How about a PlantFiles Search Option involving photos?

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

Could we have a filter on the page providing the search results that says: "See only those with photos"? I'm thinking of something similar to seeing only open/unsolved threads in the Identification Forum, or viewing only subscribers on a member list search.

Of course, if we could do that, it might also be nice to see only those *without* photos to determine what entries need beefing up... but I digress... :)

Hmmmm. Good suggestion. (I can see it being useful with both options: see only those with images, and see only those without images.)

Bumping this up for reconsideration. :)

Done :)

Woo Hoo!!!!!

Oh... and thank you, Dave! :)

You're very welcome. :) Thank you for the good suggestion and the reminder.

I really like this. Thanks Donna for the suggestion and Dave for making it happen.

Neat idea....thanks Dave........

and TuttiFruitti...smartie....

Oh, merci beaucoup to SO1/Donna and Dave. Good idea and a handy little feature!

(Zone 8b)

Dave, thats a great feature, but .........
If you use the search and browse tools - my normal method - it still doesn't give you the option to show only those with/ without images. http://davesgarden.com/pf/search.php
Is this a deliberate difference?

I only did it for the search. I don't think I have a plan to do it with any other pages... (it might yet happen, it's just not planned)

dave

Donna - this is done. The regular search now also offers the "only images" checkbox.

Is it possible to also have the option of bringing up just those that don't have an image? It would make it so much easier to find plants that need to have their picture taken.

That's a good idea - I'll see what I can do.

Thanks Dave! Ü I should mention TuttiFruiti mentioned it first....I've just found it's hard lately to search out which plants my digi should be capturing.

Another gentle bump. This time, for Lilypon's suggestion on showing all search entries that do not yet have images.

I realize this could be much more involved than my original request as it would require three choices (all entries, those with pics, and those without pics). But oh, how handy it would be as those of us in the Northern Hemisphere sort through our photos from the past season as we await springtime... ;-)

Perhaps retain the default of showing all entries, and then two checkboxes for with/without pics where there is only the one right now? If both checkboxes should inadvertantly be selected, we're just back to the default.

This is done!!

Big smiles over here on the left coast. Both the Specific and General Searches work nicely when choices are made regarding the existance of pics. Thank you, Dave!

I discovered two issues regarding other PlantFiles searches, though. Please note that I have not used either of these very much in the past, so they may be known issues and unrelated to the latest mods.

1. When I perform an Advanced Search, say for "Tomatoes", but do not change any of the default search criteria, I get the following error:

Quoting:
Database error: Invalid SQL:
MySQL Error: 1064 (You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1)
Session halted.

As long as I make at least one search selection, such as for Leaf Type, I do not see this message.

2. When I perform a "View detailed repors on popular cultivars", the following message is displayed:
Quoting:
Warning: file_get_contents(/www/garden/inc/pf/text/cultivars/.inc) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /www/garden/www/pf/finder/index.php on line 57

The message does not preclude use of the search function, though. I can still select the plant to browse and it will yield results for the Top 10 lists and recently added images and ratings. It just looks like there is a problem.

Thanks - these are both fixed, too!

Well done! You even beat the time it took me to reboot and install a couple of Windows Updates... ;-)

:-)

Well done to you, too, for the excellent report! I wish there was an office of "Chief of Bug Reports" or some such, so that I could promote you. :-)

Dave, under her name where you put "Uber", you could just put "Chief Bug"!

LOL... Gayle, you lil hijacker! ;-)

Dave, while they got your attention, could you look into alphabetizing search results please?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Ulrich, they're sorted according to "rank" or popularity, but you can sort them by alphabetically by Latin name or cultivar.

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

Not to be greedy, but could ALL search results be in alphabetic order?
BTW this one is by cultivar:

Good call, Ulrich. It's done!

Thank you very, very, much.

Happily :)
