Uploading a photo

Plaquemine, LA(Zone 8b)

It is taking me a very LONG time to preview my post when a photo is attached. Am I doing something wrong, or is it just that the photo is too large.
Thanks for any ideas.

Mary

In terms of file size, what size in the photo?

Also, what kind of internet connection are you using?

Hi Dave,

It is large and it is in Photo shop, I just saw a post about this same problem on another list. I believe it is my fault and I just need to save it in a different format and program. I use regular dial up connection.
Thanks so much for the response.

Mary

Try saving it as jpeg and fiddle with the quality settings until you get it down to 150KB or less. Also, make the size around 800 pixels wide.

Hi Dave,
Thanks, I finally got it a LOT smaller and posted it. Now I hope I didn't get it too small.

Mary

I would say that it is way too small.

Instead of actually changing the dimensions of the image, how about changing the image quality? Do you know how to do that?

I think I do, change the numbers of pixels ???
I did get it way to small, I'll try again.

Thanks again.

Mary, you're welcome to use the test forum to experiment with reduced images: http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/test/

Is there any chance animated gif can be allowed as I wanted to add Cornus kousa Satomi with 3 images in one but it wouldn't allow it. thnx

No, animated pictures are certainly not going to be allowed on the site. They are several reasons for this, the first of which is that they are annoying. :)

Growin, you could separate the images out from the animated GIF and save them as a panorama. If you need help, LMK.

Sorry Dave, didn't mean to get you upset. Just thought 3 pictures in 1 is easier than 3 seperate uploads. I've been doing combined/panorama pics for plantfiles & ID. They get a little squished trying to keep the file size down. Cheers.

Chuckle. I think Dave secretly likes all those little animated gifs of dancing squirrels and fluttering butterflies ;o)

growin, I wouldn't worry about bandwidth for PF entries - just keep each photo at 800 x 600 pixels or less, and upload each one separately.

In my photo, the little melon-like balls are buds to the dark purple flower. The petals, sepals and sex organs are in multiples of three but the leaf does not look like a monocot leaf. Thanks for any help you can give in identifying this. I am located in New Jersey and the photo was taken on May 6, 2008

Hi Judy, I'd post your picture in the Plant Identification forum instead. It's a better place to get unknown plants ID'd, plus this thread is really old so probably not too many people are paying attention to it. Here's a link to the ID forum: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/plantid/all/
