So...we know what Rosita looks like...and almost what Christina looks like (she would be cuter without the white letters across her face, wouldn't she?). How about we post a picture of ourselves and a bit about us????
OK - YOU FIRST!
The Swedes started it....
Ok, will get the new Nikon out later...DH is playing music for money tonight and he is requesting my presence even though I would rather stay home with my nose in a book....gotta go..
Susan
Hmmmm, it took me about a week to figure out how to post in here. I should have my picture posted in about a year, maybe sooner if I can figure out how to do that. Yes I am challenged, I admit it.
'SeeZee! You can DO it girlfriend!!
Took this yesterday morning with my girls. They are sisters, Thelma (the black one) and Louise (the other). Part Chesapeake Bay Retriever/Lab Mix - . DH and I are retired, both 65 and in denial about it. We settled here after sailing for 6 years in the South Pacific. In another life I was in Sales for a high end Printing Company...retired to go sailing and just in time...it became totally digital and I was getting lost. I love to paint (watercolours) when not gardening (99% of the time)on our 12 acres. Coffee picking is coming up soon - UGH! We also have 2 cats: Boo (who thinks he's a dog) and Spooker, his sister, whom we never see because she's afraid of everything except me. Both are black. Bob and Boo are alone here amongst the women (and they love every minute of it). Edited to say that the white blob on Thelma's face is light (it is 8:00a.m.)....my white blob is white hair!!!

Carol---ONE thing I need to Know ?????? Is that the 42 ??????????? HEEEEE-----HEEEEEE
Sandy...you scoundrel...YES!
Marcy...having shared with you the near death situation with your hoyas...it is great to see the face on the other end. What a beautiful beautiful baby...looks like a teeny doll.
I love tans...the wrinkles and the cellulite look so much better!!!
Actually, I prefer out of focus pictures...they do a lot more!
Carol
Here is a picture of me with my husband, Dave. It was taken Christmas eve last year. I'm 37 years old. I've been married for three years (actually Oct 5th will make it three years). I was a hairstylist for 15 years, but I HATED so much, that dh let me quit and become a full time homemaker. That is part of why I got interested in plants. He has a grown daughter, but I have no human children. Only cats. Many, many cats. lol
I posted a picture of me and my 18 year old son, Brad. This was taken at my 50th Birthday party, which was a 70's theme. (to explain the tie dye and jewelry)
To support my plant habit and family, I work for the State as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. I am currently working with people who have aquired tramatic brain injures or who have had strokes. I offer counseling and guidance and coordinate services for these individuals to assit them in entering or returning to work. I am reminded on a daily basis how quickly life can pull the rug out from under our feet and have developed a new appreciation for each and every blessing I am granted.
Gardening is my passion and I am lucky to have a supportive partner in Paul who puts up with my obsession and enables my habit. Brad is my one and only kid and he starts college next week leaving me to wonder where the time has gone! We have 2 dogs, Uggie and Rags, and a psychotic cat named Ozzie who found us and determined we were good enough to take care of him.
I also like to do some crafting and sewing, but, only in the winter when I can't be outside in the garden. In the winter I spend all of my free time in my sunroom, which thanks to Paul, has a lean too, add on greenhouse that is always packed from top to bottom with too many exotic and tropical plants.
Great to meet everyone!!!
