Coffee and...Part 24...! :-D
Mmmmmm blt wraps, I'll have one for sure. Sis said she and a friend went to a restaurant and the waitress said, the special of the day was a BLT wrap so they ordered it. Got it. Found chicken, some dressing, No B No L No T. Error? Who knows!! I did pick up some superdelicious smoked bacon yesterday while we were shopping, so BLTs will be on the menu here soon.
We're off to see puppies today, and I think I'm going back to the salon for another haircut. That will be number three, but I'm going to argue the case that they didn't cut it short enough the last time. It's hard to tell when it's wet so maybe they will give me a free fix up. I can't believe I fell for that perm thing again. Will I never learn?
Off to make breakfast, and then hit the road. Last fill up cost me $33 and I'm on empty again. It's getting pretty funny, sis is shopping but I'm the one buying!! LOL gotta stop this!!!
PUPPIES???? For you? What will the Meezers think?
Pati
Sheila...DH stopped for gas yesterday and it was $2.50 a gal!
:-O
~julie~
Yeah Julie, I know, I'm not looking forward to filling up the tank. No, Pati, not looking to adopt, just taking my sister to see my DD's litter of nine little goldens, five weeks old! I won't be tempted by them, but she might, but they are waaay pricier than she would be willing to pay.
Went back to the hairdresser and complained that it wasn't short enough. Well. Now it is. Hairdresser's revenge. Yikes!!!
Hahaha on me. Good thing hair grows.
Great picture and a GREAT haircut!! I kept mine cut like this for years. Just so easy to keep clean in the shower. Of course you might not be a "sweat-head" like me! *grin*
Pati
M5 - love the haircut! Looks good on you.
M5, love the cut! Mine is about that length, so easy to wash and drip-dry.
I have mine cut short for that reason too! Can't remember the last time I used a hair dryer.
Happy Birthday, "BetsyBug"!!
Yep, Happy Birthday to the member formerly known as MBock. may it be a perfect gardening day even if you don't garden today.
Thank you Darius - and I got your card also. Cake sure was good! LOL.
I gave myself a b-day present - threw out my back this morning while picking up the cat food bowls! Must have twisted or something. So - I'm home propped up on the heating pad and doing DG (when I should be working!) - but hey - it's my B-day!!!!!
I've done this back thing several times and it's always no warning - just BAM! Getting old - 46 - over the hill - LOL
thanks Blooms! btw - we're plannning on being in Moab next April. Working out dates and details now (family thing - so everyone's got to agree!). Hope to meet you!
Hey, I'm 64 so 46 ain't old!
Nice pic M5!
Someone talk me out the perm I've got scheduled for next month! (I can't stand this stringy mess any longer! LOL)
~julie~
Julie - DON'T DO IT! Can you cut it short? What will it do?
M5, looks good. My sweetheart's 'do' is even shorter right after a haircut and she loves it. Difference is a magnificently rich silverish color.( Wish I had that much hair!)
Like the haircut, short is best when its hot!!
Happy birthday BB! 46 your just a baby :>)
Went to get DS car back today - much cooler drive home ac and BRAKES - what luxury!
We have new neighbours, with 5 kids!, moving in today, they seem like nice folk wonder if they are gardeners. They have moved from Arizona so its not too climatically different, but maybe gardens and kids don't mix. We shall see.
Lunch calls, I have pecan pie, so its calling hard.
I can *not* believe that I (once again!) didn't look above my last post!!!
Hey Marcia! We're both lions! Happy Birthday, kiddo! I remember being *46*...that would be 14 years ago! LOL (60 is coming on real soon now)
The perm is probably going to happen anyway. My DH told me not long ago that I looked like I only had a head...no hair. So I've been letting it grow for the last couple of months. You know, so the hairdresser could get a curler to hang on. LOL I've had it ultra short (a little longer than M5's) for several years. I threatened DH with the idea of having done like my mom wore hers (I think they called it a "Pompadore" back in the 40's...now they call it an 'Afro'.) For some reason, he didn't think that was funny. (I think it had something to do with the fact that I'd look just like Mama if I did. LOL)
I did the unthinkable this afternoon...I *slept* for nearly 4 hours! I should have been outside watering my gardens and containers. But I'm just exhausted these days. So much so that I'm about ready to let the plants go to plant heaven. :-(
Can someone loan me some energy? Hey, I know...Mary has a plenty of extra. hehehe How about it Mary? (Good heavens, M5...HOW do you manage to play GOLF??? and shopping??? There's NO way *anyone* could get me to a mall...a WEDDING? OMG don't even mention that to me. For some reason I'm thinking I may have to think about going to the Chicago area for MIL's funeral...and she isn't even sick! Geez...just thinking is making me tired! LOL)
Robert...I like your hair just the way it is...and I'm sure your wife feels the same way. So you don't have to wish for more.
