Anniversary announcements - stay or go?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

For several years now, I've tried to remember to create a monthly announcement, listing each subscriber who is celebrating their DG anniversary, from those who have been here for one year through four (and now almost five) years of DG membership. I've forgotten to create this thread more than a few times, including this month, which is now almost over.

Even though I haven't been consistent about starting the thread, I personally like the idea of shining a little light on our long-time members as a way of recognizing and appreciating their continued loyalty and support of what was once an itty-bitty gardening site ;o)

I have noticed that those threads seldom have many followup posts to them, so maybe I'm in the minority opinion on their relevance?

I've asked Dave to consider adding an anniversary section to the "news" link, in lieu of creating a thread each month, but before I have him go to the trouble and effort of programming it, I thought I'd get a little feedback from everyone.

What are everyone's thoughts on the monthly list?

An anniversary list, along with the birthday and new subs list, etc, would be wonderful!!! Go for it!

Oakland, OR(Zone 8a)

I like it. I don't post on your list, but I sure lurk. Dotti

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

I like it too. I don't reply but I do enjoy reading it.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

I love it, even though there is not much to post as a follow-up.

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

The notices would be nice to keep - in a sense, they're events - and if they were buried as a link, they'd get less notice and be might be overlooked, especially if they were updated only monthly.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

yeah, I read them too, every time.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I like it too. I say it should stay, even if you miss a few months. Maybe you could do it quarterly instead?

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

I like it too. I am like most that posted above I don't always post to your thread but really what can ya say? Still trying to get used to the newsletter being on site and not in email.

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

JoanJ's idea or New Link listing sounds great to me.

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

I always enjoy scanning the monthly anniversaries, so here's another vote for a link on the News tab. Having it there would also show the general public how the subscribership has grown over the years. :)

I just want to make sure to see my name next month, for the big 5 year anniversary. :-)

LOL, Dave!!

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I always read the thread, but rarely post to it....it's something that I enjoy and hope that it continues in some form or another.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Dave, that's why I want to keep it too. My 4 year anniversary is in 2 days. :)

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Chuckle. Okay, okay, okay - we'll proceed with the announcements in some form or fashion ;o)

Seriously, I am VERY happy to hear that people like it even if few post to the threads - I didn't want to be spending time creating something that was of little/no interest to most readers ;o)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Read the thread also but rarely post to it. Embarassingly admit that I actually subscribed in Sept of 02 but didn't realize I had actually "subscribed" - yes I know, a true DUH moment :) Didn't actually join in the fun til March 1 of 2003 :)

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

Great - Terry! I think we're all proud of our milestones. Also, it might bring up a name, prompt someone to say, congratuations, or whatever - so I do hope you continue the mail (which I would prefer over a link).

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Great Terry!! I do enjoy reading through the lists when they are posted. It'll be 5 years for me in Dec!! It sure doesn't feel like it's been that long!!

I'm not even sure where i found it the last time i looked at it. Maybe it warrants a sticky?
I just celebrated my 4th year in June, and it went by without me even noticing it.

Starkville, MS

Definitely a "sticky" where ever it lands!

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

Hey, there's a new Anniversary link on the News Page!

Funny thing is, dave is no where to be found! Guess he needs to beg Terry to add the year 2000 subscribers... hehehe

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Well, it's funny you should mention that.

Dave did the programming to cause the list to appear automatically (look, ma - no hands!!!)

I advised him the August 2000 subscribers were noticeably absent, but he has yet to explain why that is...stay tuned! ;o)

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

But I like my version of the story better! ;)

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Okay, we'll go with yours. Just so long as Dave has a plan for those all-important five-year folks ;o)

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

wow 5yrs how the time has flown by -hey dave!!!
cant wait to see my name too!!!! :).
wow 5 yrs!

(Zone 8b)

Did I do something wrong? I don't feature on the 2004 list, and I signed up in May - 'honest injun' guv :>(((

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

okus, it's a monthly anniversary list. You were included in the May thread here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/505566/

In May 2006 you'll be included in the Anniversaries link off the "News" page.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

What a list ! There's so much on the News page that I just switched that one to be my default Home page within DG.

Kinda like starting off with the news :)

I fixed the anniversaries and now the happy 5 year annniversary folks are appearing!

August 19th was my signup date but DG really started on August 17th. It was 2 days after launching the site that I created a login system. :-)
