GOB-spinoff-Greenhouse units

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

First let me explain to those of you who don't know what 'GOB' is. LOL
Well...it's what the regulars in the 'Coffee and...' threads have come to call ourselves. It stand for "Grand (or glorious) OLD Broads (or Boys, as the case may be). Sometimes we need to 'spin off' topics that might take up too much room in our gatherings. SOOOoooo this is the first 'spin-off'. I hope it will prove to be a good idea...posting pics and other topics that might get lost in the daily chatter. :-)

Ok...some of you are interested in hearing about my GH units.

I was fortunate enough to find these little beauties on a sale of the century (at least as far as *I* was concerned). Normally they cost about $75.00 +/- but I found them in one of those discount surplus kinds of catalogs...and *DH* suggested I could use one. HA! I bought THREE!! LOL

DH wasn't sure I'd actually *use* ALL of them...but he built a deck/platform to get them up off the ground so I could work in them more easily.

This is what they look like...3 units 4' W X 8' L The platform is attached to our carport/storage area so that I can work with them when it rains or is too hot and sunny to work outside.

This is the view from inside the carport (I think it was rainy the day I took the pic)

...and this is only HALF of the Winter Sown seed containers that I moved into the GH units after they'd sat outside in the garden since January. (It was easier for me to keep them watered on a daily basis when I didn't have to take the covers off the milk cartons. hehehe)

I bought mine from the Sportsman's Guide catalog...since we're 'members' our price was just around $25.00 each. I did a google search and found them here http://www.growersupply.com/starterhouse.html
For $80.00 each. I might have paid that price if I was only buying one...but MAN did I get a BARGIN!!

Mg is wondering if she could swipe M5's black outfit and come snitch them. (and the plants in them too!)

Julie, being off the ground, how will they do in the dead of winter? Or, will you use them then?

Cool looking, though!

What if it gets windy?? Do you have them anchored down???

Hi Gayle, Darius, and Sarv...

MG better be *really* sneaky when she gets here...julie really likes her GH's. LOL

Darius, I took them down a couple of days ago. It gets far too cold in this area to use an unheated green house.

Sarv...the units were quite securely tied down to the platform (which is actually decking) and they weathered several strong storm this spring.

I was a little surprised at well they stood up to the sun this summer. Only damage was a little fading of the trim. When spring comes again, they'll get put up for hardening off my IBLF seedlings and the purchased transplants I'll undoubtedly buy.

Believe me they were mightily disappointed when I folded it up and took it away. Kept coming back into the room to look for it.

Gee....my DGD *didn't* like mine, nearly as much your 'kids' did. LOL

Seriously, how expensive were they? And how highly would you recommend to broke friend? I can start seeds in the basement under lights, and then I can move stuff upstairs to the dining room in front of the patio door on a baker's rack. My biggest problem is the cats consider all this their personal salad bar.

Hmmm......

I got it on sale too, same place, my biggest problem starting anything inside is using the sunny locations which the cats think i are their territory and they proceed to sleep on the baby seedllings, as well as push them out of their way. I definitely needed a greenhouse. I'll probably put it on the deck on a plywood platform, for southwest exposure in spring.

Gayle, I would HIGHLY recommend these units to my 'broke' friends because I was "badly bent" at the time I found them. ;-)

I put a link in my 4th post above to one of the places I found them available. But I'll definitely keep an eye out and you all know if I see them again at Sportsman's Guide. (If I hadn't said anything to DH when they came on sale during the summer...I'd have had at least 3 more right now. Not that I'd know what to DO with them. LOL I'm just greedy when it comes to getting a darn good deal!)
