Hobbies? *rubs sore back*

There is a reason to this post lol.

How many of you have picked up a new hobby here lately? Something you have never tried before and just thought one day..."Hey, I wonder if I could do this?"

Well...my bright idea was to make Adirondack Chairs. If you don't have any idea what those are: http://www.freeww.com/chairs.html (they have pictures there)

Now mind you, I have never EVER done any woodworking before. I just learned how to use a jigsaw a month ago. Well, I started at 2pm this after noon, and at nearly 1 am, I have completed my first set of chairs for my deck. I am sore and feel as if someone took a baseball bat to my back. Worked a jigsaw, circular saw, sander, dremel drill, regular drill, and I have two *grins* unique chairs to show for it. They ain't perfect, they ain't identical, but I made them. And I can't wait to do the two for the breezeway at the house.

Anyone else do something recently that you have never done before? Something creative?

I'm picking up gardening :0)

If those are your first tries, you are a skilled beginner. Nice job

Oh how fun! Good for you Magwar!!!!

I tried rug-braiding last winter. Sorry but I don't have
any funny stories. I've found that there's not much that can
hold my attention as well as gardening. I do need to
figure out a hobby that's less physical eventually but for
now - gardening works! Oh -the rugs. I met with some
friends several times for the braiding. You cut wool fabric
into strips about 3" wide, fold them into strips ~1" wide
and then braid. These are then sewn into an oval or round
rug. My rug is about 2' in diameter and sitting in the closet
unfinished. Spring came and I went outside :-)

I'm curious to hear about other folks tries at new hobbies too!

Good job, Magwar!

2 chairs in 11 hours? Whew--no wonder you're sore! ; )

Thanks yall =)

Mini they are not that expensive to make. I spent 46 dollars in lumber, and at the cost of my time I saved alot of money. My husband said if I got good at it, I could start selling them at the local flea market. I plan on getting a woodworking book that can teach me more.

Hmm.. I'm gonna save some $$ to make me two.. Are u using treated woods? I have all tools to cut the woods.. So my children can help me to build them. :o) Sound fun LOL

I used pressure treated pine to make mine. It was easy to cut, but I am going to have to invest in some good jigsaw blades that won't rip the boards.
