roll. Very good for lunch or light dinner. Tea is good anytime. Chamomile tea is especially helpful when I have trouble sleeping.

Lost had a couple unexpected turns tonight. Wonder what happened to the underground place when the computer died. Did I miss something or are they saving it for a retrospective 'lost scenes' event ??? Time to hit the hay. Can't be late for Immy's first Obedience lesson in the morning.

Good Morning folks!! Up and ready to roll!! Busy day ahead. Going first to the work out place, then to the pharmacy to get more allergy meds - my allergies are still hanging on - is it just me or are they really nasty this year?? Then on to a friend that has made a quilt and wants my advice on it. I saw it when it was almost done and it would not be my favorite, but everyone has their own tastes = I will be sure and compliment her on it= quilts are too much work for me!!

I01 - My sister and I have always wanted to take a trip down south and visit the old plantations. We try to take a trip each year with eachother and have wonderful memories. One year we did the potters in Ohio - fantastic. I bought a piece at each place we stopped - very interesting. Another year we visited several presidents homes - nice too. We have gone to French Lick (in Indiana) - an old resort they have restored - beautiful. Plus many many other trips. The only trouble now is that my car has well over 100,000 miles on it and it is not dependable and she won't drive her car (long story) Last year we didn't do any trips as my mom had knee replacement surgery and my son got married.. We need to do it again. Maybe you can give us the skinny on which plantations to visit.

kb- ick - camera woes....My son and I both bought a Cannon A60 - mine is fine, but his already bit the dust (under 2 yrs use) He found out there is a problem and Cannon will fix it - now I am just waiting for mine to go. I cannot believe how the price has gone down on these things. I saw several on ebay for $50 bucks just like mine!! I would like one with more pixels next time- this is just a basic one but it has worked fine for me.

Maria, so happy that the trainer worked out with you both. Is your underground fencing in yet? One of our neighbors put one in, however only put it on three sides of their property. The fourth side is towards hundreds of acres of farming land. Of course the dog found this out and just goes out the 'back door' and over to visit us. He is a nice dog, so I dont mind. When I am tired of him, I just call their house and tell them that "ruff' is done visiting. We always laugh at that...

I've been busy with my plant list. Yesterday I manually put everything in alphabetical order (since I couldn't figure out how to do it with just one click) Took me all afternoon, but I am very pleased with it all. Would you believe I have 4 pages on plants....Yikes - think of the $$$

Still have a ton of bulbs to get in, but all my plants are snuggled in for the winter. My grow lights are on and things look good. I still have to pot up all my geranium cuttings. I whack them off and let them sit for several days to form a calous (spx) Have good luck with them! I even had to cut back some licorice plants I took slips of!! I'll have a zillion come spring if they keep growing!

I am sitting with a heating pad on my feet- it is cold in the house this morning and I can hear the furnace running. Better stoke up the woodstove...

See ya after breakfast!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

You ar an early bird, Sarv, me too, but I think the time change is the cuprit! Samson has already been out with me in the rain, Iwas not too keen on that LOL Pf course it has to rain when the fence people asre coming grrr
Finally going to get my flue shot this AN and ned to go to the market on the way home, poor Samson he will have to be locked up in his cage, he hates it, I would too!

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Good morning,

We have a very busy day today. We are having the S Florida Roundup on Saturday and because Wilma has managed to shut down our parks, we'll be meeting at my house.

Jeremy will be helping me do clean up today in the yard and carport and we will be diggin more plants to pot up, both to share and to trade/give.

I only have 2 more jobs to do before we move on the 30th, one for a girlfriend. She has offered to let us sleep in her spare room (which we will be painting) after our furniture is packed up. I think that won't work. Her dog is very jealous of mine, plus I have the greyhound now, and she has 2 cats now. But it was a very nice offer. I think I will hold back the mattress from the sleeper couch for myself or Jeremy, (probly me cause I'm older). It will be pretty simple to roll up and transport in the van when we leave here.

I got my cleaning lady to come yesterday for a couple hours. It was tough for her to fit me in. She just got her power back a couple days ago and her customers are all demanding her. I will have her here one more time after the furniture is packed and we will give the place one last good cleaning, then when I move.......I am on my own. Will have to remember how that vacume cleaner works and find a dust rag. The days of spoiling myself are over for a while.

I think I will run over to chat for a few minutes before getting outside for chores.

