Fat Land by Greg Critser

About the book ..................
Fat Land is a wake-up call for Americans to do something about this epidemic. Greg Critser takes a hard-line approach to reach people and tell them to stop lying to themselves, to take responsibility, to vote wisely.

Despite the seriousness of Fat Land's subject matter, Critser writes with humor and speaks from personal experience, making this book an entertaining, informative work as well as a frightening account of the obesity crisis. You'll not only learn about the dark underside of cheap fats and sugars and how they metabolize, but discover that J Lo's butt isn't too big, "baggy" jeans really aren't so baggy, and why, in the world of fast food, bigness is addictive because it is about power.
This is the kind of book that shold be passed around once it has been read.

I can send it Media Mail which is the cheapest way but it will take up to 2 to 3 weeks to get to you

Often , since reading that book I think of how in the 60's we(family) would all go to McD's for dinner with the lil kids on Friday evening . We were just the av. young family . We each had a reg. burger , the 3 kids split a reg bag of fries DH & I shared another bag of fries sometimes he had 2 burgers if he was xtra hungry.(He's a big strappin' hard workin guy) 2 large sodas to go around and everyone was satisfied and happy.
Then the fast food joints started making everything bigger AND cheaper but Dad still had 2 burgers except now they were HUGE !
Anso it begins, Corporate America making America fat & sick! And dot.Gov. only concerned on making da almighty buck and getting votes .Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Ok , I getting off da soap box now

There are many books and studies out on this subject . I found this one used on-line. Good deal!

Rent the video Supersize me....same topic...watch this guy put away fast food and become larger, more lethargic, moody etc. all because of fat and sugar.

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

The book goes back into 20 or 30 years of research into the food industry, corporate America and dot.Gov. explaining how this has all evolved .

Why this is allowed by the powers that be .

Fat Land contains little of the authors personal problems, very little as it is not the point of the book.

Supersize Me is a story that was put out as entertainment and doesn't teach much if any ground level reasoning or logic.
Really just the same ol thing capitalizing on recent events.

We all have known most of our lives that fat and sugar is bad .

VERY few of us know WHICH of the many forms of fat or sugar (some most of us have never heard of ) is where,

how our body chemistry handles these poisons and the often dire consequences that can follow.

We have been blindfolded and led like a herd of fatted cattle.

To wit: I wonder how many folks read my second post thinking to themselves that we must have been either starving or underprivelaged ?
Which can not be farther from the truth !

Another good book along these lines is Fast Food Nation, by Eric Schlosser. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0060938455/002-0742377-9764000?v=glance

Yup Kim, that was on my list along with a few others covering the same subject.

I just don't have enough time to read like I used to.
It's been years since I polished off a book in a couple days.
Now it seems I need keep one handy to read as I find time ;-)

I love books about Irish ledgends and mythology and Jean Auel's writings.
