Cuttings I will have come the end of October or sooner.....

Laurens, SC(Zone 8a)

Ok those who still owe me cuttings--if they are not rooted it might be best if you mail them for me to receive around Nov 10th--rooted for me or not. Hmmm.... was thinking might not be a good idea to leave a bunch of cuttings to root for the entire month I'll be gone. Some might rot and I won't be there to check on them. Ok-well, it will work out I imagine, one way or another!! Thanks all!! Bonnie 10/6/05

I will be going away in a couple weeks to do some truck driver training so those (most of you) who have yet to mail my end of our trades need to do so before Oct 20th or after Nov 10th. Thanks!! DH has no clue and I would find them all dead upon my return if they come while I am gone!! It is my aim and goal to mail out the remainder of trades that I owe before I leave.

Bonnie

THIS THREAD IS CLOSED NOW!! There will be another one started once the dust settles from this one for any remainers!! Check back in another month or two?!! Thanks all!! Bonnie

I am expecting to have these cuttings this year for postage, trade for something I do not have yet or sale on ebay:
NOTE: The the photos, etc in the links provided are NOT mine!!

~~**NOTE NOTE NOTE**~~
Due to the fact that we were already struggling to get by before the gas crises caused by Hurricane Katrina I will have to mail a couple of these out at a time. Do not know how often I will be able to get to the PO since it is becoming a choice between gas or food these days and will be trying to squeeze out $10 a week or every other week to mail my end of these swaps. I do NOT want to cancel any--just may be later than 15 Sept before I can mail my end for most of these. Plan to mail 2-3 packages at a time if possible. I will try to let you know when your package has been mailed!! Anyway I did want to wait as long as possible before doing cuttings since I am hoping that more of them will flower this year. It doesn't start to get cold here til end of October or early November.

Bonnie, the ones that you grew from seeds are not the named varieties, they are seedlings. Since they don't come true from seed, anything is possible. You can still trade them, just describe it as Canary Bird seedling, or Tahitian Wedding Bells seedling.

hmm wouldn't you have to call it a canary bird X unk seedling? I mean.. since you don't know what it pollinated with? Just asking, stil ltrying to get the wheretos and whyfors straight :)

Laurens, SC(Zone 8a)

You are exactly correct. The correct way to identify my seedlings IS Canary Bird x unknown and Tahitian Wedding Bells x unknown--however not everyone has Multiply hybrids so not always crosses. I have no idea whether these seedlings will be new hybrids due to crosses or not. So yes--the people trading for the Canary Bird and Tahitian Wedding Bells seedling cuttings will be getting an actual unknown. May look like the pure Canary Bird/Tahitian Wedding Bells or they may look vey different!!

As of today--September 1, 2005 this is what remains to be traded:

19 10" cuttings of Dr Suess
8 10" cuttings of Frosty Pink
1 10" cutting of Tahitian Wedding Bells x unknown seedling
3 8" cuttings of Fantasma (aka Shredded White)
1 8" cutting of Charles Grimaldi

Thanks soo much!! I am still looking for Bambine, Golfito (maybe can trade with DonnaB--talked to her about it earlier in the year, but....she is in Ocean Springs, MS and probably doesn't have a home much less Brugs anymore! Hope she is ok--don't think I have heard anything from her or about her yet!! Anyone know??), Temple Goddess, Tragedy and Twisted Sister cuttings but if all these planned trades go through I will have managed to collect almost ever single Brug I have ever wanted in ONE season!! Thank you all sooooo much!! God Bless!!

Bonnie

Laurens, SC(Zone 8a)

Assuming I wait to do cuttings until sometime between Oct 1-15, when do you want your cutting?? Do you want me to root it (them) or do you want to root it yourself? For the people getting Dr Suess or Frosty Pink I can do those cuttings NOW!! Turns out I have 3 Frosty Pink in the ground (only need one) and Dr Suess has 4 stalks in full bloom but one which is not budded at all I can cut now. The ones I would like to wait and see if they flower this year first are:

Butterfly
Strawberry Cream

So actually all the rest can be cut now. Anyway, it would be helpful to know when you would like your cutting and whether or not I need to root it for you. If unrooted, do you mind regular mail? I don't mind so long as they are package properly. I package mine the same either way:

Wrap end (or roots) in wet paper towel, wrap this in Press N Seal Wrap to seal in the moisture then wrap in newspaper and place inside a plastic grocery bag--contains any possible leaks without smothering the plant. Unrooted can be mailed in bubble envelope or box.

Hopefully I can figure this out! hehehe And not confuse myself too bad! Thanks!

I would love some burg cuttings for postage, I had a few babies but lost them all when I had my stroke, am looking for any cutting for postage please let me know.

