Dallas Plant Swap - In Pics!
The purple flowers are bush sage and they all look great!
Is that what it is? It use to be a tree until they tore the house down along with the tree. I thought it was the Chaste tree coming back.:(
That Datura is a beautiful plant ... you do know it is poison? Is it a double with a white throat? I didnt think the trumpets fare well here. If they do let me know. I want one ..not enough shade.....:(
Mitch what is the pink flowered bush?
The long purple flowers int he chain is Chaste Tree
The purple.pinky flowers on the silvery leaves are from bush sage
:-)

Sheila
Oh Thank goodness Mitch. I have always like that bush...if I get it going I will give you one. :)
Sylvia
Ohhh I like that too Shelia! I am a purple person. Maggie suggested to make me feel better about putting a compost drum in my courtyard I should paint it purple.lol
Please pray I am able to proprogate at least 25%! :)
Sylvia
25% nothing 75%! Prayers are heading in your direction... Sylvia what is the best saint for plants??? I have two in my garden, one of St Veronica and the other I am unsure but he looks poor and is carrying the Christ Child in his ams. No matter what area I put them in the plants do great - I dont know if I water them more or if the Saints like their area to look nice..... I know they are not normal garden Saints but they look great here....
I got the one that feeding the birds...I think. I thought he was St Anthony. What is a normal garden saint or who is one? I need to look that one up or maybe I will ask Father Rex in the morning ... if he is in a good mood. lol
Those garden saints are expensive ... just to own one is a blessing in itself.:)
True, they are costly. But I do find that if I cross the border and I am willing to take the clay ones at Chirstmas time they are cheaper but on the small side. Both of mine are in the 6 to 8 inch range so they are only the 5 dollar side. I am heading down there in the Nov. I can keep the look out if you are interested - and I know for sure who to look for. I dont stick around mass to ask many questions when we get to go. . . . Mitch
oh I dont stick around either...its only when we are coming out and they are waiting to shake your hand:)
Ohhhh... Mitch let me send you some money today. 25.00 should get a big one and a small one. :)
Sylvia
btw ..its 7:30 I am on my way to 8:00 mass...will tell you what I find out.

Sylvia - when I am down there let me see what they got buy a couple and bring them up to ya. No money needed - it would just be sent back.
Cannot wait to find out - you go early, we tend to go late just cannot get out of bed that early in the morning
That is St Francis - he is often used to welcome guest to.
Catholic online says -
Gardeners Patron Saint is - St. Rose of Lima or Adam
Plant Growers - Saint Therese of Lisieux
St. Francis of Assisi is the patron of Animals, Merchants & Ecology
When I went on and asked they said any Saint would work in a garden, but not to gaurd the garden but rather to be gaurded.
mine is - St. Bartholomew per the feast day, but St Rose of Lima is just the day before!
ummm wonder where I can find a St Bartholomew at?
Hi Sylvia,
Yes, that's St Frincis. He is almost always shown with animals (esp birds) around and perched on top of him. I'd love to find a good (and inexpensive) St Fiacre, the patron st of gardeners. He usually has a small shovel or plants in his hand.
Hi Mitch, we were obviouslt typing at the same time!
Here's a link to info re St Fiacre:
http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/saintf13.htm
I'm not Catholic, but saw a St Fiacre at a nursery, heard he was the patron st of gardeners, and thought it was neat.
St. Christopher - that is the one I have with the Christ Child. Online they say he might or might not have ever been - but he still holds a place in my garden!
St Fiacre - a saint well fitting good looking Mary!
St Francis was known to love animals and birds - thus he is shown with them.
http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/pst00313.htm says St Christopher is one of the saints of Gardens and Gardeners! No wonder he likes it here now Veronica.... she is the saint of laundry workers and photographers but here due to the fact we love the her story.
So Sylvia who do you want me to look for when I am down there? They are all painted that I have seen so far but I will look and see what I can find not painted.
Mitch
hey guys, I did some research too. The story of St Francis is astounding and he was about the ecology. Also looked at St Dorothy, St Serenus and St Cerneuf ...all gardening people.
Maggie ... your guy sound very interesting...would like him. Serenus/Cerneuf is one in the same.
Who would have all these saints Mitch?
St Dorothy is a woman.........I need a woman out there.:)
Anyway get them all if you can...:) Josephine need one too. I really wish you would let met give you money:(
Sylvia
No money - there is a great saint shop right across the border in Mexico where the Nuns sell all diffrent Saints. Some are plastic, clay, and various other materials. St. Dorothy - will be on the look out!
There are three St Dorothy - you mean DOROTHY of Caesarea right?
Daves me the best image to take with me (they often have no idea who they have there for sure until you show they the pic and then they get who you want!)
that is a great spot - Love the plant layout and how it works with him - Mitch
Trunnels, How pretty ...you are such a showoff! LOL
...is your garden still looking that good or is this an earlier picture? ...........:)
DOROTHY of Caesarea .... I dont know what she looks like. but I want one in stone unpainted...if its painted that ok . Oooowee...I know exactly where I want to put her.:)
will try to find a pic Mitch.
Alright these are my two - they cost a dollar and the Nuns said (so it must be true!) They were made to help build a new church. They are not the best - and yes they have better ones too (St Peter is coming home with me this time for sure - 12 in high and I already have it a special place of honor)
This is my St. Christopher
I have no idea why they both have grey hair... they both died young I thought . . . ummm
I have a great little place that makes them out of stone. I know they have Mary and the 11, along with several Christs and several others that I cannot keep track of - but I will track one down for you, I know they are out there just got to find it!
BTW these hae been outside year round for two years now - I might have to touch up the paint before to long!
Mitch
Sylvia - this si all I can find on the web for what she looks like I am going to keep looking but she was listed under hard to find Saints so it might be harder to find her but I am sure the Nuns there will know where I can find her at.

Mitch ...after looking at that site, the all are so beautiful...just do the best you can. :) Who is St Veronica?
St Veronica -
On the road to be crucified St Veronica went up to Christ and wiped the blood from his face - and maybe gave him some water depending on if you think there were one or two women there. The cloth was held for many years in churches in the area and is now lost - but some say it is at the Vadican in halls there... time will tell.
Ohhhhh I like Veronica. :)
Sylvia
would you believe there is a St Sylvia?:)
So tell me about St Sylvia - some minds just have to know!
She is our special saint around the house, my wife is very not into saints but loves Veronica with the whole story. Very touching - Mitch
