Where WERE my manners hiding?... a BIG Welcome to Joy!!
Coffee and...Part 29...! :-D
Thanks for the welcome Mary & Darius, I also use 55 gallon plastic drums that started out bright blue and I have painted them a nice forest green with the new plastic spray paint. I don't understand a bibb??? What I have been doing is putting the sump pump in the drum and watering a way, works good for me.
-joy
Hi and Welcome, Joyous.....I usually just lurk here, but all the "girls, etc" know me.
I like your idea of the sump pump....pretty fancy..
Hap
Joy there can't be TWO of us!! Heaven forbid!! They always say that you have a twin in this world - maybe you're it!! Thinning short hair, big bum, wild laugh, and loves life (most of the time!)
Just went to visit my MIL - haven't been there for three weeks - nope she hasn't changed!! Her daughter was there and when MIL left the room - her daughter said "man, she drives me crazy" - we laughed at that one! I wanted to agree, but just said my mom was losing it too and we would be next!!
Folks are coming out for haircuts. They think I am a beautician!! Good thing their eye sight is failing LOL Speaking of haircuts - I just got a major short one. I thought I liked it until I saw myself in a mirror when shopping. I thought - man that girl got scalped - it was ME!! Good thing hair grows.
Bal - I am sure we should clone you...My DH makes meals, but they are always meat/potatoes/veggies. Never dessert (unless you call my nightly bowl of ice cream dessert!) I love biscotti - you will have to share your favorite receipe with me/us. I make one with dried cranberries and mini choco chips that is quite tasty. Unfortunately I can't leave it alone and usually eat the whole batch myself.
Our grapes are ready - anybody ever make grape pie? I had it once and it reminded me of blueberry pie. I may (notice the mayyyyy) give one a try.
Gotta tell ya about my DH's fall. He went smelt dipping with two friends at night and was carrying two buckets filled with smelt back to the cabin. He caught his foot on a root, went flat on his face, smashed his glasses and all the smelt dumped out on the ground!! LOL LOL I am sure it was after a few brews, so I didnt feel too bad for him! He hasn't been smelt dipping since!
What in the world is a hose bib? Never heard of that one!!
Aria - handsome son - I have one bald one and one with the thickest hair. Love em both, but still often would like to grab them by the ear and tell them to straighten up!
Made it back from the CO-OP but without my 50# of oyster shell that is now 2 weeks overdue.Tinker picked out a 'greenie' and a round jerky thing. The nearby recycling place just got several plastic drums but they were $ 10.00 Darius, and didn't have baby food in them. I think it was a soapy substance rather than nuclear waste so it should be OK. Sorry about the cobbler. It needs more sweetening (is it ever enough?) but dribbling a cinnamon/nutmeg over the ice cream works. Here's what a "hose bib" looks like. They come with either male or female threaded fittings or solder fittings, or in plastic and several hose end configurations.
Good photo job!
Thanks Darius and Bal, if you'd a said an out door faucet thingy I'd a known what you were talking about. lol
LOL, Sarv, how old are they? much too late for mine to straighten out, but they finally did anyway
Maria
Hi Joy and hi to everyone else. I try to keep up with this forum, but it's getting to be busy season. I've got quite a few craft shows coming up and then there's the holidays to deal with both at the store and at home. In between that my husband and I might be able to get the garden cleaned up and tilled and the sheet metal shed kit built (yeah, sure!)
Sarv, hope you get the tooth problem straightened out real SOON! I can empathize. Mine were so bad I just got rid of them all 35 years ago.
I can relate to the "graceful" goings on too. Just two nights ago I managed to catch my left foot in my purse strap and launch myself halfway across the kitchen before coming down HARD on my right with all my toes curled underneath. Ow and other bluer words! Got off easy this time though, just some technicolor toes. Last time I broke my ankle.
Darius, sorry about your mother. Even when it's expected and for the best it isn't easy. I know I'll miss mine if I outlive her (even if I do have the urge to strangle her myself every so often ---- comes of living in the same house, I think.)
