What a trip to have two former players, Bobby John and Stephenie, introduced to the teams! The winning team really faces an uphill battle with so many people down in the tribe from dehydration and exhaustion.

An episode 1 synopsis is here: http://www.cbs.com/primetime/survivor11/show/ep01/

There's good coverage at these site, too:

Anyone else have favorite sites?

Title's been changed - nothing to spoil for me (I've never been able to get into Survivor. Dave and Trish might still be fans - I can't say for sure ;o)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Terry! I'd misspelled Guatemala and it was bugging me, LOL.

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Ooh, I didn't know it was back on. My husband was looking for it the other day, too. Thanks for the reminder. :)

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Whoo Hooo another place I can discuss Survivor. I'm shamelessly hooked. I have several sites I post at, but they are not for the meek or easily offended, lol.

I'm big on spoiler boards, and these 4 are my faves.

I am a true Survivor junkie. My husband and I have watched since the beginning - never missing an episode.

For this one in Guatemala, I was totally amazed at how the guys were knocked on their butts from dehydration. All I could think of if it was me and I was bent over a tree barfing, too weak to stand and my eyes rolling back in my head - I would have said "Home James"!

I thought Bobby John was going to die! He looked like he had lost 20 lbs in 24 hrs! As much as I would love the challenge of doing something like this, I don't think I could do it for a few reasons:

Definitely not in shape
Couldn't stand being away from my family for 40+ days
And I'm not real fond of poisonous snakes! EWWWWW!

They need to do a Survivor Alaska. But of course, parkas don't get the viewers!

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Yes, a Survivor Alaska would be great! My husband went through a phase where he wanted to live off the land in Alaska. That would be a good eye-opener. :D

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Parkas? Yeah, the swimsuit models would sue for discrimination. Bobby John was *this* close to going into a seizure, the way his eyes were rolling up like that. Why IS it the men were so whupped compared to the women? Is it because men have faster metabolisms?

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

They will claim it was due to carrying all the heavy stuff, but did you notice it only seemed to affect the guys on Bobby Jon's team? Steph's team wasn't shown having the same issues, and they had to row back across the lake. Editing or reality? I also think it is odd that the team that got the sickest is the one Margaret a Family Nurse Practitioner is on. Did they only show her team to highlight her skills, or was it a fluke? In case you didn't already know, the castmembers can and do recieve IV's if necessary. In Africa in particular, they were refered to as the "3 o'clock poking".

This looks like a good season, no layabouts will go far. If they vote off the strong, the cut their own throats for a change.

Game on!

mg

petersburg, KY(Zone 6b)

mg-that's interesting I didn't know they got IV's, it makes sense though.
Thank god they had the nurse on their team, you know they won't pick her off too fast.
I was glad to see bobby john and stephanie, when they mentioned 2 fav's coming back I was scared it would be rob and amber. thank god I was wrong!!
gardenwife- my DH says its because it woman have more endurance and our bodies are stronger because we store fat.
Who know's
Shelly

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Yeah, I think they'll just nurse her along for a while.

Indeed, we women do have the reserves. ;)

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

I have plenty reserves.

They will keep Margaret untill she goes from caring and nurturing to bossy and domineering.

There is always medical staff close at hand, alltho JiffyPop did say this year they looked to Margarete for triage, when she got worried, then they got worried.

gardenwife, *thud* owww my punny bone!

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

If we really sit back and think about it, we are only seeing what THEY (the powers that be) want us to see. TPTB edit it so we see what will cause the greatest emotion - whether good or bad. They emphasize all of the bad things - poisonous snakes, spiders, mean monkeys, etc. when I highly doubt any of the staff there would let someone get bitten by something deadly.

Luckily, I only think logically part of the time so I am able to get the full entertainment value out of it that is intended. LOLOL

I love SURVIVOR! (And Amazing Race!!)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

True, true. I'd imagine only so much drama can be had while sticking within liability clauses. LOL

We started watching the Amazing Race last season and loved it. Can't wait for the premiere of season 8 on September 27! http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race8/ We'll have to start a second thread for that show and keep track.

I avoid the spoiler sites -- I love being surprised.

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

gardenwife, you will certainly be surprised at TAR this season then, lol.

Ooo I know something you don't know do dah, do dah!

tee hee hee hee

mg

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

If you spoil it, I will have to track you down and feed you to the gators.

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

I didn't and won't, I try to respect people that want to remain spoiler free.

But I do have to ask,,,GATORS in OHIO???

