Meet Barney

Love the SA wolf hound story. 2 yrs ago we had an entry in an agility trial for a "Zimbabwe Retriever" The dog was a lab/Rhodesian Ridgeback cross! Most people with pet dogs would never know the difference there are so many breeds out there we dont know about!

Oh my I thought I was the only one who made up types of dogs.
We had a stray for most of her 18 years and she was a small looking shepard cross that we used to say was a coyote/ weasel cross as she was very sneaky. After getting a ticket for her being loose we found out that each day after we went to work she went on a walk about the neighborhood. Of course she returned just in time to greet us at the gate!
That was a $$$$ thing.

Hi all, sorry for the slow reply. I thank you for all the responses but I'm just now able to type without looking like gibberish. I'll have to make this a long thread. Please bear with me.

Hi Lana, how are you doing? Gosh you only live a few blocks away and I haven't seen you since the roundup in Victoria.
Inand, I've got an appointment for early next week for shots. This food hound in 2 weeks is too heavy for me to carry with broken wrist. Passing this job off to dh with instructions to not let him touch the ground.
I've had 2 dogs for over 30 years but mostly on level ground. I have 130 stairs from the street to the lower gardens, where the brugs are. I am constantly going up or down. Maybe if I lived on flat land I wouldn't have tripped over Barney. LOL, maybe not. I'm clumsy.
He's doing well on the leash after the initial "nope, not going there". He's fine with it. With my wrist it's an effort to get it clicked on him as he is always in a hurry to go out. But we're doing OK. I'll find out about the command words. Thanks.
Thanks Echoes, My daughter took her cats back after 3 years when Barney arrived. I miss them terribly. They followed me everywhere but were too cat to get under my feet.
LInda, "twince"? love it. Hope he's giving you loads of pleasure.
Annabelle, I've only had two dogs who each lived 15 years each. Both pure breds, an Old English Sheepdog and a Beaded Collie. I'd never run into a breeder that didn't believe in shots until after 12 weeks but thought I might be out of the shot loop. I seem to have a holistic dog. LOL, hope that doesn't offend anyone but my other dogs never ate what this dog gets.
Lourspolaire, I'm not sweating the breed, lol, I waited through two litters to get Barney. I do love him. I might die with "Death By Dog" but still love him. Your Nounou sounds like a very special friend. We all should be lucky enough to have a friend like that at least once in our lives. If we're lucky, it happens twice.

Gracious, Liz--I missed the broken wrist ! I cannot find it in this thread, so I shall find it elsewhere. If you need help with Barney, let me know. Dawn