Bonnie,

I would be interested in exchanging for dr suess nd charles grimaldi. I have golfito and sunray you ar looking for.

Dott

Laurens, SC(Zone 8a)

emh48--I will have LOTS of Dr Suess and Frosty Pink cuttings available. Most of the rest have been claimed. You can get one of each for $5 in postage I think.

dottnmd--I just got Sunray--won it in a bid at Ebay but still looking for Golfito. Would love to trade one for the Golfito and let you have the other for postage?! LMK. Will have LOTS of the Dr Suess!! My plant has 5 very tall stalks!! Four stalks are on their 3-4th flush and the 5th is getting tiny little buds now.

Our first frost date here is somewhere between Oct 8-15 so will be doign cuttings probably no later than Oct 1 after all!! waaaaa Most of my Brugs have not yet flowered and probably won't this year. Hoping to see them all bloom next year!!

Bonnie

Laurens, SC(Zone 8a)

I lost the bid for the Island Girl cuttings so am still looking for this. Won't die if I don't get them of course but.......hehehe

Bonnie

Hagerstown, MD(Zone 6b)

Bonnie,

Sounds good to me. Our first frost is close to yours so I will most likely be cutting back at the same time also. Everything is flushing now. D-mail me. Thanks

Dott

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

great, I will send you the 5.00 dollars.is your address in the exchange?

thanks
Elva

Laurens, SC(Zone 8a)

Yep--address IS in the exchange!! Bonnie

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

great I will send right out ! Thank you so much !
Elva

Laurens, SC(Zone 8a)

Ok....here is the schedule I am planning (and hoping to be able to stick to):

mailed this am--9/9 meag848
picabo

9/16 kareoke
2pugdogs

9/23 Nan
juttz

10/7 bettydee

Those who are getting their cuttings via postage, please mail your postage so I can get your cuttings to you ASAP!! I have some Dr. Suess cuttings rooted already but the rest I will mail unrooted to save the time it takes for you to get your cuttings. To root (if you never have and need to know) just stick the bottom of your cutting (s) into a couple inches of water and keep in warm, but not hot location and they should root in a couple of weeks (2-3 at most). Not too deep of water though or they will rot. Also, keep the water fresh either with a bubbler system (sandstone and pump from fish aquarium works nicely and not too expensive) or changing water every couple of days--or when it starts to look a little cloudy)!!

Bonnie

dottnmd--I do not have any more Charles G. I forgot I need to hold a cutting back in case I lose my plant in ground over Winter. Sorry!! And I already have Sunray anyway. In fact, if the cuttings I have root I have 2 at least to trade, sell!!

kathyvm--I still need your address!!

Thanks all!!

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Just wanted to make a suggestion for the gas/trip to post office thing. I bought a postage scale at my local office supply store. Now I weigh my packages at home and it shows me the weight and postage needed and I use USPS as well to calculate postage by using the To and From Zip Codes and weight. I keep a supply of postage on hand, which you can order and have delivered by the way, and just place the package on my front step for my mailman to pickup. I try not to give him too many at a time. He parks just one door down though and can quickly load them into his truck before proceeding.

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Bonnie,
Since we are exchanging cuttings, do you still want postage? I picked up some small triangular priority boxes from the post office and was planning on sending the cutting priority mail next time I go into town. Will that be OK?
Veronica

Laurens, SC(Zone 8a)

Calif_Sue==good tip, can't afford the scale or postage in advance though. Many times can barely afford it at the time I need to mail something. hehehe Something maybe I can do if/when I ever am employed again!! (Gone through LOTS of unemployment since 1994 when I got out of the Air Force!! Some of them very long--longest was 4 years!!!)

bettydee--this is a trade not SASE so NO postage is not required?!! hehehe However did you see that I will not be able to mail yours til October 7th though??! Money is tight arround here unless God finally has mercy on me and allows me to finally get a job!!

Bonnie

Laurens, SC(Zone 8a)

I have now 4 unknown cuttings to trade or for SASE as well. I believe them to be Frosty Pink or Dr Suess but either I forgot to label them or the label has been run off with by some critter?! And I have 2-3 Sunray cuttings to trade or for SASE as well.

I have gone ahead and cut all but 1 Frosty Pink and my Dr Suess plants and now have the cuttings in water to root. So all will get rooted cuttings if at all possible. I certainly hope next year my plants do better and ALL flower.

I found that I have 3-4 Frosty Pink plants in the ground but only want/need one so for anyone who wants a plant--well rooted from the soil I will trade either for another plant from the ground or will accept SASE of $10, I think-to cover postage and a little extra for a mature plant. All of these are at least 2 yr old plants. Ok?? Or I will sell on ebay, no problem. Probably will have to try to unload the huge number of Dr Suess cuttings I will have this year on ebay anyway!! hehehe

Bonnie

Hagerstown, MD(Zone 6b)

Bonnie,

I would love to exchange my golfito cuttings for some dr suesse. Let me know how many cuttings you would like to exchange for. I have a couple of golfito plants.

