Firefox users: How to get a spell checker for DG

Google has recently released the Google toolbar for Firefox, and the feature includes a spellchecker. I tested it out and found it to work very well!!

It actually spellchecks your work as you type in threads, D-mail, etc.

Scroll to the bottom of this page and click on "Get Firefox with Google Toolbar" for an easy download.

(Edited to add: you might want to pass on this. It seems like the toolbar is buggy).

That one comes in handy for me as I frequently make spelling errors....Thanks Dave.

I must have done something wrong. It didn't work.

I followed the link at the bottom of this page, then clicked on get google toolbar for firefox, then clicked on accept and install. It didn't do much of anything, just sat there. It said to close all browsers and restart them. So I did that, still nothing. Then I restarted the computer and still nothing? What did I miss?

JoanJ, I don't know what went wrong for you. Dave I absolutely love that toolbar. Before it I used a dictionary online and they don't have all the words so sometimes I had to guess the spelling but now. WOW. this make posting so much easier.

Joan, do you see an icon in your toolbar that says "Check" (to the left of it is "ABC" with a check-mark beneath)?

If so, type something in a reply box and make a spelling mistake, then click on that icon to see your typo.

Okay, I figured out what was wrong when I tried to install it on my laptop. After I clicked the accept and install button, it appeared to just sit there, however upon closer inspection there was a notice up where the toolbar should have been that said this:

Quoting:
To protect your computer, Firefox prevented this site (toolbar.google.com) from installing on your computer.

There was an edit button to the right of that message where I could go to allow it to load.

All is well now. I thought I'd pass this along in case someone else has the same problem.

Thank you Joan!!

I have the google toolbar installed with IE and it doesn't work on here. :-(((

I have tried to intstall Firefox several times, but it just won't work with my older computer running on Win 98. But look out next spring when the tax refund comes in.....I want a laptop!

That's odd. I use Firefox on my little Win98 box (which I load up once a year) and it works fine...

Dave, is there supposed to be a link to the Google Toolbar download page at the bottom of this page? I see "We recommend Firefox and the Google Toolbar: "

"Firefox" is a clickable link which just takes me to their webpage. I have the latest version so I am good with that, but after the colon there is no link the the google toolbar. I found it myself, but was just wondering about the link being below.

It's a button. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like on my computer.

That's odd. It's not showing up for me. I am running Windows 2000 and Firefox 1.0.7.

shrug!

Wait! You stumped Dave? Has that ever happened before?

It happens all the time, when a Windows computer is involved. I don't know a lot about Windows.

I can't wait untill I can say that. Any recommendations on a nice laptop?

If anyone is having problems getting pages to open and are getting messages like "Page Cannot Be Found" in IE, or "Connection to Davesgarden.com refused" in Firefox, it may be because of the google toolbar.

I was having lots of trouble, and I finally thought maybe it was the toolbar because it was after installing it that I started having so much trouble. I uninstalled it, and so far haven't gotten those error messages again.

It may be that it was conflicting with something else on my computer, and it may very well work for you. But if you are having those same problems, try uninstalling the toolbar. You can always reinstall it if it doesn't fix the problem you are trying to correct.

I use FireFox and the Google toolbar and have never gotton Connection refused.

Of course I am running Linux. I don't like problems and have very few in Linux.

It may be that it's conflicting with something else on my computer. I just thought I'd mention it in case someone else was having the same problems I was and couldn't figure out why.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Opps. Maybe it's not the google toolbar after all. I'm having trouble again. :(

The Google toolbar seems to be working w/ internet explorer.

Thank you Dave. The spell checker is so nice.
