Pinning and Pruning

Prescott, AZ

Oh great, I am seriously craving pie... Well I would love to practice on my rooting, so actually maybe I will send you some in the spring. That will give me time to knit some scarfs and matching gloves!!! Which way do you hold the needle? This cutting round will have to come from Carol to SandyC. I feel for you all not being able to get Hoya's, I've been trying to get one stinking Morning Glory seed and they wont even ship them into AZ. I don't know about this crazy laws. Just let us enjoy are plants..... and pie....

All of my boxes go thru Xray...I mark them "wax porcelain lei" so when they see the circular form, leaves etc....well...I am only telling a half truth if you consider hoyas are known as wax porcelain plants.

Newspaper is a marvelous insullator...so wrapping the cuttings in many layers of newspaper will really help to insullate them. Also, don't moisten the cuttings before putting them in the box.

When the cuttings are received...a good trick is to soak them in tepid water for 12+ hours...they will rehydrate. A drop or two of SuperThrive in the water helps too.

This is cool...and I want to thank Patricia for the idea. She started it with 2 boxes and I thought about it and found it a good way to pass on my prunings.... Thanks Patricia!!!

This is such good information!
Why is it that bureaucracy seems to always mess with the little innocents, while turning a blind eye to the Big Cheeze who are doing really bad things?
Also, Carol, thanks for the soaking tip - I'm gonna try that on the next round of cuttings!

Tomorrow (Tuesday) the boxes are off. I had so many more to chop, but little room in the boxes.... I hope they are new for you.

The boxes weigh the same...I put cuttings in them all at the same time, going down the row of open boxes (having fallen on my back in the mud and scraping all the skin off my knee in the process...and not wanting to linger too long on my feet). Sometimes all the boxes got the same, sometimes some got x when others got y...lengths of cuttings different...I tried to be fair. Hope no one gets their feelings hurt. I will put labels on the boxes randomly.

Hey, by the way, check out the labels on your box!!!!

AND, contents written on the inside flap....you get to figger out who's who!!! he he he

Aloha,

Yippee... Mine are here. Thanks Carol :) Love my new heuschkeliana... My new goal, one of these babies for every room in my house. Every night my dinning room smells like sweet frosting.. I think I've gained weight just smelling this little beauty.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

I had to look up the picture on Christina's site. Wow what a different looking flower. Another one to drool over...lol.

My bella that I got cuttings in the summer has alittle flower forming. I'm not sure how much I can smell when it does open but I can just picture the flower getting stuck up my nose and having to go to the hospital. Trying explaining that to the doctors....lol.

Donna, don't fear-- the little bella has a fantastic scent. You won't have to sniff very hard to smell her! LOL That scent is addicting though......

Looking forward to doing some rooting. Thank you for sharing your cuttings, Carol, and adding to the addictions!!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Can't wait! This will be my first bloom on my own to smell.

You'd think he'd be taking notes on what makes you so happy and then find out Carols website or email, so that when your birthday & Christmas, etc roll around.....well...you know.
Maybe we should make this information readily available to them so they can surprise us. We could post GIANT hoya want lists on the fridge with URLs on where to get them.

I am out of town, right now on business, but warned our "house sitter" that if a box from Hawaii arrived she should call me immediately. She opened the box as we spoke and all I heard was OHHHHH and AHHHHH, so I guess I will be sharing some of the cuttings with a newly addicted "hoya addict" when I get home! She placed the cuttings in water until I arrive home tomorrow so I can do some OHHHHHing and AHHHHing of my own.
Thanks so much CAROL, you are a wonderful pimp and even a GREAT PERSON!!!!!!

I am really happy they all have good homes!!! Nothing makes me sadder than to have to compost perfectly good cuttings...but I simply don't have the room or the time to go around to all of the trees and try to start them up!!! We may have more rounds of this later.

Aloha
