Good morning,
My vote will be with the white. I love your flower beds around the house!

(Zone 8b)

I'm not sure I like the dark blue woodwork with the green, though I think the dark blue makes the house less bland, if the siding was pale blue, like the shingles under the windows, it would look great. My first thought when I saw it was that the green is 'sugary' - made me think of the candy house in Hansel & Gretel.
Hope you aren't offended, but you did say be honest!

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

not offended at all-want truth!!!

I think that if the trim and gingerbread were painted white (No blues at all) it would look fine. The blue/mint/white/brick/ combo is a real shock to the senses.

southwestern, IA(Zone 5a)

Well we have alot of homes around here 100+ years old and many of them painted like yours. Maybe not exactly those colors but with the same multi color style. It is quite shocking at first but once it is all finished I really like it. It makes the homes original and really makes the little details stand out. I say finish what you started and give yourself some time to get used to it. The worst thing that can happen is you have to paint it again and since you have already started why not finish and really let yourself decide if you like it!

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

Looks like a lot of painting. I'd leave the green for now, but paint the trim white, or dark green. The blue seems out of place.

Starkville, MS

I would go with either white with green, or white with blue, and not try to mix the green and blue. The roof color will go nicely with either combination and can be used to accent things like doors or yard art and flowers. If you stay with the spring green then accents in a very dark hunter green with white would be quite beautiful. I know I have probably not helped you narrow it down much, but I guess what I'm trying to say is don't try to mix the blue and green. Go with white and greens, or white and blues.

It is a beautiful house!!!!!

Wilton, CA(Zone 9b)

I also think that for now you should leave the main color alone for the rest of the year, but repaint the trim. I'd go for a cream. check out architecture.about.com ; then click on "house color chart"; that may help you decide.

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

I don't think the blue trim is the best choice. Perhaps a tan trim and darker tan shingles?

erie, PA(Zone 5a)

Thats a lot of green! Green trees, green grass, green house. Maybe if you are going for a "Green Acres" look, otherwise I would stick with the white with a forest green trim. Gil

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Im going to keep the trim colors(dark blue and light blue)those i can live with! Its all that springtime green!
when the leaves are gone and the white snow is on the ground-shuttering!!!!!

Im leaning towards WHITE house!

N., CA(Zone 9a)

IMHO, I dont care for the mint. Your house is gorgeous and that color takes away from all the beautiful detailing and the gardens. The white was so much more cottagey. I am so sorry, repainting the house is a chore!

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

Dori, that house is tall! Be careful on those ladders!

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

That's a lot of mint or seafoam green or whatever it is. Personally, not one of my favorite colors. Blue, yellow - maybe. *sorry for my bluntness* :(

But, at least it will be easy for the pizza guy to find the house!

Lovely house, though!

southwestern, IA(Zone 5a)

Oh I really have to figure out what my DH did to my camera and go take some pictures of the houses around here. Some of you might be suprised with the end results. Ultimately it needs to be painted to your liking but it is fun to hear everyones opinions.
bluegrass is right though, be careful!

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

My DH is repainting it WHITE as I type-he is the one way up on the ladders!!!

I luv and thank you all for your opinions!!!

I may have liked it more if it was someone elses house, I just cant imangine day after day after day ....................

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

I love that kind of house. We have several houses like that in Lake Charles. I love to go and ride and pass, looking at those old houses. The color is not for me, sorry. That white trim is look better instead blue. :o)

Be careful with ladder!

Modi'in, Israel

I think the mint green would be lovely if combined with a different (muted) trim color. But I agree with others above that the dark blue and light blue combined with the mint green is a sensory overload. If you prefer the blue trim, then I'd suggest going back to white or even a pale cream for the house. Man I wouldn't want to repaint the entire house though! That looks like a LOT of work!

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

i liked green to not with that blue trim.. thought looked happy.. but white is good to... maybe the trim that green.. good luck.. blessings..

