hortensia, what happens when you try to upload them? Do you get a timeout message, or something else?

Hi Terry
when I try to post I get the following message on preview.

ewww. That looks really yucky. Lemme have Dave take a look ;o)

Marian,

That error usually happens when the image wasn't uploaded at all, or if it's in a wrong format.

Please tell me what size (file size) the image is and also what kind of file (gif? Jpeg? Tiff?)

Hi Dave
here is all the info (I think) you want
the file is
324 k
384 w x 284h pixels
5.33w x4"h a 72 p/i
jpeg
cropped w Adobe Photoshop
on a mac os9

I have in the past had problems with images not emailing because I accidentally left them as photoshop but this is definitely a jpeg.

I also wondered if others had problems uploading this way from a mac, but it acted fine otherwise.
thx
Marian

We have lots of Mac users and none of them have reported problems uploading images like this.

Have you attempted another image upload since then? Please try it with a different image and in a different place.

Hi Dave

Have tried another image from my old camera since this reply and it was fine; tried a few others from the new one as far as in preview, they were fine too. No idea what is up with this image; so I'll just take some more of my unknown green.

thanks so much for your attention to this

final discovery

it turns out that any image has to have .jpg on the end before it will upload. I always rename my pics so I know what I am looking at and, having a mac, dispense with that little tag. Never knew before that some systems can't recognize a file as an image without the suffix.

I am told by my resident computer whiz that he knew this all along. Could have told me.

Didn't

figured it out for myself.

but I mention it in case someone else has the same problem at some time.

Actually, that's not correct (please tell your computer whiz that we don't rely on file extensions but rather a combination of mime-types, EXIF data and file format. The ImageMagick library is what I use to process incoming images.

Here's an image upload that is simply called "image" (no extension).

OK
now i AM at a loss -- images that I had renamed eg:green compositae would not upload. when I re-renamed them green compositae.jpg they uploaded fine -- NO other changes.

I won't tell my computer expert anything snarky, thanks. I've been living with him for 25 years now, and I do this by respecting his expertise in his field as he respects mine in mine.

and, natch, as I respect you in yours. this whole wonderful forum and the engines that run it. I guess it is just a wrinkle of some kind to do with the interface(s) of lumix, photoshop and....

all I know for sure, at the end of the day is adding .jpg uploads the stubborn.
