Coffee and...Part 23...! :-D

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

I'm ready for a cinnamon roll and a sit down. Did the bathroom top to bottom, wiped up the kitchen floor, did a load of laundry, vacuumed the LR, hall and BR, now I'm all sweaty even though the AC is on. No idea what to make for dinner, but I'm thinking potato salad, sliced tomatos, something on the grill ....got to run to the store anyway so maybe I'll see something that will strike my fancy. We've eaten grilled brats for two days so that's not an option. Maybe I'll see if Sam's has lamb chops that don't cost an arm and a leg. Whew, I better hit the shower. See y'all tomorrow, (grabbing cinnamon roll and skeedadelling)

Memphis, TN(Zone 7b)

May I have a cinnamon roll please? Been in Mt. Home AR this weekend visiting inlaws and doing birthday stuff. Father-in-laws b-day was July 22 and mine is 8/3, so we always have a b-day weekend in between. Went out on the lake yesterday for a swim and it was wonderful - nice breeze and the water temp was just right! We'll be heading home later this afternoon. Right now I'm sitting looking out into the woods as I type this - and there's all kind of activity out there - goldfinch, nut hatches, cardnials, indigo buntings, downy woodpeckers....squirrel jumping from tree to tree. Almost paradise. I'll post some pics DH and I took yesterday am on the Norfork river - really nice - in the photos forum. But I'll have to get on his laptop to do so.

So - everyone have a good day - more later!

Hi Gobs,
It was DILs birthday this week, so DS got the idea of sending her to the spa for a 'Queen for a Day' treatment. While she was gone we - DS, DH and I 'did' the master bathroom. Painted walls, cabinets, shelves etc and fixed the lighting. He hoped to do more but there is a limit to what 3 folk can do in 6 hours when assisted by a 2 & 4 year old!!
It looked great when we were done, but I was sorried about his choice of wall color. I was right - she was thrilled with the redo - but not with the color, grey is very smart with lots of white and red accents, but its not cosy and feminine. Guess we will be doing it again soon!!
I think I might volunteer to childmind and leave them to it. I was so stiff it wasn't true afterwards. There are an awful lot of nooks and crannies in a bathroom.
Hope the wedding went Ok Sarv. lets have the low down soon or we will all die of curiosity.
Carol

Spelling again!!

Okus, the chip was one notch lighter than the paint job, but I'm pleased with the pale peachy/apricot my bathroom ended up. The pieces begin to come together. I have indoor plumbing again.

This is DS in the doorway, I took the pic thru the window. was balanced on a crate - that's why he's laughing. He had a drill in his hand headed for "what's next".

BB - the wonders of technology, 'putors in paradise! watching for photos post.
M5, you deserve a rest... but thanks for leaving a cinnamon roll for me.)) and the Lily is gorgeous. My back garden is full of that invisible shy grass. LOL

Forgot the picture, shows the wall color pretty accurately.

Win, win - handsome DS, AND pretty walls!

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

I sure could go for a cinnamon roll and a cuppa.11:30 now and I've repotted 24 brugmansias,5 hellebore seedlings, and 7 liberetia chilensis seedlings as well as watering 80% of the backyard plants. Got some good Fostoria pieces at the Estate Sale yesterday.Spent my allowance for the next 3 months, but it was worth it. Didn't get any super deals since I'm anything but a bargainer, although I did get her to knock off a hundred bucks which helped a lot.Today is the Farmers Market on the Everett Waterfront. They always have huge bunches of flowers cheap, and lots of good stuff. Gots to put shoes an sum real clothes on and get thar. Hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday, and that we find out how the wedding went.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Hi again. Cinnamon rolls, yes please! Just what I need to go with my cup of tea.

Robert, you say you're not a bargainer and you got a $100 price reduction! Could have fooled me!

Thanks for the compliment on the lasagna bed. If you want to see the whole project from the beginning go over to the Garden Talk forum to a thread called "Lasagna garden, so far", where I posted my progress as things developed. How to hyperlink it escapes me so if somebody can do that I'll say thanks in advance. Late summer would be a good time to start one since the layers of materials would break down better in the heat as long as it is kept damp. I got mine all layered just in time to water it good before freezing weather hit it.

Speaking of damp, I need to go set a sprinkler in the lasagna bed and then irrigate the vegie garden before things start looking stressed. I'll try to get a few pictures taken so you can all see where I spend a lot of my time.

Arrrgggg! I am not in a good place.

My mother's doctor called me today. She's not doing well. Refuses to eat, won't let them do the breathing treatments for the pneumonia, won't take her meds. Her IV keeps collapsing and they are running out of veins to move it. He wants to have a surgeon come in and put in a central line in an artery (or maybe the vena cava) in her upper chest.

