"In the Garden" by Brad Paisley

N., CA(Zone 9a)

Brad Paisley is my absolute favorite right now and his version of this song brings me to tears. If you get a chance to hear it, the fiddle is beautiful (even if you're not a big country fan, which I wasn't before I heard him!)

I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The son of God discloses

And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known

He speaks and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet that the birds hush their singing
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing

I rarely listen to country (I like it, I just listen to talk radio). But, this is one of my all time favorite hymns, it is so beautiful. When we used to go to my mamaw's church on visits to southern WV, they sang this one quite a bit and I have trouble singing it without that sweet little ole lady twang they had, lol, I wish I had it on tape, reminds me of childhood.

We still sing it down here, no fiddle but lots of twang. A wonderful hymn full of love.

The story goes that the writer was developing photos of gardens when looking at a negative he went into a dream/vison/trance and saw Mary Magadline in the garden at the garden tomb. This is the moment when the man she thought was the gardener turns to talk to her. At the moment of his words she is filled with peace. The song ends in the 3rd and 4th verse with her knowing who this man is and the gardener becomes the Lord. When that moment passed he is said to have sat down and wrote the whole thing at one setting.

My grandmother passed away about a month ago and one of her nephews got up and sang this song, before he was done almost everybody was singing, It was a truly beautiful moment.

I sang this song in church some years ago. About 1/3 of the way through the song the music for the pianist went flying off of his piano like a gust of wind had come through. There were no open windows or fans going. He quietly got down, picked up his music off the floor and we started the song all over again.

I was nervous when I started, but the second time around....well it sort of broke the ice and it came out beautiful, if I might say so myself.

Definitely one of my favorites.

My favorite too, but I am trying to think, what was the last verse? I can't seem to remember. Something like "the night around me is falling, and He bids me go in a voice of woe,"?
Anyone recall this last verse?

Spring Hill, FL(Zone 9a)

I'd stay in the garden with him
though the night around me be falling,
but he bids me go; thru the voice of woe
his voice to me is calling.

I have Jim Reeves version on vinyl from forever ago

OHHH... I loved Jim Reeves. Jo

This is a song i grew up with and sing at least to myself often. I see GOD in so many ways in life and the world. No, I am not one who sees each item as being GOD, but I see HIS handiwork and creation in everything. The BIBLE says HE created all things and without HIM nothing is made.