I'm getting really weird...rambling...I'm out of here.
OH! Pass that pecan pie!
~julie~
Hello everyone. Happy Birthday to BB. 46 sounds young to me, has for a long time. Hope your back gets itself together soon, possibly just getting the muscles to relax will get it realigned without a trip to the chiro. I'm sure you would rather spend the money on something else. Sitting with a heating pad in August doesn't sound good at all, well, I guess it would if we were in the southern hemisphere where it is winter. I just happened to think that if a person could go back and forth from say Australia to the US every 6 months you could have all summer or all winter, whatever you prefer! There are people who love winter but I think they aren't gardeners. Funny how those wierd thoughts pop into my head.
Okus, pecan pie calling? What are you going to do, share it? I volunteer to help you take care of it.
M5, that is indeed short! Looks like they left you just enough to comb. Did they charge you this time? Most people say something like "just take a little off" and come out with almost nothing, so this is different.
Gas is $2.66 in town as of yesterday. Gee, I can remember 32 cents a gallon and down to 25 when there was a gas war. During the gas shortage of the 70's it went up to 75 cents and we thought that was awful. Remember the odd-even system for when to fill your tank? And people sitting with their engines idling while inching toward the gas pumps, that probably was counter productive. Everybody hoped to get their tank full before the station ran out. Good thing we had an economy car, well, almost a roller skate, a little bitty Honda Civic, about the size of a VW bug but with the ability to climb a hill at highway speeds.
Today I'm doing laundry and trying to get a handle on the house cleaning, ugh. And trying to figure out where all the flies are getting into the house. They just appear. Yes, some do come in when I open the door but not all of them. Our house is part old and part new, some places not quite finished like the trim around the back door which never got put up (12 years now). Also, there are small gaps next to some of the window frames. Anyhow, I got tired of trying to swat all of them and have decided to have a little fun slurping them up with the vaccuum cleaner hose. Every time I get them all cleaned up and wait an hour or two there are another dozen or so on the windows. And meanwhile, I attack other things like the furniture and the floors.
The fire doesn't look too active but the latest update says it is over 1000 acres, is only 5% contained and now has over 600 men on it. Heilicopters are busy, I have seen more aricraft in the past few days than I usually see in a year. Yesterday I was watching them with binocculars and they got awfully small with the distance. They are hard to see against the rocky face of the mountain. It's called the Mule Peak fire but I think they should have named it after mountain goats. I hear another chopper going over. We are getting smoke from another fire more to our northwest, not sure where that one is, can't see the smoke plume from it but we get dispursed smoke coming over some mountains. The Idaho fire we could see the other night is up to over 25,000 acres. Thankfully the thunder storms (without rain) are done for a while and the winds have died down to reasonable speeds.
Time to hang more laundry on the line and get the sheets back on the bed.
Yes!!!! :>) the Pecan Pie needs to be shared - if I eat it all I'll need a new wardrobe!
Happy BD, Betsybug, hope your back gets better real fast. 40s? I think I remember being forty, you BABY, you!! LOL
Thanks for the kind words, all, I think that hairdresser didn't want to see me anymore. Didn't charge me for this one, think she got a tip? Not if I'm never going back there!
We're going out for dinner, but I'll have a little sliver of that pecan pie, it won't take up a lot of room.
Reminder call from the vet, Oskar's dental appointment is tomorrow morning, 8 am, no food after 9 tonight. Water ok but take it away in the morning. This is gonna cost me! Filled my tank for $34 this afternoon. Between the vet and the gas, I'm gonna go sit on my front steps with a tin cup.
Yeah, Tin Cups are gonna be everywhere soon.
On a brighter note, Roseone33 who lves about 40+ miles from me, offered me some fresh organic produce. So, I drove over today. Yum, potatoes, tomatoes, garlic, eggplants and lots of cucumbers to make pickles. A BIG plus was this stash of fresh chanterelle mushrooms!!! (I posted them in Recipes to see if anyone had any good suggestions for use.)
Hi guys,
I'm 57. Never thought I'd get this old! I planned to die gracefully at 54 but it didn't happen, so now I just don't know what to do. Glad I'm not the only moldy oldy on this forum.
E. McCool
McCool, welcome to the GOBs thread(s)... Glorious old broads and guys!
Evening everyone!! Sipping on a huge malt - thanks to DH. I had a down to earth talk with him yesterday about being so darn grouchy to everyone - he is much nicer today. Every so often I have to have a little 'talk' with him about his behavior - good grief...sometimes I think he is son number three...