I have given my permission, because with that line they can keep her hydrated, and as she goes down the tubes they can at least give her meds to keep her comfortable.

Starkville, MS

Darius - God's love to you and your Mother. Go to your favorite flower. Be still, and listen.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

feeling for u darius. It's hard to see ur parents' decline and eventual passing. We ended up deciding not to put in an IV line with my dad because he could still swallow his meds ok almost till the very end. Doc said he'd do it if we wanted to but as long as he was comfortable, he'd prefer not too cuz it would just delay the end. But if he refused his pain meds, we would definitely have had to go with the line - his pain escalated in the last week. Those decisions are so difficult and so necessary. Thinking of ur mom and u lots - and prayers for a peaceful passing.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Laura, and tgif, Thanks. Laura, you might remember I thought my mother was on the way out last summer, 3X in Acute Care, and she's still here. She may stay here for a long time yet despite what the Docs think.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Yeah, I remember, and the timing of the end is one thing we never know! And it was different with dad, his cancer was terminal, no way he could recover and go on for a while yet. Does your mom has a specific illness or mostly old age problems - sorry, that part I forget.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Mostly old age, although she has had a stroke. Cannot see well enough to read, threw her hearing aids away (by accident) and does not hear well without them, threw her partial dentures away by wrapping them in a napkin on her food tray and didn't tell anyone, has a supra-pubic catheter into her bladder, and cannot even push herself up in bed, much less get out of it. (Although she did climb out a few months ago and fell.)

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Our thoughts are with you Darius, in this stressful time. We trust that they will give her all the care necessary to keep her with you.

Sister visiting, ate too much talked ourselve silly, now going to bed. Check in in the morning.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

oh ack - really not good situations. And that climbing out of bed thing - so many times that happens in the last stages or months, saw it a number of times when i worked in a nursing home. Amazing! You really do wonder why sometimes. And also, how can she continue on and on when her body is so weak? No answers, that 's for sure.

(Zone 8b)

Darius I am so sorry you are going through this. It is an awful time, I had similar when my dad reached the end of the road. He didn't quite make the new millenium but I can only think that was all that kept him going. He couldn't move without a lot of help, he had Parkinsons, but he could put up a real fight if they tried to get him to do something he didn't want to!
There is so little that you can do, and it hurts to be so helpless ata time like that.
Carol

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Darius, so sorry to hear about your mom. The feelings of helplessness are the very worst. I suspect that you are sort of like me, a "take charge, get things done" type, and there is absolutely nothing that you can do, except be there if not physically, then mentally. I know that if we could, we would go through the pain for them. Just put her in God's hands and trust him for the outcome. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Darius, I never know what to say to people in situations like the one you are going through now. This is one experience that I can't say I've been through. I lost both my parents before I was 35 (Mom to brain cancer / Dad to a supposed run in with a train (L-o-n-g story)). I only listen when a person needs to talk and be there when the one left left behind needs a shoulder to lean on. We're all here for you and our prayers and thoughts are with you and your mother. (((( ~hugs~ ))))

Sorry I haven't been around much the past few days. My arm has been holding me back from just about everything, including typing and raising my coffee cup. (Robert...turn your head here...I'm going to say a 'girlie' thing. LOL) I even had to have my husband 'hook up' that contraption I wear on my upper body. All he had to say was "I'm sure glad *I* don't have to wear those things." hehehe (ME too!) It's getting better today...but it sure has been a lot of pain. I'm glad I didn't let those weeds go any further, I'd have been in full body traction with a week more growth! (M5...that's not 'sheygrass'...I just call it 'ornamental' and let it GO! ~giggle~)

Sarv, hope the wedding went well....and that you're feeling better now that it's over.

All that painting looks great and sounds great! I'm glad *I* am *not* the one doing it this year!

Well...I can't stick around right now. Yesterday we made tomato sauce, today we're making it into Italian sauce for the freezer. DH did up 3 gallons of bell peppers yesterday and we picked beans and okra. Okra is roasted and frozen, beans will be canned today. So I gotta get on the ball and start snapping.

You ALL have a good day...be back when I can.