Eggplant Parmesan on the counter. Help yourselves. Ran out of time to make dessert, I'm afraid.
Goodnight!
Well GOBs, I have been busy today and just checking in for the 2nd time. First was real early. I have been sitting here LMAO. DH just keeps asking what's so funny? I told you I had a weird sense of humor, and I have enjoyed you all relating all your graceful moves.
Bal, those chairs are h---. I used one of my bar stools to stand on to reach something in kitchen cabinets, was doing good, until it started to swivel with me. Didn't fall, but don't use it any more.
Julie, that fall at the cabin sounds awful. Glad you finally made it to the phone to summon help, also glad nothing was broken.
Darius, your recouperating dog almost made you a hospital candidate!! The things we do for pets!!
Okus, I really laughed when I read your description of falling down stairs as "coming down the quick way."
Blooms, like your "bouncing back has slowed", sure nuff. And yanking on weeds, and falling on behind, yeah I have done that too.
Marcia, just the other day, I stepped on a rake that I had left laying, and it boinged me good on the arm that I raised to protect my head.
Mary E. I can just see you lolling in the puddle made by the water, which quickly turned into mud!!
McCool, you need to carry a clutch purse. Those straps will get you every time. Got out of my car about a month ago, and closed the strap to my purse in the door, and just about yanked my arm off.
Joyous can sympathize with the rotator cuff thing. DH has had 5 surgeries 3 on one arm and 2 on the other. At one point he had both arms in a sling, and guess who did the waiting on him?
Sarv, glad your hf are gone, Just had one sitting here typing.
I think we should start a contest to see who has the funniest "fall story". I have several more, one at the bowling alley, one, no 2 from a ladder. Joyous, you need to share the details of you major fall. Like always, I will be sitting here laughing out loud.
Well tomorrow is the BIG DAY. Our fish fry. Went today to the rented community center and set up tables and chairs and decorated. Neighbor and DH and I are breading the fish tomorrow morning, and then the meal is at 6:00 tomorrow night. You all think of me often tomorrow, as I will be worn out when this is all over. It is such fun, and I enjoy it, but every year it gets bigger and bigger. This is our way of saying to our neighbors and friends that "we appreciate you, and value you".
Well I hope tonight is a night where I am unconscious. I need the rest. I will give you a detailed account tomorrow night. Every body take care, and rest well.
dfc - that sure is a neat thing to do for ur neighbors!
Welcome Joy - so very glad to have u join us. I lurk more than post these last few months since I am, sadly, now gainfully employed full time. lol I very much doubt u read all the past threads sessions, so just a quick run down - I'm still a GOB in training, till 12-26! I shake my head in wonder where the years went... have DD who is 28 and DSs who are 25, 21 and 16 and my sweetheart DGD, Samantha is now 5 (and a half - just ask her! lol)
I'm a relay operator for the deaf so have to do all these abbreviations at work and I don't switch back to regular typing too well when I'm on a roll. We also only use periods, for spacing between thoughts only, not for ends of sentences.....like that......lol........ and exclamation marks were just approved for use. Email addresses are very annoying cuz we have to write http(colon)(forward slash)(forward slash)name(at)blank.com Parenthesis are used for the relay opr msg s to the deaf person.... they know if it has no parenthesis... the words were spoken by the person they are calling Also everything is in caps I was surprised how quickly I got used to it (smile)
Loved everyone s stories about their most memorable crashes. Besides the one when Barney was 'driving' the van, posted elsewhere last year - where? I'll never tell LOL my next worst one happened while riding my bike when I was 6 weeks preggers with the 16 yr. old. Scenerio is small town, riding my bike on the sidewalk too fast, 1/2 wine barrels filled with flowers placed at strategic intervals.... etc. Flying around a wide corner, that wine barrel jumped out and grabbed my pedal!!! The nerve!!! Bike stopped, Laura didn't... over the handle bars and then a somersault down the curb -- the old curbs were really bizarre, about 15 inches high, who knows why, not me! -- onto the street! Oh the immediate shocking pain! And the humiliation -- right on main street across from the grocery store... only one little old lady saw me and hurried to my side, "are u ok dear?" I muttered a quick 'I'll be ok" thru clenched teeth and eased back onto the seat, tried not to move a single muscle except the one foot that had to pedal - the right leg wouldnt work. Made it the 5 blocks home, had DH help me up the steps to the recliner and I doubt I moved no more than bathroom trips the next few days. I still have a dent a few inches long where my shin bone connected with something!
