As some of you know I have to move in about 5 weeks and have nowhere to go yet. If any of you have ideas please let me know because if I haven't thought of it maybe I could use it. I have never been in this situation before and am really getting scared. Oh I can find homes but they are out of my rental price range or they won't allow my dogs. I have had the girls for their whole lives (over 12 years) and can't get rid of them. Why in life is it that money is such a large issue? You need deposits and moving money and where do people think you are supposed to get it all? Well if your brain comes up with a great idea let me know please. You don't want sweet little Makshi sitting in the street with a plant in one hand and dog leash in other do you?
Any Ideas?
how about low income apts. section 8 do you qualify? hud? praying you get help relief..
You looking to stay in the town you're in? I have a buddy who rents nice clean houses in not the greatest neighborhoods here in Lansing MI.
How about advertising in the newspaper about sharing a house with an elderly lady in exchange for house chores, or cooking, or driving her to do her errands, in exchange for free rent?
I am sure there are people who can use that kind of set up, the hard part is finding them.
It you attend a church, you might ask, they probably know someone in that kind of situation. Or you could ask at a senior citizens center also.
I hope this helps, God will help you if you ask Him.
Josephine.
I'd put an ad in the paper, saying you're a dog owner seeking a rental. If you've rented in the past and can get letters of reference from the landlords, that will help.
I agree with Gardenwife, letters of reference could be critical. A landlord's greatest fear is a deposit that only covers about 20% of the damage when someone moves out. A good rental history should help. Good Luck!
We have good references and a previous landlandy trying to buy a house so we can rent it but it is going to take way to long. I am really getting sick at my stomach over all of this. Thanks for the ideas. I have most of them covered. Keep thinking. :)
Diane, I think an ad in the paper is a good suggestion. I'm thinking of what you can do, will let you know when i think of something constructive.
Diane, do you want to or have to stay in Indiana? I do not know much about the area where you live. Did you get a chance to check into the area where my father lives or is that too far from you? He is is North Vernon in case you forgot. He may have some ideas for you if it is a thought. I would be happy to call and ask him. Best of luck to you my friend.
Bad
Thank you so much but I really need to stay here. I would really not mind somewhere else but it would be really hard on me and my son since he is the one that has to work and do most things for me that I need done for me. I am on a respirator at night and have so much trouble doing most things that I can't really live alone. My doctors are here also.
When we were renters we would call on homes that said they won't allow pets and explain to them about our well behaved dogs and that they were kept in crates when we weren't home and that we had good references from people who had rented to us with the animals and Voila we would have a house. People who rent are hesitant to rent to people with animals because of being burned in the past by careless renters but many are open to careful renters. Hope this helps ya.
BTW I rented a house (in town too) when we had a houseful of dogs. I was showing, training and breeding dogs for years and at the time we moved I had 32 adult dogs in the house and two litters of puppies plus a small child. I found a house in three days using the above techniques.
Hugs,
Lani
Oh, this is awful!
Wish I could help....
Have you asked your Doctors if they have any ideas?
They may know of someone who could help at least temporarily.
Hoping (for what it's worth!) all is resolved quickly!
Our SPCA keeps a list of pet-friendly rentals. Might be worth checking out. Best of luck, Diane!
Thank all of you for your ideas. It help just knowing that someone out there is at least thinking about us.
I hope we find something soon because the older I get the harder things like this seem to be. We do have good ref. from our previous landlady. One thing also is that there are not as many homes for rent as there are people looking. Prices also are a little problem because it cost so much to move. We just moved 1 and 1/2 years ago and I just go the bills for that one paid off and now this. Keep on thinking good thoughts.
Would possibly a mobile home solve your problem in finding a place to rent? Some of the mobile parks here usually have places to rent.
Praying that God will lead you to the perfect home for you... may he meet all your needs..
I am going to have to go live in that refrigerator box under the bridge soon.
OH I sure hope not, Diane. Call all the real estate places and see if they might know of a place for you to live. I wonder if a church might help you with a place to live? I know there is someplace for you out there but you just haven't found it yet. It can sure be discouraging though I know. I was in your shoes about 20 years ago and ended up spending several months living in a tent but as winter was coming on we found a place to live. If you lived closer I would think our garage/shop might be a great place for you to hang your hat for a while but I know that is impossible due to the distance. Meanwhile you are in my prayers for a good home for you where you won't have to move until you want to.
Hugs,
Lani
Lani,
I have tried the things you suggested and not found anything yet. I only have one week to find some place and get enough money to move. I had all the confidence in the world until a couple of weeks ago. It isn't like I can just be anywhere with all the health machinery I need to live. I still have a little pinch of optimism left.
Once upon a time I used to work for our local county department of job and family services (welfare dept) here in Ohio. I recommend you call yours. Ask for an --adult programs-- social worker. Share with the worker there your housing needs. They'll put their folks to work on your problem, especially since you have special health needs.
Oh, yes, please do what Darleen has suggested...there's got to be at least some *temporary* help for you within your county's Social Service organizations.
Darleen that is a great idea!!!!!!!!!! With Diane's health problems she should qualify for help that direction.
Hugs again for you Diane,
Lani
