what does the word "View" mean?

when i'm looking at old threads, i see this to the far right, next to replies. it almost always says 0, but i can't figure out what it does or means. thanks, debi

Up until a few months ago, we had a "counter" for each thread, so you could see the number of times it had been viewed. (Keep in mind that if the counter showed "100 views" that might mean 100 different people had viewed it once each, or it could mean that 20 people each viewed it 5 times, or that one person viewed it over and over and over....)

Anyway, when we had some server performance issues (prior to the new servers being installed in May), Dave suspended the counter because it was something that we could live without and suspending it would help our servers handle the traffic better.

After he suspended it, there were several people who said they really preferred to do away with the view counter altogether, so it wasn't reintroduced when the new servers went in.