And in other news -- been busy potting up volunteer plants and some that need dividing for a plant sale at work. I've decided to hang a sign for free will donation, minimum $1 per plant with proceeds going to H.Kat. survivors. Hope they give generously! If not, I shud still have about $50. to give.
Yesterday morning we had a terrible hail storm go thru just10 miles north of us. A couple of cousins lost grain bins, a truck shed, all the soybean crops are toast but the corn was filled out so they ll still get a harvest there. In the east part of the county and in the next county they had to get the snowplows out to get the roads cleared for the school buses, one area the hail was 1.5 feet deep!! DH went and took some pictures at one cousin's house. Chunks of hail were 3 to 4 inches wide, and quite jagged. Lots of damage to shingles, trees down, just a lot of stuff to clean up.
okus - no still no green card - took new biometrics last week Tues. so hopefully soon now. It's only been since Apr. 30, 2003 since it expired. LOL (wry grin) If ur interested, here's the thread - definitely not compulsory reading... http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/472592/
julie - the quote box is easy -- [ quote]message yadda yadda yadda[/quote] now be sure and leave out that space between the first bracket and the 'q' or it won t work. Just hit preview first, then u ll know if u did it right or not. PS I've got 7 sedums potted ready to go so will get one out to u soon. :)
edit: hair storm? nah, haiL storm!

I don't know if I can post here but have a comment for Kooger.
I am hard of hearing and I use the CapTel telephone that is used with the relay operator. So you are one of the people who I see do my conversations, huh?
I love my telephone with you guys. I wouldn't be able to use the telephone without you guys. Thanks.
What is your number? It sure is a small world out there.
Carol
hi daisyr - of course u can post here! The coffee is always on and u never know what cyper goodies are around to be sampled. lol
yes, I'm one of those relay oprs. (smile) Did u mean what is my telephone nu? This forum is subscriber only so I don t mind posting it here - ok :) . Laura
This message was edited Sep 9, 2005 11:50 PM
Laura, No, I meant your relay number. You know how it shows up when the first listed the telephone number you are dialing and the relay operators number too. Tho maybe you don't realize that since you are on the other end, lol. You guys are a lifesaver, believe me!
I just got into this Forum due to julie88 asking me about dahlias for daylilies, so was interesting in reading about you guys lifes. I do know a few of you like Molly, which by the way, MOLLY, AM SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR NASTY LANDLORD! That means you have to move you and the plants I sent you, oh dear!!!
If you want to know about food, we all had a neighborhood BBQ where you meet the new neighbors and have a great BBQ and potluck. Since it was raining a bit, we had a fire pit going too.
Well, from our side, or the middle actually, lol, we have the state list of relay nu s that we give to people and the national nu - 711. CSD has contracts with 26 or so states but has nu s in every state. The reason that we may never tell people to dial 711 is cuz if they are in a state that has a contract with another company, the call wld go thru that company, not CSD. Our contract is with Sprint and each individual state, so it gets to be a big of a pain following FCC, Sprint and state rules. Our calls are all routed thru a central clearing center and then drops into the next available's operator's station. I think there we have 12 calls centers with another being built in NJ.