Wow...what a great thread this is. We now can not only put a NAME next to the posts, but we are all getting to know each other face to face. Neat!! I have often wondered what many of the people I see posting on these forums look like. It is like reading a book, having images in your mind, & then seeing the movie.
Guess I could also tell you that besides plants, I have 1 African Gray parrot, 2 chocolate labs (Molly & Megan), 1 huge male golden retriever (Shiloh), 3 miniature schnauzers (Candy, Casper, and Kola), one rescued cat (Mia), tortoises-(6 African sulcatas, 3 Russian, 8 Greek, 3 Redfoot, & 3 African leopards), 12 Mali uromastyx lizards, 3 adult kids, and 8 grandchildren ages 6 months to 19 yrs. (Christmas here is WILD)
I used to also raise chinchillas and birds but no longer have those. I work part time in sales, and part time babysitting grandkids.
Come to think of it.....it is a wonder I have time to even EAT. Ha.
Marcy
WOW - I love waking up and meeting friends!! Great photos and 'blurbs'... c'mon, Ann, inquiring minds want to know about you, too. Maybe we can keep this thread up at the top to keep referring to it when we write...then it will be more like a chat!
Marcy...you run a zoo!! What fun! Who wouldn't kill for Christina's hair, eh? Mel...I can't believe Brad is SO tall and grown up...I am still wearing his shorts you gave me!!! Ann, with your dimples you just light up the page. jdee - you glow with happiness, too - handsome DH!
Well...off to the Market to see what goodies I can find...hopefully some spinach!
Carol
Hey all, we are having problems trying to send a picture to our computer! I have to get going to work, I will post a face tomorrow! Sorry! Have a great evening, you all look fantastic!
~Heather
Oh, Carol, I currently live the most dull of lives.
OK, so inquiring minds want to know ... I am in graduate school at the University of Oregon working on a sociology Ph.D. (for those of you that get excited about that, let me just tell you a monkey could do this. It's not about brains, its about being stubborn, anal, and willing to submit to a feudalistic hierarchy to get it). I am currently studying to see if there is a difference between how war/occupation is presented in newspapers now versus during the Vietnam Era. If anybody is interested media & censorship issues there is a new book coming out in September (it's one of a series that is put out every year) called Project Censored 2006 by Seven Stories Press (they even let me write a chapter on the Federal Communications Commission for this one...). I really enjoy teaching classes! I have taught Race, Class, Ethnicity; Political Sociology; Social Inequality; Social Stratification, and lots of introductory theory and methods classes.
Meanwhile, my therapy is growing hoyas - much cheaper than paying a human to tell you that the feudalistic hierarchy of academia is bad for your mental health (lol). It truly is wonderful to wake up in the morning and watch the sun shine on all the variety of leaves.
This is a great thread...I love being able to put faces with names.
I was born and raised in Texas, then moved to Tennessee about 6 years ago. I've been married to my wonderful DH nearly 22 years and, although I don't have children of my own, I have two wonderful grown step daughters, no grandchildren yet. I used to work as a legal secretary for one of the major oil corporations, then moved into the systems department doing systems support and training. I haven't worked since moving to TN (can't get employment if you aren't looking, lol!). For the last few years I've been volunteering at a local nursing home, I've taken up sewing again now that I have time, and my neighbor and I enjoy going to garage sales when the weather is nice. To us, it's more of a social activity because we enjoy all the people we meet. And, of course, I enjoy gardening and my inside plants (mostly hoyas now!).
Edited: Ooops! Forgot to resize the pic....didn't mean for you to be able to see all the freckles and wrinkles, lol!!