I love short hair - I've had it that way for years!! Can't stand the sight of an old woman with long hair - yuck Mine is thinning so much, that I've thought about a wig! Haven't had a perm in eons either. Just highlight it. I did the afro look for several years =- when I see myself in pics, I wonder what in the world I was thinking!!
Filled up the car yesterday at Sam's for 2.15 - went there again today and it was up to 2':30
I need some energy too - I spent the day watering, then reading, and dozing off. I drank two whiskey slushes - could that be the problem!! Also made a huge dent in double stuffed oreos. I really need to get back on the diet wagon.
I had a bunch of wedding pics made for my mom and she just called me and said she can't find them - thinks she threw them out - and could I get her some more. Grr - had to bite my tongue!!
Well, time for beddy bye- and I have to to the expander thing in DGS's mouth - anybody done that?? It makes me SOOO nervous...
ps - I haven't had any dinner, but I'd love some pecan pie....
Well, GOB's, I'm baaaack!! You all have just been a bunch of chatter boxes. Took me an hour just to read it all and catch up. Sorry about the sore arm. Am experiencing something similar, but the 3 day vacation, without work seems to have made it better! Who would have thought that? Hey, glad to hear the wedding went off okay, sounds like a good time was had by all. I've done the shuttle bus thing to the garage for the DS, I think that they think we have nothing to do,since we are at home!! Mary, the fires sound scary to me. You be sure to stay safe. The hair cut looks really good. I've had the short style for years, just love it. Who said that really nasty word "perm". I think every now & then that a perm would be nice, get one and have never been satisfied with it. Darius, yum, all that fresh garden stuff sounds really good. Who was that juvenile that just had a 40 something birthday? Naw, age is just a number, although my numbers are getting higher!!. And everyone making all that good desert, egg custard, pecan pie, making me hungry!!
Well, to fill in my "adventures" in Gatlinburg and Dollywood, here goes. Hotel was very nice, went to Dollywood, after 3:00 on Monday, tickets were good for the next day too. (How kind of them), so we had to go back the next day too. That is the biggest rip-off I have encountered lately. It cost $78.00 for me and my DGD. I was under the impression that it was mostly amusement park ride things. Well, all told I think the girls rode maybe 15 rides. Was talked into going on the River Rampage, about 1/2 mile inner tube ride down a steam with "rapids", when I reached the end of the journey, was totally soaked!!. Then rode a roller coaster with sister's DGD, because no one else was brave enough, what in the world was I thinking? Walked about 20 miles in the park, and everything was such a rip off. Hot dogs $3.00, cokes, 2.00, a dill pickle (for my DGD) 2.00. They might as well have held me up at gun point!!, cause it was robbery. I don't think that the good lord intended grandmothers to do the amusement park thing, if he had he would have given us a wind fall, and younger legs and feet to do it with!! Ah well, should be safe until next year, oops, got the state fair to do in August.
Well, I am going to unpack, it will probably be laundry day tomorrow, in addition to the grocery shopping.
Keep safe and sane, will try to have something on the counter for you tomorrow morning.
Night all.
Interesting M5, as a breeder of goldens for 30 years back in the UK, I find that pic very interesting. There looks to be some paler (UK?) dogs in the background of that pedigree. The pups also have larger and better eye shape than a lot of pure US lines. Do you know what Frankie and Mulder have as their 'Sunday' names? I'd be fascinated to learn.
Carol
Geeze- I just couldn't sleep last night. Went to bed at 10:30pm - slept until 1 - then I watched the clock for the rest of the night. We were supposed to get rain and all the windows were open and since I had fans running I was afraid I wouldn't hear it. I should have just gotten up and shut up everything, but man, it was still cookin here - 82 at NIGHT!! Never did rain - will be hauling around the hoses again today!
Dollywood sounds like torturewood to me. Not my cuppa tea.
Talking about ages- I feel 100 today - my body is just aching from head to toe. I keep telling myself that it is just the weather making me so sore, but I don't know!! Darn arm is really giving me fits - wonder if I can stay on steroids for months?? That's the only time it felt good. Man am I in a complaining mood or what? LOL
I'm reading a RobinCook book and want to get in a few chapters before I leave to go clean. Take care all - fresh pineapple on the cupboard - help yourself (first day of the diet ya know..)
Good Morning All,
Lots of things going on in peoples lives. Nice that you share with us.
Nothing going on with me except work. Good gosh I had to pressure clean a roof, house and wood deck yesterday. I have to do the roof since I am lighter than my DS, less likely of breaking any roof tiles. Well, I was racing with the afternoon rains.
Now the rains aren't so bad, can be rather refreshing, it's the thunder and lightning that comes with it that is the worry. Well I finished the roof, came down, went in the house waited til the storm was over and went back out to finish up. The roof and all looks great and we start painting the house today. But man, I haven't worked so hard in a long time. My whole body is so sore and stiff. But once I got to sleep, I was out like a log.