A caller may not request a certain CA (communication assistant) but can request male or female. In some states we are agents, operators or ca's, depending on the state s requirements. If we ever get a call from someone we recognize, either IB (inbound) or OB(outbound) we are required to immediately send 'One Moment Pls' to both parties and call supervisor to have someone else take over the call. U might notice that some of my abbreviations don t show up on ur tty as abbreviations cuz they are automatic expandables and the computer does that for us - saves the fingers! Others are just as u see them here. :) It 's interesting to hear what it looks like from ur end of the phne !!
Very, very interesting!
Oh, I realize that I can't request any certain relay operator, but just wondered if your number came up and I would know it would be you, just a small world, I think.
I know Sprint is the big one for doing this. But I will tell you this, it is a wonderful deal to be able to more or less use the phone again. It isn't perfect but it sure helps!!!
I still say thanks for people like you to do this for all of us.
Carol
oh duh, the brain is in retirement - yes I have an ID nu. I am CA6120. sorry for being so dense! lol Well, the folks who appreciate what we do make up for the scammers and the kids who think it's funny to make the opr say all sorts of disgusting stuff. Ick!
Oh my goodness, are you kidding me? That is terrible and such a waste of time and effort of you guys. To me, you guys are like the police, so stay off the phone unless you are needed.
Ok, your number must be for another area in the US. The numbers I see here are in the 300's.
Thanks, Carol
No, I'm not kidding u, wish I was. Spent over an hour today with a scammer calling shops all over the country. They call over the internet. It's a crime how they are ripping off people every day! The kids are just stupid - they call from their computer to a phone in the same room. We figure them out real fast, we turn up our headsets, then we can hear them typing. As soon as we know for sure, we can call a supervisor and they ll get rid of them. I catch them quite easily by typing 'One moment pls" and not say it and pretty soon the voice person will read the screen and say to another kid, "one moment pls" what s that for? GOTCHA! I guess they're really not kids, usually older teens is my thinking.
As for the nu, maybe CSD doesn t have the OR contract. Our nu s are all 4 digits. If we don't have OR, then u wld have to dial our OR 800 nu to get CSD. If u dial 711, u will get the company that has the OR state contract. Lots of competition in the field now. Hamilton is very aggressive and growing. MCI and ATT are going down in contracts. CSD is also gaining more states.
Well, it looks like someone else is having trouble sleeping. Have beenup for about an hour. My arm is hurting, therefore, no sleep. I could be doing something around the house, but DH is sleeping and don't want to disturb him. The vacuum needs running, but I don't think it would be appropriate at this hour.
Hi Dcat - you still up? I'm too sore to sleep, too. I fell. Of all the things to do, considering the subject matter of this thread lately - you'd think SOME part of me would have been more alert. Oh well. Not much to say about it - just sitting at the 'puter typing, and - crash - my chair disintegrates. Very quick trip to the floor on ye hiney. Sprained same arm again. grrrrrr.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that can just fall standing or sitting still! Haven't lately - knock on wood - but I'm sure another time's a comin'.
:-O
Oh NO! Karen...I sure hope you're ok and that your arm doesn't keep you from doing the things you *want* to do!
Dcat, I think I was just going to sleep when you started posting...it was *very* late (early) when I finally fell asleep this morning. For that last few nights I've had trouble going to sleep...or maybe it's that I'm having trouble staying there. Which ever it is, it sure makes for one groggy head in the morning. (Three or four hours just isn't enough for this GOB, let me tell ya.) I hope you're up in time to get all that fish ready for 'fry'. And I hope you get some relief from all that pain.
DaisyR...how nice to see you here! And, OF COURSE, you're welcome to post in this thread anytime! I wouldn't have known about Kooger's little 'gotcha' if you hadn't posted this time.
