Thanks fancy and linda......DH looks at it like Christmas and he took the day off this year. He's got a sound system, lights and fog on remote so it's very, very creepy out there! :S

The 2nd part of our yearly obsession is to hit the hallowe'en 70% off sales at 8:00 am on Nov. 1st. ;)

The house has been shingled, etc. now so it doesn't look quite as decrepit as past years (kids truly eyed it as the neighbourhood haunted house ;).......hopefully we'll get the porch painted early next spring.

Wow, super decorating job. Kids sure stay kids for a long time when it comes to collecting candy. Some of them look like they have their drivers licences already. Better to keep them happy, maybe they won't egg your house. Do you have gate night there?

LOL.......yep we go by that philosophy AND our house survives the night very well. The pumpkins are a temptation to smash but we pull them in before the haunting hour.

I never seem to catch the little ones on camera (they usually keep us busy since they come in groups just after sunset).

Most popular handout was a glowing rock (made sure they (and their parents) knew it was not edible)......we told them as long as it glowed they were safe! :)

Bootiful pics! Are those white pumpkins??? Great carvings too. My feet are still sore from being dragged around by Freddie Kruger and that little Screem character.

LOLOL .........saw a *few* of those this year. Erynne I must admit I miss taking mine around......BUT not the cold! ;S

They are the white *ghost* pumpkins. I've drooled over pics of them for years and finally spied them, the ripe green ones (new to me) and the flat 3 toned orange ones.

For you Brenda I caught a little one. Surprisingly the majority of them aren't nervous......it's the older ones (8 - 14) that have the imagination and tend to get spooked.

We also had some older visitors.....a local fellow and his girlfriend from Taiwan (a lovely couple :). We had already started to haul stuff in but brought it back out so they could take pics. She's posting hers on her Taiwanese website.

And amid the howling and staring from ghastly eyes, a little bit of real life romance...... Ü

Aawww, that's so sweet. Thanks for the little lamb. So cute, reminds of the days when.........ah yes. You know we don't get any kids here, so I appreciate the pictures.

Had to say, in the end, we had a number of peeps about the age of the couple above come by. They were dressed up however and it sure felt strange to be handing out candy to young lads in their twenties, WAY taller than me, and with a good growth of whiskers! :S They prolly attend the local college. All were very nice tho and appreciative of what DH had done out there. :)

Thanks Ann x 2;) We do.....Hallowe'en, unlike Christmas, tends to bring people to your door that you normally just smile and say "Hi" too. Some, that came 10 years ago, are now bringing their children.

Thanks Donna.:) DH wired bark, that's falling of our old dying maple (that's the one we've been taking down by degrees), to a wire cage. He also put a remote controlled fog machine inside it.

I love those white pumpkins Pam and I will be keeping my eyes open for them next year. When you carved them, did they have seeds inside or do you think these are types that wouldn't come true from seed?
I have a book all about everything you can do with pumpkins called The Perfect Pumpkin; really interesting!

I'll definitely be thinking beyond the traditional pumpkin for next autumn.

Thanks Joan and Erynne. :) Grandparents started us on this tradition and we've certainly enjoyed continuing it. We used to carve *lots* of pumpkins that DMIL grew on the farm but took it a little easier this year.

I can't find the name of the flatter 3 toned orange one or the other blue/green one. One blue/green has a shiny skin and the other is flat. All were grown at a farm near Lumsden, Saskatchewan.


I should really get them ID'd and entered into the PlantFiles. I couldn't bring myself to carve one of the whites or the other unusual coloured ones. Will wait til a soft spot forms and then save the seeds (and hope they were grown with only their kind and will come true ;)

Sorry Pam, I don't "do" pumpkins, let alone know their names. I used to grow the biggest I could when I had little kids at home, but that's been awhile. The white ones are really attractive though. I wonder if we can grow them. But I wouldn't give them any space that I could grow a lily.

Kinda figured that your prize liliums would get the top digs echoes .... I just thought you might catch me out on the names. ;)

Nah nah, I'm not that bad. I don't know, or feel I have`to know all things by botanical names. Mostly just perennials and those`I just learned by gradual absorption. I'm certainly not the plant name police.

Time to revive this thread, seems like yesteday. So Pam, how's your halloween going?

LOLOL ;) A little chilly this year. :( First snowfall yesterday and the little ones are really bundled. Camera keeps fogging up too.



Didn't do the work we normally would if the weather was nicer. Here's one of our Greeters this year.....the skeleton spider also rides around on a remote control car.

Didn't catch pictures of the little ones for you echoes :(.......we just had so many plans for this year but lost heart when we saw the snow coming down.

The 2nd and 3rd floor has strob lights flashing and the kids are pretty impressed with it. Unfortunately it's pretty hard to catch flashing. Since we couldn't do what we wanted to most of the decorations are a repeat of last years.
