Sending Dmails Without "Selecting" User

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

Is there a way to send a Dmail directly? That is, in the current Dmail system one clicks on "Mail," then clicks on "Compose Mail," then goes to "Find a user" and types in the recipient's DG name and then clicks on "Search". Then a new menu comes up which says, "1 user was found that contains '[username]', and you click on "Select." Is there a way to bypass all of this and just type in the recipient's name? For example, I know that my friend's DG name is "Plant_Crazy." Why can't I just type that in a "TO" field, skipping the above steps? It might be nice to have the other steps if you aren't sure of a person's name, but if you are it's extra work. The only way to currently circumvent all these steps is to find a thread which contains the user's name and click on the name, which is also extra work.

Thank you in advance for your assistance and cooperation.

Not sure if this helps, but if you're in a Forum that the person posted in, just click on their username to get to their profile (garden site). The first option on their page is to send them a D-mail. :)

Thanks! I know that works, but I guess I wasn't clear. I should have started with, "In the current Dmail system when one clicks on 'Compose Mail', then 'Find a user'....... " I'll edit this so that it reads correctly.

Pekasky,

I see what you are saying. I just tried putting a name in for a known user in the "Compose" block. It didn't open a new dmail, it only brought up old dmails that had the user name in it.

As TuttiFrutti did, the only way I ever start a new dmail is by click on the users name either in a forum or in the member listing

Good question tho, maybe you can't do it your way.

I'm sure someone will be along soon who knows more than I, (no doubt) LOL

No, you can't bypass the 'select a member' section. It's required.

Tip: Enter the username in that field and then press enter. If you typed it exactly correct then it will automatically be selected in the pulldown and all you have to do then is to click the "Select" button and off you go. It couldn't be faster.

Dave:

Yes, that's the way I did it, and it is quick. But for fast typists like me it's even quicker if you don't have to take your fingers off the keyboard. Sorry it can't be done.

Ah, you're a fast typist. In that case, let me tell you how I do it: use the tab key. Tab cycles between fields and the submit. Tab over to the submit and press enter and off you go.

I'm doing something wrong. From "Compose mail" I typed in the username, hit "Enter", and what came up was the username and "Select." There was no "submit." When I tried to tab over to "Select" I was taken all the way back up to the "Address" toobar in Internet Explorer. Continued tabbing didn't get me anywhere either. It's probably an IE problem. Guess I'll have to do it the hard way. Thanks for trying to help.

with Firefox you just select the submit button (in this case, the "Select" button) and press enter.

What are you doing using IE anyway? :)

It's what's on my PC. How do you use Firefox instead? Right now I'm using Earthlink as my ISP, and they're terrible too. Can't wait to change in December.

Click on the firefox button at the bottom of the page. Easy as pie!!

Thanks! I'll give it a try in a few days, as soon as I have time to get used to it.

Dave, you have Firefox '1.5 Beta 1' at the bottom of the page.

If you go into 'Release Notes' you'll see they have 'Firefox 1.0.6'.

Which one is more up-to-date?

Thanks, Joan

'Firefox 1.0.6' is the official release and 1.5 is a beta. Although I am using the 1.5 version, I recommend the 1.0.6 version for non-programmers.