Dott

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

That's OK, Bonnie. I'll send yours Monday. You can mail mine in October. I don't mind waiting.

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

I send my 5.00hope you get it soon, not picky on cuttings since I lost all of mine I was rooting when I got sick. Thanks so much for sharing your burgs with me.

elva

Kittrell, NC(Zone 7b)

Bonnie, got mine today!!! Will send your soon, I have unexpected company. Plus I wanted to see how you sent it. I've never sent a cutting through the mail. Another thing on rooting, my mother, who could stick a dead limb in the ground and make it grow, tells me to add 1/2 tsp of hydrogen peroxide to a quart of water. Use this to water for rooting. I've never heard other people doing it, but have seen her do it for years. Needless to say my fantasma is now sitting in it. Who knows it doesn't hurt to try does it?
Thanks so much.
Melanie

Laurens, SC(Zone 8a)

meag848--I don't see why it wouldn't work. People have different ways of rooting. Some things root better in soil, some better in water, some air layering, some use charcoal to root Brugs, some use a bubbler system. Seems to be so long as you get roots, doesn't really matter how you did it?!! hehehe I usually root the cuttings before mailing. Sorry!! I feel better about making sure they are rooted first so I will not need to replace a cutting that might rot!!

Laurens, SC(Zone 8a)

The way I package mine ever since I tried Press N Seal Wrap since it first came out is:

I wet paper towel to wrap around the bottom (roots) (and/ot newspaper wet if the roots are huge), then wrap the wet material with a sheet of Press N Seal Wrap and twist it at the top to lock in moisture--then wrap the packaged plants/cuttings in newspaper and place inside a plastic grocery bag and wrap handles around and tie loosely then place this bundle inside the box or bubble envelope and mail. Has worked marvelously for me and cuttings/plants that ordinarily might have a difficult time making it in the mail seem to (by all accounts so far) come thtough with flying colors--still moist and the package not wet!! Hope this helps someone!! Bonnie

Laurens, SC(Zone 8a)

Also, waiting for postage from:

kc8Icw--rooting/will be ready soon--do you want to root them yourself?
Raingazer--have to start more Dr Suess cuttings rooting this weekend as the others are gone now unless you want to root them yourself??

dstart--haven't heard back from you yet/agreement or no??
emh48--got message today you have mailed, rooting for you
Yardbird--what ones do you want?? Do you want to root them yourself or me to do it??

I actually prefer to root them prior to mailing so I will be sure to not need to replace rotten cuttings--have no extras to spare except of Dr Suess and Frosty Pink.

Bonnie

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Bonnie,
I couldn't get to the post office with the Creamsicle on Monday. Since I don't want it to spend the weekend at the post office, I'll mail it next Monday. Thanks for the Press N Seal Wrap idea. I don't like the stuff and have been trying to think of ways to use it up.
Veronica

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

Bonnie,
I don't have anything to trade, but would be more than happy to send check or MO for any type of brug since I'm just starting.
Thanks,
Sharon

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

do you by chance still have a frosty and a shreded white for postage?? if i am not too late.

Laurens, SC(Zone 8a)

bettydee--that is fine!

stownes--$5 postage will get you a Frosty Pink and a Dr Suess rooted cutting. I like them to be rooted before I mail so it is far less likely I will need to replace rotten cuttings!! I have all my cuttings rooting right now. They should be ready in 2-3 weeks at the latest. Please dmail me if this is fine for you--I will add you to the list at that time!!

imzadi--I do still have a Frosty Pink available but no more Shredded White since the ones I bought from ebay rotted instead of rooting and I had to ask for a refund. You are local so I can probably mail one cutting to you for about $2 regular mail. Or for a Priority Mail cost $4 I can send you a Dr Suess and a Frosty Pink? LMK dmail me please.

Postage has been received from:

dianec1781 9/10
ilovejesus99 9/14
emh48 9/15

If I do not hear back from dstartz before Monday I will have to give her a cutting instead of the plant I was planning on. The roots are in water so needs to be mailed ASAP!!

Picabo--I received my package from you and I am sooooo happy!! Thank you sooo much!! The NBC still has it's bud!! Now I have something to compare the ones I already had to. The one I already had grew a new leaf this year but doen't look like the one with the bud so it would seem it does not plant to bloom anytime soon?! Thank you soooo much!! I am overjoyed with my end!! God Bless and enjoy your cuttings!
