why couldn't i log on today?

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

i tried for several hours and nothing. was it just that there were so many users on DG today? debi

Dunno. I was out putting together a new greenhouse (*yea!!*) so I wasn't on very much today. Did anyone else experience a problem?

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Yep. DG was either down or unavailable from about noon (EST) when I first tried, until maybe 2pm. Had a couple of emails from others saying they couldn't get on either. I sent an email to Dave asking how long it might be down but got no answer.

I was able to get on, but everything was so sloooow that I gave up for a while.

i know of at least one other person who couldn't get on too. debi

We indeed had some intermitten network problems yesterday.

Network problems seem to be what we can expect from the data center where DG is currently being located.

The good news is that this Friday I'm setting up new servers in Dallas, at a colo provider that will not fail us. Once we transition to those servers we should be good to go.

that's good news, dave. not being able to get to the garden is just about the worse thing that can happen (if you don't count all the really bad stuff in the world)! LOL debi

Agreed!

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Before you move the servers, would you consider posting an advisory? That way we will have a warning, and can plan to find another diversion (if there IS one!).

mg

We're not moving the servers. I'm putting new ones in a new location.

and will the switch-over have down time?

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Ok, you can tell now that I am computer stupid.

And I started out on a Tandy TRS-80 off a cassette deck. I probably should have stuck with that, lol.

;-) (winking SMILEY!)

The switchover should be seamless. You may be redirected to temple.davesgarden.com for a time, but you shouldn't notice any differences except maybe the need to login again.

Dave, will this speed-up picture loading slowness?
I don't know if it's my server, my laptop, or DG. Is there a way to tell?
Thanks ever so much for being a wonderful Site-Daddy.
Sidney

Yes it will.

MG, Our first computer was the TRS 80 with the cassette...nice to find another original trash80 computer person! Our son just took naturally to writing programs. I've gone from using it to managing small businesses to graphics designer (by default!). But, don't understand linux and Dave's world although I admire the skills. Thanks Dave for all you do.

In one thread today I wanted to post 3 pictures...was only able to post 2...although people could post between pictures...If I used "preview" the "send" button didn't show up...if I just sent it with out the preview it didn't take...am I making sense? Probably not. Jo

I just thought it was me. Thanks, Jo.

Jo, if the "send" button didn't show up after you previewed it, it may be that you didn't add any text to the text box, or it was the same text as the last post you made. (The system looks for that to avoid someone accidentally submitting the same post over and over.)

Terry....Thanks....I FINALLY figured that out....since I had said I was going to post 3 pictures I didn't add text the the third one...but did after I posted here. Live and learn!!! Jo

I have noticed a lot of slowness the last few days, which isn't typical of DG. Glad to hear that there will be new servers come Friday.
