Anyone in the Gatlinburg, TN area?

Tilton, NH(Zone 4a)

Dh and I are planning a family vacation down there next August. He's going to a conference and the kids and I would like to go along, and possibly my father and grandparents will come, too. So what I am looking for is a cabin, something where I could cook and not have to rely on restaurants. I don't mind bringing along our own bedding, but it would have to be fairly large for all of us that may be there. Any ideas? We did the cabin thing in Maine a couple of years ago, and it was great, and very cheap.

Thanks!

Many, many condos/chalets/cabins available - in sizes from one bedroom to 8-10 bedrooms. In fact, we've got a 3-bedroom booked for next weekend to attend my niece's wedding. Some are no more expensive than a nicer hotel room ($100+ a night), although many will quickly run into the $200 and up range. (Book early!)

Most of them (in my experience) provide towels and bedding and a fully-stocked kitchen (pots, pans, cooking and serving utensils, cutlery, glasses, plates, bowls, coffee maker, etc.)

Your best bet - unless you find someone on here who can help you connect with an owner - is to do a Google search for Gatlinburg cabins (or condos or hotels) and find a few property management companies to compare against each other.

One other point - be very clear on where your DH's conference is being hosted versus where you're staying. The four lanes of traffic between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge or from Pigeon Forge to Sieverville can become excruciatingly slow during the tourist season.

Unfortunately a lot of the attractions and lodging up there bill themselves as "Gatlinburg" or "Gatlinburg area" - and those few miles between the towns can make a huge difference on how easily he can get to and from his conference.

Amen to what Terry said!

Also, the cabons and condos are sometimes way up the side of the mountain....lots of little curving roads and switch-backs to get there. It may only be 5 miles down, but might take 30 minutes to drive it.

They are stocked well and all you have to bring is your food and suitcases. Just get a handle on where everything actually is...that will be the biggest problem.

It's a great way for families to vacation though...you'll like it.