Okay, this is the best I could get the dogs to cooperate! Boo is the big guy, rot/pit cross. Shminka is the little one, boston terrier. I am the human!
~Heather
Sorry, forgot to tell you about me! Well I'm 31, gemini, married(a leo),obviously very into astrology, two dogs, two cats and I am a bartender. My husband works with me, although he is sober, has been for ten years. He's a door guy, a very good one at that! He also is an oil painter. Honestly, he reminds me a little of VanGough(sp?) Even the crazy part! Lol!! Hmm..transplanted here from Los Angeles, originally from Nebraska. I love tatoos, have them all over! Easy to get caught up in when family members work in the business. Ssshh..my hair is originally dark brown!

What a great looking group of Hoya addicts and a great thread. It really is fun to put faces with names.
Sharon, your smile is contagious!
Great pictures everyone!! Its wonderful to meet you all.
This is me last Christmas. I'm 52, a legal assistant, working in commercial litigation (23 years). I'm on my third DH, got it right this time. I have two daughters (Stephanee and Dawn) and nearly four grandchildren (Emma, Nicolas, Nicholas and a little girl due in 3 weeks) and two very spoiled cats (Lily and Lupin - sisters, both calicoes). Gardening is a good de-stressor for me. Until we bought this house 4 years ago, I never gardened outside, but have had tropical plants for at least 25 years. I was really surprised that it worked for me outside too! Its amazing what regular watering can accomplish ... lol.
Christine
Sharon...your smile is fabulous...your whole face smiles!
Heather, I talked to Ed today and told him about you. When I mentioned the tatoo he said "HO...sounds like my kinda chick". NOT.He might drop in to your work one Sunday...look for a 6'8" tall thin hunkahunka.
CeeDub - if you are 52 I must be seeing things....you no more look 52! So young!!!
Gosh, this IS fun! Come on...download thos pictures.!!!... Awanda...where are you girl?
Carol
Carol you know what they say about "age before beauty" so I was waiting:-). Anywho here I am. As everyone probably knows by now I am 55 and "Preacher's Wife" and darn happy about it! I've always had plants, but no hoyas until 3 years ago, and now I am a full-fledge, card carrying holic-holic with a small (8x8) over flowing greenhouse, soon to have an 8x12 over flowing greenhouse.
Blessings to everyone (there's that "b" word again:-)
Awanda aka Preacher's Wife
Awanda---You are an ANGEL.................Or should I say PREACHER'S WIFE you are an ANGEL!!!!!! Just wondering if our friend on the Big ISLAND is blowing steam or laughing her back side off.......
Your pic is beautiful................Sandyc
That Awanda - try as I might, never can match her great tan!!! Sandy, Awanda IS beautiful!!
OK, Nightbloomer - where are you?
Sandyc what a nice thing to say, thank you! Carol you know the funny thing about my "tan" is I just had to "tan" one time and it became permanent!! Must be this Arizona sunshine:-).
Blessings,
Awanda
This can't be all of us here?!!
Come on guys and girls! I hate revealing my photo in public, but now that I have done so I want to see ALL OF YOU!
Christina
One thing about having to "pay" to be in here is that we can rest assured that only other paying DG people can see & read the threads. Therefore we know only plant loving people like ourselves can see these. We are all among "birds of a feather" in here. I have no problem posting a picture in that kind of enviroment.
Here's another of me with Megan, my lab.
Marcy
Great post!!! Very nice to see how a lot of you look like.
About me humm....I'm so not good at this. I was born in the Azores Portugal and moved to the USA in 1978. Lived mostly in Boston and now I live mostly in Florida but keep and apartment in Boston for get ways......when the Florida heat gets to me. I'm a busy guy. Too many interests to keep me still. I'm a microbiologist at a childrens hospital and I identify bacteria, viruses and fungi. I'm also an artist and plant fanatic. Hoyas got my interest a couple of years ago. But I also collect orchids aroids and sansevierias.
And you grow beautiful plants, Ric!!!
Carol
Wow, what fun! Everyone looks wonderful and it's so nice to put a face to my plant buddies! Great idea Carol!
I am 46, a landscape designer and a dedicated HoyaHolic. Besides hoyas I am addicted to perennials, Epiphyllum, Christmas Cactus, succulents.....I had better stop or this will be too long....suffice to say I am addicted to the plant kingdom. I am married; have a 9 year old daughter and a 22 year old son; Sonny (the wonder lab) our black lab; Darby our cat (who loves to play fetch) and a tank full of tropical fish....OH! and the little koi pond I just put in the ground (have yet to place the plantings!). No doubt about it, I need to stop working so many hours so I can have more time for hobbies and fun! You all do such interesting things!
Karen :~D
Here's me...(oops! Goober me...my pic is on my work computer, will add it in the morning! LOL)

Vilde, what a great picture! Wow, I just love seeing everyone's face! I know I'm repeating myself, but it really is exciting!
~Heather
I finally finished the housework, laundry, and gathering clothing for the hurricane victims. So, here I am out in the garden this afternoon. Guess I could have kept both my eyes open...
I've been a plant and flower lover since I was a small child. Used to plant petunias with Grandma. I'm 51 and still a rebel. I fake maturity every day by putting on my professional face where I spend way too much time (all day and sometimes all night) keeping computers and software up and running.
4 cats, 2 dogs, 2 sons, 1 DH.....Photos of the dears to follow.....
I've been growing the hoya for about 4 years now having been bitten by the H. compacta I picked up on a whim. Didn't even know it was a hoya until it bloomed and I looked it up online to figure out what it was. Since then the collection has grown to 100+ plants.
I am really pleased to see all the new hoya lovers posting and introducing themselves. Thanks to the ladies in Sweden for joining in on the conversation too. After 4 years at this I am still a complete novice. Mind you, I do have some luck getting them to bloom but it's more my climate than my knowledge or talent.
Cheers everyone. Keep safe....
Susan

Carol
Hi all!
I'm new here so I tought that it would be a great idea to show everyone who I am!
My name is Katja and I live in Sweden. I'm 32 years old and I'm married since 10 years back. No children but two hairy dogs (Old English Sheepdog) and oldest is 2 years old and the youngest is 10 months. Besides the dog we do have 2 cats too. Its a big family of hairy ones (I'm not included of course, but the rest are ;))
I'll hope that we'll many nice discussions together in the future. Hopefully I will learn lots of tips that increases my chances to get blooming Hoya plants.
It's not the best photo of me, my husband suprised me so I look like someone have suprised a thief in the cellar (and I'm the thief) ;-)
Regards
Katja
Welcome Katja!
Glad you have joined the Hoya fan club.
Ann

I am beginning to love that place. They sure know how to grow beautiful plants there. I am sure we will learn as much from you as you do from us. That is why having a forum like this is so GREAT.
Marcy