Kooger, it never dawned on my that you would/could fall prey to prank/obscene phone calls. How disgusting! But I'm glad you have to way to catch those little brats.
message yadda yadda yadda
McCool...I carry a shoulder bag type purse too. And, MAN, those things are a 'trip' just waiting to happen. Don't bother asking me how I know. LOL
Mary...LOL @ "we're still married". Spouses can be completely insensitive, can't we (ooops! meant to say 'they' - Nahhhh :-) I meant what "we". )
Maria...that kid has SUPER dimples! (He's cute, too!)
Sarv...I've been told that kids don't really 'straighten out' until they get to their 40's. TG Mine are getting to that stage. HAHAHAHA
Robert!!! Now I know why you hang around here! You see us *talk* about food and projects...and then, while we're *thinking* about it, YOU go and *DO* it! LOL LOL LOL (You're making some of us (me!) look really bad!) BTW...your pictures of that bib/bibb are well worth a thousand words. And that peach cobbler was delish!
It's time to 'preview' my post to see if anyone else is typing...sure am glad Dave put those 'new posts' alerts on pages.
Hi BetsyBug! (I'm having a terrible time remembering 'real names' lately in case anyone has noticed. LOL)
That's it for now (I HOPE!) or else I'll be starting another new thread because MY posts are taking too long to load. hehehehe
Have a GREAT one!
~julie~
Julie....I agree about kids finally shaping up about 40.....Mine are all over 40 now and come to think of it, the last few years have been reallllll quiet..
I think what may make them straighten up is that at this age they decide it's time that they do for now they have to start taking care of US........
"Hey gand, we better shape up and learn real quick, we gotta take over now and we better learn a few things!!!"
LOL
Hap
July, yes he has or had the cutest dimples, so did I when I was young but the have become elongated into a fold as I grew old and his have too. When he was little he asked me why he has these holes in his cheeks, said, when you were a baby I took big bites out of them, lol all he said was, Oh
Maria
Good Morning!! Just got back from the first soccer game of the season. DGS played well - bowled over one kid and they both went flying. I asked him if he said he was sorry and he said 'grandma- it's soccer - you don't say you're sorry!' Beautiful weather - soon it will be cold (I remember from years past!)
My boys are 29 and 28, both married now - seem to be doing well, But just when I sit back and relax, the &^^% hits the fan and something major happens. New DIL just told me today that she went off the pill - hmm, new grandbaby coming up I predict!!
They are camping this weekend with our camper and truck. I would love to go out and see them, but no invite was given, so I'll stay home. DH is gonna take the boat out and surprise them. I told him that wasn't a good idea, but he is bull headed and is going anyway. It is absolutely gorgeous weather and perfect for camping. DIL told me this morning that she would like to do a 'major make over ' on the camper - fine with me!! We don't use it anyhow!
My folks came out last night for a game of rummycube. My mom was rummaging in her purse and gave me a folded up check - she said 'this is for your birthday and anny' I had told her I didn't want anything from them- just be with us for fun It was a huge check and now I am so embarassed. I told her I would tear it up and she told me to please not. They are not flush by any means and are so very generous to the grandkids. She wants me to get a new computer as my old mac is very slow...I am tempted just not to cash the check. My DH lost his good job 5 yrs ago and hasn't found a good one yet (and won't at his age), but is working at a very low paying job - with no bennies. But he is not stressed, so I say fine! Big money job was major stress for him. My mom knows we really watch out $$ (sis and bro are very flush...) and she feels bad that we aren't. I've come to terms with it - life deals you a hand and you deal with it. gosh, didn't mean to go on, but I am in a pickle over this...
Listening to my favorite gardening program as I type-just love the radio!
take care all - no falls etc.
Geez, do you mean I have to wait until they are 40 years old before they shape up!!!
Oh dear, that is too long for me, lol!
Sarv, your DH sounds like me. If I want to go do something, I would. And I would be the one to go "surprise" them too, hehe!
Camping in a camper and truck brings back very good memories for me as a kid. We spent years and hours camping every weekend. My mother got so tired of going but keep trouping along. We always went camping for Mother's Day.