ROFL

mg

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

We'd have to film a special on-location show in the tropics. Survive THAT, MG! LOL!

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Can I call in a lifeline? I call Steve Irwin, roflmao!!!

HA!

mg

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Nah, give me Jeff Corwin any day! He is such a hoot and a cutie to boot! (ewww, that rhymes!) Steve Irwin needs some 'downers'! LOLOL!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I think you're right, by cracky!

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Oh ya, totally hooked on Survivior. I was soooo glad to see Steph back but they are losing every challenge! I was afraid it was Rob and Amber too! I watched the end of TAR last season because I wanted to see those slimey weasels LOSE.
I think there is a lot of manipulation in what they choose to show us, but we generally get the character of the contestants pretty clearly. Margaret is getting on the guys nerves, even though she is usually right, they don't like being "told" anything. They need some brain work challenges, it's all been muscle so far. I dvr every show, and sometimes watch it again to see if I missed anything.

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

slimey weasels

ROFLMBO

mg

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

LOL, we like Rob & Amber. They're all about the game. We were glad they didn't win, though. ;)

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Romber about drove me nuts. I so clearly remember one night yelling at the TV, dogs started barking at me, kids are wanting to know why I'm so mad...and my dad called. Nathan (14) answered the phone and told my dad I would have to call him back, I was in the living room "having a tantrum". Sheesh. *roll eyes here*

mg

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

:Romber: LOL! Over at another website, they call my DH and me Howberley. Either that or Gardenho. ;)

Landisburg, PA(Zone 6a)

I am a Survivor junkie also but I missed last weeks show....CAn anyone fill me in...What was the challenge and who got voted off???????
ANd I also love Amazing Race..........

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

bluepoppy,

One of my fav sites is JokersUpdates.com I got hooked on it for Big Brother, but they also cover just about every reality show.

Here is a recap of epp 2 for you.

For TAR: http://www.jokersupdates.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?Cat=&C=9&ShowCat=1

M5~On 9/20 ^^up there^^ I posted this:

Quoting:

They will keep Margaret untill she goes from caring and nurturing to bossy and domineering.

Are you a betting woman?

mg

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

I think Steph's days are numbered. She's a little cocky. Don't get me worng - I like her but she showed a different side this past week. Also, I was reading the BLOGs on the Survivor site from the past cast members and they all HATE Steph. Pretty funny!

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

LOL.

My daughter is a Senior Post Coodinator in Burbank and she is now working on Surreal Life 6 and Flavor Flav has a new show to boot (but I did not tell you that)

I'll deny it all.

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

OMG knot!

Questions are are just flying thru my brain!

But one MAJOR question? Is ANY part of Surreal Life scripted?

mg

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

I agree, they will keep Steph for the athletic but will boot her off as soon as they can. She is more determined this time, and trusts none of them. Last time she felt more valued and was shocked when they voted her off. She and Margaret are both doomed. Won't be take long if they keep losing.

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

But didn't you just want to grab Morgan and throw her into the net? Since when do you play by holding up a post? Arrrrgggggh.

I'd never make it on a reality show. I'd end up committing assault and murder. Then I'd have to blow my winnings on bail.....

mg

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

can someone tell me why the girls all have nice hair do's? Gee whiz, I go camping for one weekend and my hair is a mess...these gals been out in a jungle and lookit how nice their do's are!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I think they mostly have easy-care hairstyles...Those "just run your fingers through it" type styles. I miss having such a style!

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

Mornin,

It is not scripted per se but the editing room does a good job of showing the worst of people.

There is another reality show that she just got doing called "We're so Brady" that partially was filmed close to here on the island of Puerto Rico. I think it is episode 8. I am not sure if it has started yet.

She goes to the house of S6 every morning to pick the film up from the night before. I ask her what it is like and she says this.

"Mom, I signed a 3 million dollar contract. If I tell you I am going to be sued because the whole world will then know".

So she tells me nothing about what she works on other than general stuff.

Kids are great, wouldn't you say?

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Drat! Hmmmm.....does she hold liquor well? You hold her down and I'll pour tequila in her! She get hammered and spill everything! I know I can't keep secrets if I get tipsy, I tell anyone everything!

I had to make a decision this week. As much as I like TAR, I like Commander-in-chief better. And with TAR doing the family thing this time, well they aren't as interesting. I have TIVO, but the kidlets would holler if I was "watching" their TV while taping on mine.

I can catch the recaps if I want to keep up.
