Am checking out the possibilities of the Coos Bay OR (inland towards Eugene) and the Bellingham WA area. Would like any feedback available, also would like to arrange to get newspaper from the areas to check on resources, $$ etc..
Any help appreciated.
Am a lady of a certain age (:) ) and need to be by medical facilities and vet services (furkids :) )
Thanks

Here is a good start to housing prices in Coos Bay, North Bend area.
http://www.theworldlink.com/
We lived there for several years and loved the area but I didn't much like the mold that grew in our closets and on stuff outside. Rainfall is very high I think I remember it was over 90 inches per year average. Not sure of the library these days but it was good back when we were there ( early 80s). I know the hospital there is good as are a couple of the veterinarians. Eugene area might be more to your liking for shopping, libraries, book stores, etc. It is close enough to the coast to go look at the ocean for a while and get home in time before darkness settles in. The hospital there is very good and much larger than the Coos Bay North Bend one with lots more choices of doctors available. The newspaper there is http://www.registerguard.com/news/2005/10/02/home.php
When I am more rested I might remember more about those areas.
Hugs,
Lani
My parents moved up to Bellingham about 4 years ago and my sister moved there like 6 years ago. They all love it up there.
My parents were from the Seattle area, south of Seattle, and my sister lived pretty much in the Seattle area too.
There is a good hospital in Bellingham and I know, because my mom has been there a few times with medical problems. The doc. seem good too.
It is more or less on the water there. Lots of fresh water lakes. Mts. within an hour driving. Malls, very outdoorsy type of area and people.
Eugene is just about 40 min. south from where I live. It is a nice town too. Like Ponditis says, you are close to the beach and mts within an hour each. Nice mall too.
I don't know about vets. but am sure both towns have plenty, especially since both towns have lots of farming around too.

You can check and compare the cost of living expenses at lots of sites, online. Just google 'cost of living comparison'. Here's one of the sites I found http://www.bankrate.com/brm/movecalc.asp.
I would think Eugene might be just a bit more relaxed pace than Bellingham being so close to Seattle. I hear the traffic up there is pretty hectic. Coos Bay is very nice. Salem, Oregon isn't half bad either.
Yes, Joann, the traffic is bad in Seattle. But Bellingham is 2 hrs north of Seattle and is just beautiful there. It is actually pretty isolated in a special way.
But Eugene and Salem area is nice too.
I've been to Bellingham quite a bit, but I don't think I've been to Coos Bay. Bellingham is right on the water (not far to get to the ferries that go to the San Juan Islands or Victoria, BC), and also close to North Cascades National Park. It's a pretty laid back town, plenty removed from the traffic and buzz of Seattle!! There's a university there (where both of my parents went). The weather is pretty mild due to the water, but a little "wilder" than farther south in Puget Sound since there's more open water there (Straight of Juan de Fuca). As daissyruffles said, a laid back outdoorsy type of place. I think it would be a great place to live. :)