Utica, MI(Zone 6b)

I am usually not a white loving person.......but i have to lean towards the white.....the color makes the house look a bit overwhelming.....I think the blue trim will look nice.....but i think if it was my house, i would only paint the shingles under the windows and the window frames the blue.......and not all of the trim....I like simple but elegant.....and your house is VERY elegant!!! beautiful!! and keep us posted on pics please!!?

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Not Martha, You are right that is an awful lot of green. You did just say your DH is now painting it white so i guess that question is settled. Two shades of gray would be a nice trim color, but I am reading that you like blue, and since it is your house I think you show paint the trim a color you and your husband like. It is a great looking house and do send more photos. DonnaS

I am glad you went with white, dori, I think like sbarr said that is so much green especially considering your grass and nice big trees. I love the gingerbread. How pretty. Your house reminds me a little of mine. It is large but we have put several additions on through the years.

The picture in my post is my after photo which I painted last June. You can see at least two of our additions in this photo. This picture is the before we painted photo. We have aluminum siding and we had had that yellow for 26 years. I brushed it on ; it took me about two weeks. We had borrowed a friend's set of scaffolding which made my job quite a bit easier. It is still the same aluminum siding.

I know it is already settled, but I would vote for the green. Maybe change the trim color but I kind of like the dark blue.

Wait until I post the pictures of our house when the man is thru painting it. 7 colors. Vertical bats, about 54 each of 5 different colors, yellow peaks, white main boards, and lavender trim. Ours is a large ranch style.

Mount Angel, OR(Zone 8a)

Leaflady, I would love to see photos of your painting job when finished. I find it fascinating the colors we like and chose for various things. Sound very pretty. Can't wait to see. Joann

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Dori,

I know your already redoing it as you mentioned, but I don't care for that color green for that house. The white will be pretty again with the new trim.

Molly Mc is a painter, you should ask her to come over here and give you some advice. She is good with color matching.

High Desert, NV(Zone 5a)

Just happened on this thread. Have to admit if you were my neighbor, i'd be a bit relieved you repainted. It was a lovely colour for a shirt or a room, but a whole house is a lot.

Beautiful house though.

San Jacinto County, TX(Zone 8a)

Wow, as usual I love this board.
No comment on tha paint but I really like this style house.

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Dori, multicolored houses are way cool, I love them, but that green reminds me of the halls at school. I can understand you going with the white but if you paint again anytime within the next couple of years you can rethink the colors you really want to make your house jump.

I still cant get enough of looking at your house, one of these days your going to have to give us a virtual tour.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

short and sweet-= go white..

Ocean Springs, MS(Zone 8b)

I agree, go white.

St. Paul, MN(Zone 4a)

I liked the before with the light blue trim.

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

Dori - I like your decision: keep the blues, go white. But then, that particular green is one of the colors I like least in all the world! Ahem, and we are the crazy people who painted a perfectly good white house brown, with dark green, cream and raspberry (the raspberry will go to a dark red soon!) and a lovely rough hemlock shed in patchwork, so maybe you shouldn't listen to me (see Farm forum for What Farmers do when the grass doesn't grow pic of shed).

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

That house really does so beautiful but not the color is blue trims not look good on with those green so, all white look good "for me" if I get those house would be nice more pretty to use soft yellow with all white trims on it will be very nice to match with the green grass and red rose climbing on wall stand.
I am glad that you want to know the truth about the color of your house so that way you can think what the best to choose color for your house to let someone tell you what they think so you can decision to help you to make you feel better. I love your house so be careful the ladder please if you want all white go for it cheaper cost whatever you can afford it still beautiful too. ;0) Keep update!
Have a wonderful day~

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

I would love to see the completed picture. I lke white with blue trim, that is the traditional house colors here in bodrum. in fact it is a law that the houses can only be painted white, with blue trim if trim was wanted. there is even a blue color called "bodrum Blue"
in fact my office is white with blue trim.

N., CA(Zone 9a)

I think everyone should post pics of their colorful houses. I'd love to get some ideas for mine!

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

This is vinyl siding, but we put on painted cedar trim instead of the vinyl stuff. This keeps our house as it was when built umteen years ago. (I have no idea when it was built, but guess 1920's).
We used white latex stain on the cedar so it should last a long time.