Well, off to Farmers Market this morning. Need some identification on some dahlias so... plus they have the greatest cinnamon bread made by this woman. It has both real cinnamon and sugar inside the bread, whereas most people just use cinnamon. It tastes so good toasted!
Carol
SARV48....Accept and use the check! I say this as a 75 year old great grandmother. You can not imagine the pleasure of being able to give a child, or GC or GGC something that they want or need. It's a way of still being a part of a family.
Maybe your mom doesn't have a lot (as you say), but by allowing her to share what she has is priceless.
I was able to give my DD a lawnmower for her birthday...don't laugh, she WANTED it and NEEDED it. Probably a selfish reaction, but it made ME feel so good!!! *smile*
Pati
Hi DaisyR, Now folk will get really confused cos I'm Carol too - though I respond to all sorts! I was born on Christmas Day so I got lumbered otherwise I'd have been Julia after my Gran.
Nice photos of the bib Robert, I would have called it an outside tap, or a barrel tap!! Faucet is a strange word to us English - tap is much easier to spell!!
Well I think my car, otherwise known as Burt, is related to Sarv. He doesn't like going to the doc/dentist!! Its around 18 miles to the garage - 3 miles before I got there he stopped ticking. Well I knew there was no point going in with no symptoms, done that once already, so went to the big mall about 5 miles further on instead. Logic here - don't waste the gas, just spend extra $$$ instead!
After I was done I started him up and the tick was back, so I set off back to the garage. This time I was around 200 yds short when he quit ticking. I gave up and set off home, 5 miles up the road he started again. He was at it all the way back. Aaargh!!
Talking of graceful landings my last major effort was in the UK, at a dog show, it had been raining fit to bust all the night before. I went round the back of the car to let the dog out, having reversed in, with a grass slope behind the car, to save getting him out on the wet and oily road. Opened the tailgate, and this must have changed the direction of pressure from my feet, because the turf I was standing on slid gently down the slope and under the car. I followed, walloping my arm on the kerb as I went down and under my own car!!
The dog, bless him, was angelic and didn't leap out and charge off, he leant over the edge and "kissed'' me better - looking some what surprised!
Of course I was 80 miles from home and alone with the dog. Well I broke open my first aid kit, strapped up the now throbbing arm, showed the dog and started the drive home. (Cars in the UK are generally not automatic, and we drive on the left hand side of the road so we sit the other side of the car.) It was the left arm, which in a right hand drive car is the gear change arm, by the time I got to the main road I was in agony, so I went back all the way in 3rd gear - in a 5 gear car- must have really improved the engine.
I took my self direct to casualty (ER) - the arm was broken in 3 places, so they plastered it up. I then had to drive myself the 10 miles home with my gear arm in plaster. I put the car in 3rd again with my right arm before I let th clutch out and it stayed there. itook a really weird rout to avoid the traffic lights too. Fortunately we lived "in the sticks' so I was heading away from the town and it was Sunday so it was quiet.
Bet the dog had a real laugh with his mates when we eventually got home. DH's reaction - oh heck, what have you done THIS time, hows the car? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still have trouble with that arm - arthritis in the thumb and wrist joints.
Enjoy the laugh guys.
Carol

I was so long typing that that the world has been in and posted. Sarv, she'll be offended if you don't take it. she wouldn't have done it if they couldn't afford it, the check would have been smaller. take the gift and think of Mum and Dad every time you use it.
Daisy - Kids - they get civilised in their mid to late 30s - well mine did, some more than others though!
Carol
Something went awry in my tribe, the older two got real mature, real fast, and have always been super responsible leading me to the conclusion that they took all the Maturity Genes and left none for the younger sister who at 45 still gives me gray hair.
Carol I almost fell off my chair at your dog show adventure, I have to share it with my DD, with your permission. She attended a show a few years back where it was held indoors and for some strange reason they had laid sod over the flooring, maybe to make it look more attractive....but the sod was damp, and with all the people walking over it and showing dogs in the circle, it soon got squishy and slippery and started sliding around, sending handlers, dogs and breedings pitching and yawing every which way. She came home cursing and muttering, "I paid to do this???!!"
