just thought i would pass this info along. most of us buy plants from the big guys from time to time as opposed to buying from nurseries. when you find that "gotta buy it cause it's so cheap" plant, just be sure to check it over carefully, all leaves (both sides) and flowers. i bought an oleander from HD a couple of years ago and the plant seemed healthy, but i didn't give it a good going over until i brought it home.
from that one plant, i introduced white peach scale to my entire garden and exposed about 500 different kinds of plants to this insidious little scale. as a result i ended up losing about 50 or so plants and it was still popping up on others when we sold and moved.
i had a county extension man come out to id the scale. it is almost unstoppable. i recently looked at plants at the local Lowes here and saw this same scale on oleander. i pointed this out to the garden manager, but i doubt seriously that anything was done about it.
just a word to be extra careful when purchasing any plant from anywhere, nurseries included.

a word of warning when buying new plants
Debi - Good advice, it's easy to ignore those red flags when you find what you've been looking for at a great price! :-)
WOW!! I have never thought of that.. When you look at a plant and it looks healthy ... Well I usually buy it, impulse or not. Thanks!
lol nicole-me too- it's awfully hard to resist. but if you see bugs, scale, etc. pass it up!!!