Molly

Get out your umbrella Maria!! I quit getting the flu shot. I know they say it isn't possible, but every year when I got one, I spent the next 3-4 days with achy muscles, chills and general rotten feeling. My lungs feel like they are filling up, so I may need to visit the doc and see whats up with that.

Take care!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Just hope this will not happen to me!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning all
I'm in the dumps as I'm going to be by myself today. The baby is gone to get her hair and nails done. *grin* It's always so quiet when it's just me. Guess I'll use this opportunity to get some more housework done. yuck yuck
sarv ... wish we were close as I love to work out, but can't get my DH interested. I try to walk on my tread mill, but that can get *boring*. Have that little tummy pooch thing going on which really needs some attention. Sitting here at the computer doesn't help a bit. :)
As far as the hurricans are concerned ... I'm located far enough inland that I don't have any worries about water. We got some high wind last year of around 45 50 and had some trees down from the neighbors but were extremely fortunate. Have only seen minor tornadoes touch down and hardly any hail, etc. *knocking on wood*
Maria, wish I could keep Samson for you today so he wouldn't have to stay in his crate.
Molly, tell Darius hi and I'll see her on Friday. Have fun at the swap and good luck with the rest of your move. Too bad you can't kidnap your cleaning lady and take her to your new place with you. LOL
balvenie, those sandwiches sound very good. Wish you could Dmail me one for lunch! :)
To everyone else ... morning!
... Elaine

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Good morning, eveyone -

"day off" today. You know what that means. LOL I'll be running around all day. Aquafit in less than an hour. Haircut at 10:30 downtown and then a visit to the American Embassy to see the space and talk about the arrangements for the handbell choir visit (and how we get the bells into the building). They are so security conscious that I can't take cell phone, lipstick or hand cream into the building. And almost nobody but staff gets into it; so my group is REALLY excited about this gig. Then, I have to teach a student who I deferred on Tuesday so that I would have more time to pack away all my cannas and callas, etc. when the weather was pleasant. And finish off with bell practice at 6 pm.

Elaine - your kind words make me blush. I also wonder what your computer speaker makes of these words with asterisks.

defoe, you're right about the donations at this time of year. We have learned to take advantage of the extra generosity so that we, hopefully, stockpile enough food to carry us through February. And we do most of our fund-raising between October and December. We've tried rotating letter drops throughout the year, but those done in the spring generate nowhere near the response of those before Christmas. So our policy is - no more than one direct appeal per year to any donor and we rotate the areas in which we do a door-to-door letter drop. The response would cover the extra printing costs, but co-ordinating the entire area for hand delivery would be difficult. And with a postage stamp at 50 cents plus 4 cents GST, we try to hand deliver what we can. But we DO work our community. We've tried to sell the idea that the Food Cupboard is COMMUNITY owned and operated. Selling ownership in the program works and we've been able to offer better help to our clients than some of the near-by food programs. Of course, that opens up another whole can of worms. But when I look at the number of clients we see who try to get by on less than $100 per person, per month after their rent is paid, I don't see our reducing the help we give as the solution to problem of inequities between programs.

balvenie, no problem with the cello / viola mix-up. Better than calling it a violin (or a v**l*n - as it's referred to on the viola Internet list). LOL

kbaumle - so sorry about the camera. You're probably right that it's not worth repairing, but it might be worth having someone take a look just in case. Half the problem of replacing the camera in learning to use the new one if you don't get exactly the same one.

We had a Canon A80 and liked it a lot. Then last March, DH left it in a rental car in Germany. Of course, it was never found. After doing some Internet research, we replaced it with a Fuji E510. The specs were virtually the same as the Canon A95 (which was the closest we could get to the A80) except for the flip out screen and it was $150 Cdn less expensive. But it took most of the summer to get as comfortable with it as we were with the A80.

sarv - I've had flu shots for years - even before our medical system picked up the tab. I always figured that people who need emergency food are likely not eating well and are susceptible to more bugs than the average. But I think the trick is to get it as early as possible before you have something else in your system. And the longer you wait, the more we get into the season where the bugs circulate freely.

I guess I'd better wish you all a good day and get crackin.

Ann

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Love your posts, Ann, so very interesting!

Sorry You are all alone, I know exactly what that is like, Elaine, that is why have decided to adopt Samson, I just asked him where his tennis ball is, he went to a piece of furniture and sure enough it was under it , smart dog, eh?