Kooger, we miss seeing you but we'll take whatever time you can spare. Unbelievable you are still having to deal with red tape on your status. Those gov't wheels don't grind that slow when they want to look at your tax records....hope it all comes to an end soon.
Went out for breakfast (at Last!!) and stopped a two locations of a local garden chain. Got 5 rock cress sedum for $4 each, another Russian sage, six lilies, some ceramic gift items marked down 75%, a strawberry jar, two gorgeous zone 5 hardy hibiscus, and a big Oregon Hydrangea, for a total of $120 bucks. Got 'em all parked in the shade because I don't think they'd be real happy to go in the ground today, it's so hot.
Sarv, take the check and recognize that it was a gift of love from people that you do so much for, impromptu dinners, as in and help with their needs. They will be so hurt if you don't accept their generosity.
Then be sure to tell them how much you enjoyed spending it, just as you enjoy sharing your table and camper with them.
Gonna go put some water on the new babies, before they get moved to a shady spot...think I done good??
M5 not a bad haul there!
Yes by all means share with your DD - She will appreciate the need to carry on and show the dog anyway!!
Carol
I'm just checking back in to get up to date on this "situation" here.
The landlord wanted to sit down with me and his wife to discuss this either yesterday or today. Seems he was too busy last evening and today he's out on his boat.
Having had an extra couple days to think about this and talk to a couple people on my "legal?" position here, I have come to the conclusion that I have no position at all. Leases are made to benefit the landlord only and there is no real protection for the tenant. He can break a lease with only 30 days notice and in addition to that he can assess the tenant for any additional taxes he may incur.
So contrary to my first gut reaction of asking for a 6 month lease, I am not going to ask for anything. I paid an equivalent of 3 months rent for damage, pet deposits and last months rent when I signed the lease 8/2004. No doubt he has spent that money. So I anticipate I will be out of here and gone by 12/31. I found out today that his tax problem is of his own making as he was benefiting from 2 homestead exemptions on two alleged primary residences (you are only allowed one) and his deception with the county has caught up to him.
I have always been an independant person but over the past few years I allowed myself to "lean on" others promises and became soft with their claims of good intentions. In the end, when I get knocked to the ground, I have only myself to pick me up and move on.
So that's what I shall do. I don't know how I will manage it because looking at things as a whole, all the necesary tasks feel overwhelming.
Up by Gainesville, I have property with nothing on it, no house, no well, no sewer. I will be moving to a place to start a new life and business with few, if any, contacts. I reckon I will manage, but it's gonna be tough.
Hopefully the landlord won't do anything else to bring difficulties my way.
BTW, I checked into other rentals of very small houses and found rents have almost doubled in the past year. Not an option to find another place locally. It's just way to expensive to live here anymore.
Molly
Oh, Molly, I'm sorry to hear that you will be moving for sure. I wish we didn't all live so far away so at least we could help with moving boxes or digging plants to move to a new place. At least you have a bit of time.
No rain here but the mountains on both sides of us have their first snow. No wonder the wind was so chilly yesterday. Today is warmer and I have a load of towels drying on the clothesline in the breeze.
My hubby took us out to breakfast this morning and then when we walked into the grocery store there stood our son and daughter-in-law getting a Starbucks coffee before heading to Boise (about 125 miles) to buy her some comfortable shoes for her waitress job. We don't have much for shoes here, just discount store stuff and she needs to have better ones than that. I told her to look for nurses shoes. She works at a restaurant where there is a cute little model train that runs on a track that goes all the way around inside the restaurant. I like to go in just to watch the train, but their prices are high and so I seldom go to eat. It is near the freeway so their business comes mostly from travelers. The locals know they can get coffee for about half price at other places around town. Hope she doesn't get laid off this winter when the weather gets bad for traveling, she would probably be first on the list since she just got hired about 2 weeks ago.
