Our vacation in Romania, photos now online
neat good pictures..
Cool pictures-- thanks for posting! It's so interesting to get an idea of what Romania is like. I'm curious, what kind of cheeses were on the tomato/cucumber salad and on the Romanian plate?
The cheese on salad was actually made of goat milk I think, very good, salty, but not too strong. And on the plate one was feta, and one was smoked, and I guess the third was.. hmm. Jaa-a. :D Don't remember.
I also uploaded some photos of our nearby area, garden, etc.. The other folder (@ home)
Evert. I certainly enjoyed your pictures...but...why do we never see a picture of your borther? Jo
Great pictures, thanks for sharing..
Kris
Thanks-- I saves some cucumber and tomatoes so I can make a salad. I may have something like that for lunch tomorrow. :)
Nice photo, Evert. Is that taken at your home?
Jody
Backyard.. Mum's birthday. :D
Hey, if the date on that was correct, it's also my hubby's birthday!
Wonderful pictures, Evert! Looks like you had a lovely vacation. What was the plant with the pink tufted seedheads?
:)
Afaik it's a Calliandra, as the text says.. someone else could give a more specific name perhaps.
Thanks for sharing ! You are an artist in photography ! So wonderful your garden and flowers...absolutely wonderful !
I may clarify you with the cheese : we have cow and sheep cheese (the white one ), not so fat, a little salty, soft, but delicious with tomatoes. It is made very easy, from milk , without heat. We call it "branza".The yellow one, is harder and fater, but bettter as taste. We call it "cascaval". The other yellow, but soft cheese I believe is the one we call "cas" : a non salty cheese, made of sheep fat milk.
Adina
yum that salad looks like it was wonderful:)
Thank you for the information Adina :) I thought the white was feta, it was very similar, but better I think. I miss those salads.. I'm very hungry right now :D
Wow, Adina, you really know your cheeses! I'll have to check and see if any of those are available around here...
Neat pictures! I just loved that Calliandra!
Evert, you're welcome ! I've looked again at the picture with the romanian plate and, no,it wasn't feta, it has holes in it, just like our cheese. This one we call 'telemea'. I understand you did like our food.. Did you eat "sarmale cu mamaliga" ?
Danak, you can always come and visit Romania if you don't find any romanian cheese there.
Adina
Aimo, I love goat cheese too but it is very expensive here.
Adina, I just might have to do that someday. :) Especially now that I've seen Evert's pictures-- it sure piqued my interest!
Yes the food was good, and so cheap, I really liked that :) Something very different than the expensive bad stuff you might get in Western Europe.
We tried mamaliga, and it had some meat and sauce with it, is it the same thing?
Ciorba de burta wasn't really my thing.. :D
I loved the summer hits that were playing there by the way, Morandi - Beijo, and Akcent - Dragoste de închiriat, we've been having a party with them playing ;D
Evert, the sauce and meat you have been eating aren't 'sarmale', I think it was 'tocana cu mamaliga' -a meal made with meat, lots of onions, peppers and potatoes. 'Sarmale' are cabbage rolls filled with mixed pork meat.
But what about 'mititei' ?
Adina
Ok, no sarmale then :D No, I don't remember eating that either..
But we drank quite a lot of Palinca, hahah ;D
Oh, wasn't it too strong for such a hot weather ? We usually drink it during winter. I'm so happy that you've enjoyed your vacation in my country. It's such a beautiful country and the people are very warm, but had very bad luck with the communism aaand that's why we are so faraway back from Europe.
Adina
Hahah.. actually it was warmer in Finland all the time. :( I was a bit disappointed for that. Luckily the heat continued when we came back.
Yeah, but your country is becoming more and more modern all the time, don't fell bad. Just look at Estonia for example, they'll soon be more modern than us and they once belonged to the Soviet Union! :O
I really love Eastern Europe :)
I'm glad you observed the changes, yes there are big changes and Romania is on the right track. It's difficult to keep up with everything, but we are trying and want to learn from you.
Adina
Hyvin nättiä kuvia
Nättejähän ne.. :) Are you also of Finnish descent or an exchange student?? :D
LoL nope about as far away from Finnish descent as one can get, I just have a close friend who is Finnish (living in Sweden) who I've picked up a bit from.
Puhun hyvin vähän suomea, ja suurin osa on rumia sanoja.
:D A.. I see. Hahah. Yeah, rumat sanat are the ones you usually learn first ;)