Yep, he's a smart boy. I knew he was! That's the way my girl is. I can tell her ... "Go get your ragdoll" (she has an old squeeky toy, and that's what we call it) Off she goes to find it. I'll say ... "Squeak it!" Oh yes ... she'll do it, too. :) I sound just like a Mama, don't I? hahaha
Ann, I sure would love to hear the concert withh those beautiful bells. Last year I went to a Christmas concert called "Christmas on Ivory". There were 5 baby gran pianos on one stage at the same time. Ooooh, take your breath away! :)

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

Good morning! Sunny day here, so I'm going to pot up my springeri and bring it in this year. Usually I just throw it out. It looks so good I hate to do that, so we'll see how good it looks after being inside all winter. LOL.

I love my Pentax Optio and yes, it really DOES fit in an Altoids tin. It takes great pictures and I love how small it is. It's perfect for taking along when I go geocaching. Of all the cameras I've had in the past, my Canon took the best pictures, but the Optio does pretty well, too.

I have to take the dog and three of the cats in for their shots today. That should be fun. All of them in the van together. DH gets his weekly allergy injection today, too.

I had bacterial meningitis in 1999, and ever since then, my doctor says I HAVE to get a flu shot. One year I didn't, and I really was sick all winter. Maybe had nothing to do with not getting the shot, but maybe it did, too. I haven't gotten a flu shot yet this year.

Kylee

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Good Morning everyone. It is considerably cooler here this morning. Yesterday we set a record temperature of 76 degrees. After lunch, I even put on shorts again. Can't do that this morning though. I have puttered around the house, straightening, etc, and am going to DM to do some things for her. Then back home, I am painting rocks today to use as plant markers. A friend called awhile ago and asked what I was doing. I said playing with my rocks, she said that's ok as long as they didn't come from your head|!! LOL

Don't have time to comment one all posts, except to say the Vietnamese sandwiches sound great., and oh no a busted camera. 101 Iaughed when I read you are "home alone" thought of the movie. Hope you don't get into that kind of trouble today.

Well off to get some things done. Be back about noon.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Morning! DH is off to work, there's a bedspread in the washer, and I'm tackling some sewing today...nothing complicated, just hemming a couple pairs of pants that are too long. Not into the current youth fashion of having them drag on the ground.

It's pure joy to be able to go pick flowers to bring in the house at this late in the fall, and it is sad to know that there won't be any more. Last year,DH brought me some cut flowers about once a month throughout the winter Wonder if he'll do it this year...

Didn't watch Lost last night but I DVRd it, so I'll catch up this morning. I hate the repeats too, but I can check on the menu to see if it's new or not. I think they are getting desperate for new twists and turns!

Bal, that Vietnamese sandwich sounds delicious, and just the thing for a light meal. I love Thai food too....oh, wait, I love all food!! My list of unliked foods is very short!! Your girls are getting cuter every day! What little bundles of energy they are. I loved the hide and seek photo. Let us know how your carvings are coming along. And stripping wallpaper...ugh! The best tool I found for that is a steamer, and boy does it work like magic!! I got mine for about $10 but that was ten years back. You need lots of paper or rags on the floor because it does put out a lot of water in the form of steam but the paper just rolls right off the wall in sheets instead of little scraps.

Sarv, if I added up what we have put into our plants and shrubs and trees, I'd probably get sick. Not to mention the ones I've killed under the black walnut! But I wouldn't trade any of them for those plain grass lawns that some people cherish! How boring is that?
So, just don't think about the cost, just picture how they look when they bloom!

I got my flu shot about a month ago. I used to get a reaction like getting a mild case of flu but that hasn't happened for several years. I didn't get one last year because of the shortage, and by the time they had it available it was the middle of January, so I just said forget it. Didn't get the flu ....but I don't spend a lot of time out in crowds in the dead of winter so exposure is limited.

Poor Samson, stuck in his crate! I wouldn't like it either! DD has told, or rather insisted, that Howard be crated while DS and DIL are at work, because being in a new environment is a little freaky for a dog, and he will feel more secure. And not chew up the sofa or chase the cats!! LOL Maria, remember to reinforce what the trainer taught him so that he remembers the commands. They like to pretend to forget, so you have to continue to use them so that he knows you mean business!