I have some spareribs thawing/baking in the oven. I just put them in at about 300 for a couple of hours then turn the heat up to about 350 to brown them. I think I will dig some red potatoes and get a cabbage from the garden to go with them. I didn't think about sauerkraut this morning when we were at the store but that came to mind when I pulled the ribs out of the freezer. Oh well.....
Ok, gotta get something done. Weeds need pulling, I've got one flower bed that is worse than the others so that's the one.
Well sh** Molly = excuse my *french* - but man that makes me mad. But, maybe this will turn out to be a good thing - lets hope anyway.
Not much else to say - I'm watering stufff like mad to keep it alive (no rain since Katrina and HOT). Just hanging in there barely. So - I'll just say hi and bye - see ya later!

MaryE....hi...
FYI on shoes for your DIL.....I am a retired executive chef and have spent many hours on cement kitchen floors....My salvation were Reboks, DMX. There are several "models", but the ones I used and still do, are the Max DMX walking shoes...they are not cheap; here they run, (no pun intended) about $65 a pair...The last couple of years I took out their insole and added the "gel" thingys. I could tell when my shoes were wearing our because my back would start to scream. Good luck to her.
Molly, I am so sorry for what you are going through. Things could change or mellow, so don't make any hasty decisions.
Sarv, I agree with the rest....take the check and give a kiss. I am at that point with my children too. I don't have millions, but I know that I can't take it with me. So I have figured, I might as well give them some now so I can SEE them enjoy it. I took my eldest son and his family to Disney World last year and I got to go too....so I enjoyed myself and enjoyed treating them to a good time. I always told my father, who worried about everything, to spend his money, for when it came time, he would have the same doctors and be in the next bed at the nursing home from someone who saved all his money for "When He Got Old!!!!!!) Well, that is just what happened.. He and my DM went and stayed 6 weeks in Spain, went every year to FL for 3-4 months and enjoyed themselves. That makes me feel so happy. He earned it, he should have spent it and he did. Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy for Daddy.
Well, I know you're saying that she never posts and then gets on a soap box....so I will say good-nite.....say good-nite, Gracie......

Good night, Gracie! LOL There's verification that we are GOBs!
DS made an offer on the house they liked, and it was accepted. Now they can go through the gut crunching torture of selling, waiting, etc. I'm giving them a chunk of change too, because houses they had been looking at were almost as small as theirs (450 sq. ft!!) but had basements and garages, which they don't have. I told them I didn't want to see them get into one that they would "outgrow" in a few years and have to do it all over again, so this helped bump them up into bigger houses. What am I going to do with it? It's nice to have a cushion but we are comfortable and I'd rather see two very nice people happy in their new home. He had asked before if we could help, and I refused, but I rethought it, and decided it was better to just go ahead and dole it out while I'm alive. Besides that I can donate all my excess "stuff" that is sitting unused....LOL
Oh Molly, you really are in a bind. Drat that selfish kid anyway. If he thinks he's going to walk away with a pocket full of change, he'll be surprised at the tax on selling a home that is not your primary residence. Even if he lives in it, if any part of it provides rental income, that square footage will be taxed as capital gains. Property in Florida has skyrocketed, I don't envy you the hunt for another place. Like Mary said, it's too bad we aren't closer, we could be extra hands to help.
Company for dinner, fresh corn on the cob, bratwurst/buns, sliced heavenly tomatos, german and american potato salad from the deli that was just simply awful. Need to do that occasionally so DH knows how good he has it when I do the cooking! All cleaned up, and ready to read the early edition of the Sunday paper. So.....say
Good night, Gracie............... Good night!
Ahhh, I get a good social break tomorrow! Bud is coming over to take me to brunch in a restaurant about 30 miles away that has a great brunch reputation. I could use a decent Bloody Mary (or even a Bloody Shame) and a good meal.
