5 minutes

West Monroe, LA(Zone 8a)

5 minutes is all it took to run me back inside.I haven't weeded in a very long time, Finally after Rita-the high for today was 88. 3 days ago it was a record 102. The wind is still blowing, so I thought I'd go out to weed. The thing is when the electricity went out yesterday, I spent the night at moms. So I decided to have a nice whirlbath this morning when I got home.I got so carried away with the beauty of the green trees blowing with puffy white clouds and blue sky behind,, the bees buzzin in the purple mexican petunia outside my tub window that instead of a much needed nap I headed outdoors with my Daughters dog Daisy bouncin around me. Logic told me to keep weedin where I'd left off in kitchen patio garden. I already have a huge pile of pulled weeds on a tarp there I haven't carted to compost yet. Too wet to now. As I began to pull I started to sweat, ugh! Not so cool with the humidity after all, but determined I kept on. So I settled down next to the Peace rose puling weeds, not even deterred by painful nettles. I thought the stinging on my hands was from them. NOPE! Fire Ants!! So there was my 5 minutes outside! I washed off with cool water, cut open & smeared my Aloe on bites and came here to complain a little. Ok, so now where is some shade? Think I'll go work there, take my scooter chair, get down low and look better this time. Well, think I'll cool off with tuna sandwhich 1st.
OH! Yeah! I forgot-No downed tree's ! I am so releived- we have so many I thought might be gonners from drought and being in the woods, downed limbs, twigs, ect are just normal part of life anyway. Quite a few downed large oaks in town, on highways-so I was lucky there.

Well, Ginger, You got further with the weeds than I did. I was waiting for rain to soften the grounds so I could go out to the front garden and pull weeds. I dont' go out there in the summer time because of snakes, and the weeds are taking over. Everything looks horrid out there. But I don't want to get bit by snakes, so I leave it till fall. Since it's rained so much yesterday and today, I'll pull weeds tomorrow. See, I've put mine off till tomorrow, at least you went out there and made an effort. Our temps here this week are suppose to be low 80's and thursday it's suppose to be 78 I'm thrilled to no end to have georgious weather. Seems I have so much more energy to do things outside when the weather is cooler. But it's October soon enough, and it will start cooling off here.

Kathy! Did you have to make me think of snakes? I forgot that My SIl saw a Moc under my bridge in back garden. Now I'll have to beat the weeds witha stick before I start weeding, but them that would getthe fire ants going too. So maybe a good idea. You have made my day-that I'm not the only one who won't weed in the heat. Thanks-I needed some company looking out at the weedy mess my garden is. I lok forward to Oct. myself. Never did make it back out- got caught up i family stuff. Ginger

Well, Beating the weeds isn't such a bad idea for sure. LOL I usually take the water hose with me and spray things down, we have snakes really bad here.

We're suppose to have 90 degrees tomorrow, weather said 80's this week, Iswear it changes from one day to the next around here. That's Arkansas for ya.

Ginger, if you ever run out of Aloe put vinegar on the Fire ant bites. I use it all the time and never get the 'itch'.

ginger, what maudie said. i was just gonna post and tell you about vinegar. i keep a big ole jug outside. just plain old white vinegar and don't scratch or break the bites. heals up real quick and no pain, no blisters. debi
