First of all you have a great house....Since I am from the old school I personally like the original Ideas of white houses with black trim. Your new look is much too mod for me..Do research and go back to the original look of your house. ...or you could live with it for a while and decide if you like that look... I believe in restoring rather than redesigning older homes...Its just wonderful to have a house like that to make a decision on....

help need your opinions quick!
Positive thought!
All that paint helps insulation lol........
Now, I'm not trying to be difficult, but colorful houses is not a new idea. Ever been to Charleston, SC? This is a picture of Rainbow Row, houses painted in what is believed to be original colors, original to the 1700's. :)
Edited to add, I think it's a lot to do with the color combinations. Also, old Victorian houses are often colored very bright contrasting or complimenting colors. If you do a google image search for "victorian houses" you'll see a wide variety of color combos.

never been to SC......but i do love the houses on rainbow row........I love bright colors, just not mint green or anything that resembles it....... I love victorian homes too.....
Hey, SC didn't invent it either. LOL Ever been to Europe? ;-) These are lovely I think. But in order to pull it off, you have to have the entire street in on the act. One big pink house in the midst of white or beige homes.....just doesn't fly.

Hi! Notmartha have you decide what color you would like to paint your house yet? Hope everything come out good and take it easy be careful urself ok so can't wait to see your house painting is over to show picture after that. Have a great day~
Mary, love your picture. I thought of New Orleans. The old South has many historical homes that are brightly colored.
Rainbow Row was just the first one that came to mind. New Orleans has a lot of color in more ways than one! :)
Yep, I've been to Europe, but I've never seen anything like the Cologne picture there. That is beautiful, and very "European" looking! (gee who'd a thunk.)
don't know if this'll help or not, but BHG.com has this new thing called Color-a-Home where you can select exterior colors of roof, siding, trim in virtual reality before you get up on that ladder again! Mint green is not exactly my thing, but my take is that if you had painted the gingerbread in a reddish (pink?) tone that complements the roof and painted the window trim a contrasting color like soft yellow, you could've had a true 'painted lady' that would be a stunner with your beautiful garden. Think buttercreme dinner mints. Mmm.
Well it's probably too late. White is boring.
Salvia - thanks for sharing pic of Europe. Inspirational.
Pebble - that's pretty weird, what is the punishment for breaking the "white house" rule?
The things we take for granted here...
I'm not sure, maybe just a fine
I was at benjamin moore site coloring houses for a month!!! They all looked good in a small picture but when we painted the house the scale was 100 times larger and brighter and oh my!!!!
the house is white now and I love it much better-it has dark and light blue trim!!!
It looks like AND1 colors-lol but it beats the heck out of living in the kebbler elves mint green house ;)
when we get er done(larry the cable guy)I will post pics!!!!
thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
