Also it says to add water on the botton of this tray. Do i add water on the tray for the turkey? Do i add foil to the turkey or not? What else do you add on this roaster oven i need some cheap meals?
Ge roaster oven 18 quart
This might help.

This is how I personally cook a turkey in my GE 18 qt. roaster. You may or maynot like the method.
I do NOT thaw the turkey first if it is frozen. I just remove the plastic wrapper, place it breast side down in the roaster, add a quart or two of water, sprinkle the turkey with some season salt, cover it and bake until done. If the turkey is too large for the lid to fit down really tight, use foil to cover the entire pan top and crimp it well around the edges. Cook on 350* for 3-4 hours for a 20# turkey, then check to see if it is done enough to suit you or to pop out the little thing they put in to tell you it is done. If not, reseal the foil and cook another hour or so. I've done so many of these that I don't bother to time them anymore.
Where do you add the water on the botton tray or Do you add the inside of the roaster oven? Please explain!!
The water goes in the cooking(removeable top pan) pan with the turkey. Never pour water under the cooking pan.
Hey Leaflady ,Do you use youre racking tray to hold the turkey or just sit the turkey down?
deb, I have one of those too. Love it!
I'd use the rack. It won't hurt anything plus it sure makes it easy to lift the turkey (or chicken, whatever) out once it's done.
And yes, add the water to the tray the turkey sits in. Check back in and let us know how it worked for you, okay?
Shoe.
oh that looks like a nice little roaster oven. I really didnt understand what it was tilli clicked on the link, how handy is tha? can you cook anything in it? is it like a mini oven? or is it a cross between an oven and a crockpot?
they look so versatile......are they? can you cook cakes in them?
well i had to go back to the site and look at it again, to find the price. geee it sure is a good buy, and then i surfed around the wal mart site.....i sure miss wal mart...... gotta come home soon and get some shopping done........
Pebble, I bake cakes, pies, casserole, bread, etc. in ours. It isn't as handy for that as our big GE countertop oven(we have one of the ones that will handle a 12" pizza). But it makes huge recipes of stew, chili, etc. I boil down the venison bones sometimes to get the stock for canning. It is also great for cooking down grapes and elderberries in large batches to extract the juice. I haven't made applesauce in a long time but the last time I did I think I cooked at least 1/2 bushel at a time in it.
I have been wanting one of those for quite awhile. They're down to about $29 now at WM. Does anyone use them to make spag sauce in? How often gotta stir so don't burn? What else do you all bake / make in them? Can you use them like a crock pot too?? Thanks ~ Suzi :)
yep...they make a great crock pot. They are actually better than most crock pots 'cus instead of having the typical crockpot "Lo, Med, High" settings these have a regular thermocoupling, like an oven does. (Various degrees you can choose from.)
While you're at WM, or where-ever you get yours, go to the aisle that has baking pans and pick one that fits inside the roaster oven...you'll want that for various recipes (biscuits, meat loaf, etc).