I thinned more canna lilies the other day, am sending them out for postage if anyone here is interested. That's over in the trading forums.
Well, I need to feed the dogs and get over to the paint store for supplies. If I hang out here too long I'll end up in chat.
Have a good one,
Molly
:^)))
Sarv...I'm not sure where you're located in MI but if you're 'in line' with southern WI you might want to hold off on hauling those hoses around. We got woke up about 3 this morning to a HUGE lightning and thunder show. I just checked the rain gauge and we got just under 3/4". Must have gotten a bit of wind too, since there are several pots (Elephant Ears and mixed planters) that have blown over.
Mary, I'm glad those fires are staying a ways from your neck of the woods and am hoping they continue to do so. Stay safe!
Anyone notice the alternating colors (Pale green and whte) on the backgrounds of the posts today? I read all the way from my last post to the end of the thread before I realized that it *wasn't* just my 'new' eyes playing tricks on me. LOL
Today I babysit. 'nuf said on that topic. ;-)
HI to EVERYONE! And y'all have great day!
~julie~
Morning McCool and everybody!
Where is Millbury, McCall?
Fun reading every ones post, wish I had something interesting to add, but I don't, except my hair is very long, very fine and have lost a lot of it due to stress, have always worn it in a twist , don't like long hair hanging down on me, Never go to have it done just trim it myself once it gets too long, besides I think I am older than most of you, LOL
And here is proof: My great-grand daughter holding cucumbers from my garden
Hey Molly! Sounds like you're a 'working fool' these days! No way would anyone get me on a roof. I panic when I'm 4 foot off the ground unless I'm completely surrounded with deck and railing! LOL (I'm serious!!)
Do you have any yellow cannas? If so, I'd like to get my name on your list.
Hi Aria! That's a cutie you got there.
I just went out to straighten up what I thought were a *few* tipped over containers. Found out that almost everything knocked over. Man, have I got the damaged plants this morning. Worst part is that they didn't catch much of that rainwater so I now I need to get out the hose and give em all a drink to get them to stand up straight.
~julie~
Super pic, Aria! (I LOVE the smiles!)
~julie~
Millbury is a dinky little town in central Massachusetts. It's a suburb of Worcester, MA. There's not all that much to the town center and I hardly ever go there. Unfortunately there's a big new mall in town and a whole bunch of Mcmansions past the end of my street where there used to be woods. Guess that's the end of picking wild blueberries every summer. I'm getting too old for all that scrambling through the swamps and brush anyway. Fell in up to my waist last year and killed my cell phone.
McCool, welcome to DG, nice to meet you. Funny thing how all across the country these McMansions move in and change the character of the small communities they invade.
Then comes the huge mall to accomodate their contribution to the economy of the nation - wiping out the little stores which once served the area. BUT we must have places to shop, because if we quit shopping our nation's economy will collapse. Never mind that the small guy is falling by the wayside.
I'm not being political, it's a fact of financial life - grow, grow, or decline.
We now have 'walled' communities here in Moab, Conforming units with dictated grounds - little 'separate-from-the-rest-of-you' blocks; areas in the midst of a community that has previously grown rather more like _Topsy. With homes and yards with individuality of look and purpose. Already the newbies complain that neighborhoods aren't clean enough, yards not neat enuff, next it'll be complaints about the backyard chickens and guardian geese.
Wait'll they see that their little walls only hold the tumbleweeds at bay. They will manage to seed over those walls in a season or two. And when we get the 30,000 population in here in this hole in the ground salt slump valley they will get the word:
_The agency that monitors our slough area down by the Colorado River has observed that our water table has dropped during the extended 10 yr drought to such a level as to affect the plants and wildlife in the Matheson Wetlands Preserve. I make the correlation that the humans in the valley will eventually notice the same difficulties. ROFL
We're going to find out why the Anasazi left the neighborhood. ;-)~Blooms
Hi Y'all, Good to see some new faces joining the GOBs.
Greatest parasite on the planet? Goes by the name of Homo Sapiens! Moves into an area, takes it over, destroys the natural balance and complains about the climate and the host area. :>)
I rekon its a sign of old age - looking back to when I was young and seeing a much calmer happier world - maybe its the rose tint in the new glasses !! ;>)
Great releif this pair of specs seem to be OK. I can move about without feeling sick. Which has to be a bonus!
I have put mangos on the counter, but be warned they are very juicy and you might need to take a shower after eating one - I did!! LOL
Picture of me back when the world was still a new and exciting place and all coloured rosy pink.
Carol
Blooms, your observations and comments are right on!
Carol, I LOVE mangoes! Thanks. I always have to eat them over the sink, esp. sucking out what's left on the seed.
