Coffee and...Part 24...! :-D

Not a good day today. My mother did not wake up to recognize me, once again.

However, at her Dr's request last week by phone, I met with him for nearly 30 minutes today.

Since she has NO quality of Life, and is almost coma-like, we have agreed to stop ALL medications, and not send her to Acute Care again. If she shows signs of being in pain or discomfort, he will prescribe morphine and adavan. He says since there is no hope of her getting better, this is what he recommends. I finally had to agree because I'm just so tired and upset at seeing her like that.

But first, he will talk to her tomorrow afternoon and he says that even if she seems asleep or unconscious, the sub-conscious hears and understands. He will tell her that if she wants to live and do her part by eating, taking fluids and meds, then he will continue to treat/help her. However, if she's ready to go, that is okay too.

So tomorrow before I leave here, I will go back to the hospital and tell her the same thing, that it is okay to go if she's ready and wants to go. And tell her Goodbye. Or, that if she wants to live and will try to eat and drink, I will see her on Sept. 23-24.

Oh Darius, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I hope that you have a "really good goodbye". Sometimes that it is not possible, but even if you don't think she is awake, maybe her subconscious mind will at least know that you are there. Make peace with her and with yourself. Have a safe trip home. Hugs to you.

The doctor sounds like a good man and a good doctor. My Dad's was not so helpful and left the decisions all to me. Agreed with them but was not helpful as yours was. And never gave me 30 minutes of his time.

Darius, this is what I would want my family to do for me. Rest now, knowing that the whatever happens is up to her and God. ((((( U ))))) I'll be praying for you.

I'm off to an endurance ride in the morning, so will be absent for the weekend.

Mary, we are already all convinced you have more endurance than any of us. LOL... have a great time riding this weekend.

Very hard, Darius - am glad you have such a human doctor to work with.

Mary, when you come back, why don't you share some endurance pointers with the rest of us? Not that I'm planning to chase lambs any time soon...Say hello to that skyline out there for us.

Man, doesn't life throw you some curves! You've been a good daughter Darius and have been there for your mom. How lucky your mom and you are to have such an insightful doctor. Hopefully this will all end for you all peacefully and soon.

Couple of prayers for the Doctor, too.