I admire quilters. I just don't wanna be one. Way back when my kids ranged from toddler to 6 or 7 year olds, my dear stepmother bought me a quilt frame. She and her sisters all had made quilts over the years, and she wanted me to get started. Uh huh, with a full time job and three kids, I hardly had time to do anything other than keep up with housework. I dragged that thing around from one place to another until she passed away, and then I donated it to someone who wanted to quilt!! I couldn't do it before! I have one quilt that she made that is so old and faded and worn I couldn't display it if I wanted to! It was used for many years, and washed many times, but it was all hand stitched so I can't part with it.

All our supermarkets have bins for food donations, but now I see they are marked for local food charities, and not for hurricane relief. I try to get the two-fers, like peanut butter, or soup, and toss the free one in the bins, or even both if I don't need the item.

I better go rearrange that spread while it's drying, or it will be just one big tangled up ball with a dry outside and wet in the middle.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

No I won't forget to keep training up with him, want him to learn! He does not seem to chew on anything, perhaps former owner taught him that much.
I loved quilting will post a picture later, I miss it for two reasons, psorisis on the palm of my hands and very bad eye sight ;-(

JUst had and SOS notice about some medicine one should stop right away. The ingredient is called PHYLPROPANPLAMINE

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Here is a collage of just a few of quiltings I made, most of them ar with my children theone with two copies I could never finish ;-(

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning. Wow, beautiful quilts, Maria. They are so much work but so pretty and they become heirloom items. Good news on the progress with Sampson's training. Is he better on the leash now too? You hadn't mentioned that specifically nor had you said anything about any more wild rides. I think he will get more comfortable in the crate with the passage of time and realizing that you always come back. Treats might help there too, and have him go into it for a treat, leave the room for 5 minutes, come back and give him another treat when you let him out. And always tell him what a good boy he is.

No flu shots here, I haven't ever had one and can't see starting now. I don't spend much time in crowds, do wash my hands a lot and try to keep my hands off my face. Hubby is much more likely to get something than I am, he works in a public building, shakes a lot of hands, etc, and has so many other things on his mind that he forgets to wash his hands often. I usually don't even catch whatever he gets. One winter though, I got something first and then he caught it from me before I was well. The animals still needed to be fed so I wrapped up and got out there and it took me about 4 times as long to get all the horses fed because I had to keep sitting down. We had horrible weather that winter so it was a double challenge. After a week of dragging around that way when I knew I should be feeling better, I forced myself to take a walk before I came into the house. I was pooped! The next day I did it again and it was a little bit easier, so the day after that I walked farther. All I needed to do was build up my strength again gradually.

Last night was another frosty one, about 20 degrees. The sun is out now so the snowy effect we had earlier is going away. I'll work outside on the sunny side of the house when it gets a bit warmer. Right now I need to go out and feed the horses and see what I can do before I get cold. See you later.

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

Frost last night. Only the third time this fall. My persicaria is drooping, as is the Jack Frost brunnera. Probably other things, but it's too cold to go out and check! LOL!

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

HHHHHHhhhheeeeeeaaaaaaalllllpppppppp! I'm being held captive in the UMW forum!!! LOL (and you *thought* WE were a gabby bunch here! HA!)

I have to say that the "craziness" in this thread couldn't hold a candle to that *really* CRAZY bunch over there. I think it has something to do with the fact that the UMW (Upper Mid-West) gardeners *practice* for their bouts of "cabin fever" so we'll be really good at it come February. Might just be that our brains are still thawing from LAST winter. hehehe

Anyway...Kylee...I'm more than *sorry* for your camera incident. If I broke mine, which I thot I'd done with a recent *stupid* fall down the stairs...I'd be at Best Buy ASAP, trust me. And I wouldn't care WHICH kid's inheritance I had to spend to get it, either! LOL

You should have seen me last winter when I had a HD crash...WITH my pics on board! OMG!!! You'd have thought I'd lost everything! Stock market crash, tornado, hurricane, tsunami, earthqauke! None of that could have been worse. I'm *serious*! In an emergency, the first thing I think of getting out safely is my camera and my photo backup CDs. My DH thought I was going to have to go for therapy. But I bought a disk recovery program and got them ALL back! Whew!

My two self-preservation instincts are "Play solitaire" and "Take Pictures!" Without them...well...does LOONIE BIN describe the "real me?" LOL

Marie...I'm so glad you and Samson are working so well together.

