There is stuff named that without an h also. If it isn't another brug, I don't understand why you can't use it, but I don't understand this stuff anyways.

Well, that makes two of us, Rachel. LOL
Where is a picture of this one?
Ada, could it be possibly put on "standby" until someone comes along or you find out for sure about the naming rules?
Laurrie, it sounds good to me if everyone else is in agreement. Monika could be a big help and she's already in bed.
Ada, it might help you in the end, get ahold of Monika or someone and then "resume" it when you know where some of these names stand?
Has anyone named a brug after Monika?
Yes, I named a double pink seedling of hers...."Monika". If you guys want to get the real low down, ask Terry who works for Dave. She knows this naming stuff.
That's a good idea, Shirley.
I sent Terry a D-mail. Hopefully she can help us.
Ada, you can pick a name you like as long as it is not already a registered BRUG name or one that would cause confusion. There are other rules but they are extremes and your choices do not seem to me to cross those lines. Well, maybe Fancy does, though probably not. Rose shouldn't be a last part of a name either because of the confusion it may cause with the genus Rosa.
It does not matter if a rose or a petunia has the same name. There are not that many names to go around if all had to be different. And besides, the beginning of the name will start with BRUGMANSIA. So you need to just worry about names from the same genus.
So just check the Brugmansia registy to see if someone has used the name you want or has one that is very similar. You do not have to worry about any other registry!
I vote 'Carolina Rose' but because rose is the common name of a plant genus in of itself, I think that is taboo if rose is the last word in the name. Rose Carolina would be ok. So maybe Carolina Charm is your best bet. Go check the Brugmansia registries to see if this is a taken brugmansia name. Or check whatever name you pick. If not listed go for it.
Edited to say but what do I know. LOL

I think it looks like a Rapsody. They are all lovely names but this is my pick.
Whoops! Think I missed the dead line.
I know that I'm too late for this, had to go and do the grandma thing. If you would like to change it to Carolina Charm, that's OK with me. Rose Carolina just doesn't have the ring Carolina Rose has. I thought it would be nice since Ada doesn't seem to want her name on it.
She, the brug, is like a true southern lady, gentle and pristine, but when provoked, she will rise to the occasion, Katrina. LOL!
Anyway, I still want a cutting of her, she is stunning!! But don't we all!

I went and did a little research on this. They are quite a few brugs with rose in there names. So, if like Kell said, that they can't cause confusion between names. I'm not the only one in the wrong.
I'm so sorry to have "opened a can of worms." Please change it to Carolina Charm. I know how hard it is to develope a beauty like this and just wanted Ada to have something to connect her to it. Since she didn't want her name, the next best thing, her state.
There is also one listed on ebay as Velvet Rose.

ISHS brug registry no longer requires that names be sanctioned thru them. Sanctioned names are names that do not fit the proper naming guidelines criteria. In the past names like Georgia Peach , Ecuador Rose , blah blah would not be acceptable because peach is a fruit and rose is a genus of plant. The guidelines are not that strict anymore. After all! Fruits and flowers can be names for colors too! Contact your ISHS ICRA Registrar for more help.
I am a native of NC. My roots! :) Carolina Rose is a beautiful name and it is the one I would vote for.
(b) Make sure that your name cannot be confused either in spelling or pronunciation with an existing one. (ICNCP Art. 19.15)
i found this on a web site on how to name new plants
http://www.ishs.org/sci/icraname.htm
these people put out a book about this stuff also. scroll down the page alittle bit to see the rules. then the top of the page in blue is a link to their book
hope it helps
I agree with those who like
Carolina Rose
I also am in the Carolinas and I don't think there's one with Carolina in the name. Maybe a series (like the mountain series). and I think Jen was naming hers MS xxx.
Sooooooo, my vote is for Brugmansia Carolina Rose.
edited to add Brugmansia

I also lived in the Carolina's and it's truly a beautiful state ;)
I hope this can be figured out soon, I have a beautiful cross here and I know it wants to be named tee hee
hmm..seems like the consensus seems to be for Carolina "Something" and it makes sense to me to connect this lovely brug with Ada in some way. My vote is for Carolina Rose if it's legal...Carolina Charm if it's changed to that. (hey, if it ends up being Carolina Charm - can we call her CC (said "SeeSee") for short??)

Okay, by the cut off time, I have Subtle Charm 2, Fancy1, Ariel 4, Rhapsody 6 and Carolina Rose 5. Anyone want to go back and check my count before I contact the winner?
Edited to change my mistake on Carolina Rose.

I don't know, it was on stand by and I didn't know it was un-paused lol
Rachel
It's to the point, I don't know what to do. LOL It's was paused at the cut off time so nobody could vote afterwards anyway. It was just a question as to the name being legal with another plant having that name..
Strawberry Margarada!!! ROTFLOL
lol, you poor thing. I got:
Fancy 1
Ariel 4
Subtle Charm 2
Carolina Rose 5
Evening Elegance 0
Rapsody or Rhapsody 6
on some it was hard to tell if it was a comment or a vote! They are all beautiful names for this beautiful brug!
Rachel
I think you're right, Rachel. it was hard to decide if it was a vote or comment. I'll change my numbers.
I like Rhapsody too.
PS How about Vamp? Lol!

Oh, Ada, you know I'm an absent minded old grannie. lol I don't know why, but I thought you lived in Tennessee. I guess you would have to name her Tennesee Waltz, if that were true. lol
Sylvia, you'll just have to look under the name as to where everyone is from. LOL
Didn't Carolina Charm get any votes? I would have called it Carolina Charmer
Carolina Rose
Sorry, Carolina Charm wasn't listed by anyone who was posting a name so I couldn't use it. It was my typing error when I typed the name. I guess I got the Charm from Subtle Charm. The name will be Rhapsody which was chosen by Shirley. (Brugie). She'll recive the rooted cutting or someone of her choice.. Thank you, Shirley. I added the H to make the spellers happy. LOL Thank you all for all the names you offered. I'm so sorry for all of the confusion over the legal part of naming a Brug.
This one will be named Carolina Charm.
CONGRATULATIONS BRUGIE, it is a GREAT name.
