What sticks out in your mind from high school?
When I was in high school...
Bobby sox. LOL. I'm a LOT older than you, obviously... : )
Sounds about like my HS experience, TammyTN. At one point I had a mullet. I graduated in 1985. When did you?

I would have graduated in 86, but had to settle for a GED because of getting married young.
I'll go along with Hap--.
Adding the original "Greasers". Probably a forunner to gangs.
In our area they were a group of guys with the black, slicked back hair, black leather jackets, engineer boots, & a hot rod car. If there was trouble, they were in the center of it.
One big difference between them & todays gangs, they never got into trouble that needed police. Drugs were not around when I was a teenager.

Smoking was the worst thing you could do. The kids who drank were the wild ones. It was slim skirts, loafers and socks, letter sweaters, letter jackets and cheerleading outfits. (I was a cheerleader) Drive in movies, sunday afternoon drives (money was scarce) cruising Jerry's Drive In. (nobody had enough money to eat) Trips to state parks, double dating, basketball and football games. I graduated in 1965.
I was going through the list and thinking "Hey, i remember that"!! Funny how i remembered them all, lol. I graduated in '86 ; )
I remember sitting in the parking lot listening to aldo nova and the j giles band. Country wasnt cool yet, lol.
Country was not so cool here in central Ohio back then, either (at least among teens). I remember a few country songs, but mostly it was because they played them on Wednesday nights at the skating rink. Friday and Saturday nights were more my style of music there.
Hash jeans
Halter Tops
Farrah Fawcett hair
Platform shoes
Disco Duck and A Horse With No Name
Black lights
Black light posters
lava lamps
Green shag carpet with orange curtains
I graduated in ????

We're having our 25th class reunion (1980) this Friday and Saturday. I can't wait!
Edited to say: I was in charge of publishing our class directory for this reunion, and I used our old high school yearbook pictures. One of the things my daughters remarked on was the HAIR! As much lift as we could get and all feathered back. Our most valuable tool was the curling iron. If we couldn't look like her, at least we all wanted hair like Farrah Fawcett!

Jezz, you kids are all youngsters!
Bernie
I tell you, you hear a favored song and count the years since it was a hit...when the heck did 25 years go by anyway? Was I asleep?
we all share american bandstand though!

Hair, when I was in high school, was "The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical." (Farrah Fawcett who? Lol! Haircut? No Way!) It is coming to town Sept. but I suspect there will no nudity in this version unlike the one I saw many moons ago. I am going to take my teens and a couple of their friends anyway. I don't suppose Led Zepplin is touring this way anytime soon.
"There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold..........."
Edited to say: Only 25?!

LOL... not much commonality for me in these rememberances. I just realized that in 3 more years it will be my 50th high school reunion!
My old high school (Miami Senior High School) has been on the National Historic Register for many years now. My aunt (who is now 92) and my mother (84) made the trip 10-15 years ago for the dedication/reunions since they both graduated from that same school.
Great show last night on PBS about Sun Recording Studio in Memphis. That's the small label that started off Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison and Johnny Cash, among others. Pure nostalgia.
Do you remember how you felt in Jan. 86 when the Challenger exploded?
yes, we were all sick about Christa McCoullogh. That was a shocker.
Yes, Dreadful.
I was in 8th grade when the Challenger happened. I was home sick that day and watched it live. I still get chills thinking about it.
I graduated 1990. In HS, pants had to be SKIN tight. I was very thin so my mom would take my pant legs in so that they "fit right" I would have to turn them inside out and stand on them to get my feet out of them, the ankles were so tight. We had HUGE hair too, long and these huge wings on the sides, the bigger your hair was, the cooler it was. We stood out collars up, and wore black leather like lace up ankle boots instead of tennis shoes. Cinderella, Winger and the Bullet Boys played at the first concert I went to.
Janis
KIP WINGER!!!
***swoon****
Peace symbols, viet nam protests, bell bottom jeans -- groovy! Graduated high school is '69. Lordy, this brings back memories.
I was at work when the challanger exploded I worked in an airport we had put all the phones on call forward and ran down to the TV in the lounge to watch the blast off what a sad day. I also remember when the 1st men walked on the moon I wanted them to wait just a couple more hours so it would be on my 11th birthday. JoanJ and GW I am in your group graduated 1976.
Inda, he touched my hand at the concert LOL I thought I could die on the spot
Haven't seen him for years, he is probably fat and bald now, but then swoon is right
Janis
Nope, Kip is not fat and bald now. You wouldn't recognize him but he's still good-looking. Too pretty for me at the time tho. I do love that Tommy Lee tho!
My high school had a smoking section! After lunch the cowboys would line up against the fence and dip and the "freaks" would stay in the smoking section. That was the beginning of long addictions for both sides.
I'm over here in the 80's crowd. My 20 year reunion is next summer - yikes! Has is really been 20 years?? I had a rockabilly year, tight jeans and black pumps and Stray Cats, But then came new wave: asymetrical hair and one dangly earring. Duran Duran, Culture Club, Adam Ant. Then I started going rocker: spiked hair, Billy Idol, Pat Benetar. Then my senior year it was Bruce all the way!! That one stuck with me LOL!!
Doesn't Kip Winger live out in the desert now? VH-1 did a behind the music on him and he is still gorgeous! Swoon and double swoon! Oh I loved all of the hair bands except that whitesnake dude wore his hair too girly. I was a the only fan of KISS in the 80s lol! But to me they will always rock.
I'm older than you and still love KISS!! I am not a KISS Army card carrying member, but I'll always be a fan. I can get bored of them but you gotta love their creativity and Gene's ability to market anything!! I had KISS posters in my Junior High locker and just recently bought a shirt with KISS on front. lol Some things never change, and that's good!
I graduated in 1985. Oh, I remember the skin-tight jeans with the tapered legs...And wearing a bandana tied around on thigh. We went through the urban cowboy fad with non-cowboys wearing cowboy hats with feather-adorned roach clips hanging from the brims.
Anyone care to post a HS senior or prom photo? I'm game if you will...I'll have to dig out my yearbook.
Kimberley, I have to find mine, too. But I will if you will!
Oh Lord, you are brave! I won't even show my husband the senior pics I had taken! blech! I can't scan anything that old either.