Ann...that Embassy Program (aside from the Bell choir itself) sounds pretty amazing what with all the security you get to experience first hand. I'll probably never try to fly on a plane...I'd *never* make it through the metal detectors...much less a personal search of my purse!

Now...before this gets into a six page edition of "Julie's Day"...I'm just going to say "HI" to everyone...and be on my way.

~julie~

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh, I use my camera almost daily. I got the new one ordered and hopefully, it gets here before they said. This one will still take pictures, but it has no flash and I can't zoom or do macros, and well, it's just acting wacky, so I know it's the computer part that got damaged. The LCD screen is fine, which is amazing, really, since it got dented on the lower left corner of that. I ordered the same thing, well, the new version of it, since mine is no longer available except probably on eBay. I found it for a really good price, plus there's a $50 rebate on it, so it will end up costing me about $190. I just really don't have that to spend right now, with the wedding and Christmas, and spending too much on bulbs this fall. *sigh* But I know, it could be worse. DH will not be happy when I tell him I bought a new one, but he knows how much I use it, too. Oh, and my kids will be lucky to GET an inheritance. LOLOLOL.

I'm even more unhappy when my internet is down. I go NUTS. Can you say addicted?

Well have been really busy since I posted this morning. I painted about 80 rocks that I found at Lake Barkley during the Ky. Roundup. I also painted 5 flower pots with a terra cotta paint, they look so good.I am going to put mosaic on them and give as gifts at Christmas. I also painted 2 huge flower pot saucers, which is a project to make into bird baths.I am just getting the preliminary work done, so that when the weather turns cold, I will have something to work on. And get this GOB's while looking in a closet for some supplies this morning, I discovered my Christmas Cards I purchased on sale after Christmas last year. Have set them out along with my list and will be getting them addressed in the evenings while DH is watching his disgusting sports. Please line up to pat me on the back, if all of you do it at once, I fear that I would need an ambulance. I am so proud of me!!

Then I have been cutting out a Blue Rug Juniper that DH insisted that we plant several years ago. I had previously taken out 6 others, this is the last one, and when I finish, I will have about 5 more feet of planting room in this bed. So let's see, what can I fill that spot with?

Well I was in for a quick break, so need to get back out and finish this chore. Will check in about supper time.

Happy working to all of you.

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

Blue Rug. UGH. I just got the last of ours out earlier this year, too. It was great when we first put it in, but it gets ugly after awhile, even with diligent pruning.

Am giving you lots and lots of pats, Defoe, how do you manage to do sooooo much? I am tired from working with the fence people must have gone round and round agin over a mile just so he will learn to recognise white flags, he can hear a small electric buz as he gets near them and is told no andis pulled away, he learned quickly

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

I tried that, too, and when I hit preview, that didn't work either! I've done it before, so I know it works sometimes!

Aaaaaaacccckkkkk!!

Afternoon all - just got back from the quilt friends house. Man, it was so cold there, I about froze my arse off!! Almost wanted to ask for a hot cuppa tea!! The quilt she did was cute, but wayyyy to much work for me to handle.. She doesn't do flowers, so we each have our addiction. We decided that we would take a tiling class at Home Depot - she thinks nothing of tearing into her house (her DH left her for another teacher in the same school system) can you all say ' rotten' - (dh was a principal in one of the buildings where we all worked..) real messy.....

I must really be trying to get something. I have had a drainage down my throat all day and have been constantly clearing it - very annoying - especially to those around me I bet!

DH has a dentist appt. this afternoon and wants a hair cut before he goes, so I better sign off and get out the clippers - I make him clean up the mess!!

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

Too funny, Sarv...I cut my DH's hair today and left the mess for him!!!

Got my bulbs planted and some yucca that I found growing in the wrong spot relocated. My DS is outside now cutting down all the hosta, iris, daylilies, etc. It's chilly out today, but nice.

I am sad. We had a cool and rainy summer and my Angel Trumpets just would not bloom. Now they are loaded with buds and we are supposed to get a freeze tonight! Aaaaaargh!
These are only first year brugs, as my climate is too cold and my house too small to winter-over any of them. Spousal unit says one has about 50 buds on it. Well, next year I'm going to have a head start because of my little greenhouse.

meezersfive, your post was toooo funny. Now that was the funniest I've heard my computer say! LOL :-D