Having a bit of light rain, but clearing expected soon. Helps a lot with the garden. The Farmer's Market yesterday was good. Bought a loaf of potato bread, couple knit dishcloths and a basket of 'donut' peaches.Just tossed 6 years worth of Quarterly Catalog's from the local Community College.Don't know why I hang on to stuff like that, nostalgia I guess. .Probably won't be taking any more classes since I've taken all the ones of interest, and some 2 or 3 times. They also added 25% of the tuition fee to the per/credit cost. People over 60 had been able to audit 2 classes per quarter free, except for lab fees,if any. Still visit with some of the instructors on occasion, and donate to the Foundation to help buy stuff not in the budget for selected classes. They have.so I've been told, the best Photography program in the NW. It's going digital more and more each year, which may not be all bad.Feel bad that I haven't been in my Darkroom for months. That little Olympus digital is just so easy to use.
Darius, as Julie said,I don't know what to say other than I'm sorry to hear of you mothers failing health.
Julie, sorry about your arm. With all that canning and freezing it doesn't sound like it you let it win.DW's first act on getting home is to remove that "upper body contraption" and keep it off unless she has to go somewhere.
Going to the cabin Wed. eve for a few days.It used to be such an idyllic place, but several years ago the Trustees passed a rule prohibiting lap dogs below deck, then 2 years ago they passed another one requiring all dogs to be crated or muzzled on the boat, and last month they said no bags are allowed on the deck by your feet.Looks like the Board is having the Community run by lawyers.Being there is fine,it's just the trip to and from on the ferry thats a pain.My Shelties have never been 'dogs', but always well mannered and obedient companions, and these rules are an insult and offense.oops-getting irate again.Sorry.Think I'll clean out the dishwasher and make a batch of baked custard. Bought two 1 1/2 dz. boxes of eggs 'cause it was buy 1 get 1 free, not because we eat that many eggs.So what do I do with 3 dz eggs before they go bad??? Bake a bunch and make some egg salad to start.I've rambled on enough, more than enough really.Wishing all speedy recoveries and good health.

I Thank Everyone for the warm words about my mother. I know it is inevitable. We all know it is inevitable the generation before us will pass sooner or later, and then it will be our turn.

For some food comfort, I made another sopapilla cheesecake. Help yourselves.

It's unbelievably hard to lose a parent no matter what your own age when it happens. And no matter that you know it's coming it's a shock when it happens. (((Darius)))

Making some comfort food is always a good thing. Ooops, sounded almost like Martha, teeheehee. I'll take that lower right corner, it looks just right for me, thankyouverymuch. ;-)

Robert for just a minute there I thought you were saying you were emptying the dishwasher to make the custard in it. ROFL

Thanks, Blooms.

Robert, save us some of that egg custard!

My landlord and his brother went rafting yesterday on the Ocoee River (nearby). He bought ink cartridges for my printer plus glossy paper and asked me to print out the photos for him. Here's one I thought was particularly good. (And, I used very little of the colored inks in printing, so I have lots of ink left!)

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Oh does that ever look like fun! And cool!! Not much to say today, went and golfed early and then we shopped and lunched, and shopped some more.

Tgif called that "Sheygrass", because we've been fooling around and being silly on the pets forum looking for a nonexistant dog named Shey, in a photo that a new member posted. She accidentally cut him off, and we spent 8 days enhancing, circling and embellishing the photo trying to find that blasted dog, and making jokes about it. Look in Pets, and find the thread that reads Picture dog

I'm back in the world of the living (although I feel like the living dead..) Only had 3 hrs sleep for two nights in a row.. Tonight, hopefully I'll be able to sleep the whole night thru.

Wedding was an absolute - magnificient success. (why do I worry so??) Weather was sunny and nice-low 80's - park where it was held was beautiful and everything went totally right...amazing isn't it!! The bride was teary as were several others - me included. Their 8 yr old son was in the wedding and it was so so beautiful to see them finally get things together.

A funny thing did happen. The minister who married them was a family friend (and a female) At the rehearsal, she couldn't get their new last name straight - she kept pronouncing it wrong (about 20 times!!) The day of the wedding she said she kept practicing it on her drive out and wasn't paying attention and had to slam on her brakes and a cup of coffee went right down the front of her. She had to return home (she just moved into a new place) and find something clean to wear. She was a wreck...we all laughed at that one!!

By the end of the evening, people were dancing on tables (not me!!) and they had a belly dancer show up and give a performance (she was the brides instructor) It was something else - but totally them. I got the pics developed today and they are beautiful - if I was smarter, I'd share them with ya all.

I've tried to catch up on all the news, but am just too tired to think much. I did note Darius's mom not doing well - thoughts are with you - I fear my time is coming... My mom called me on the wedding day and said the dress she was gonna wear was just too tight and could she wear her brown house dress!! I SAID NO!!!

Took the kids to the airport at 4:30 am - Bride was hanging out the window sick (fear of flying) while my son passed gas (nervous trait too!) My sister and I sat in the front about dying of laugher....Time for a whiskey slush and then I'm gonna hit the hay for a good nights rest. Unfortunately the rotten hot, humid weather has returned, but since it stayed away on the wedding day, I will try hard NOT to complain about it....

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Hello again. I'll have some of that yummy looking pudding, thanks. I haven't make any dessert in a long time and don't feel like adding heat to the house from the oven.

Darius, I'm sorry to hear that your mother is so ill and possibly slipping away soon. Who knows, maybe she will rally and stay with us awhile longer. In any case I hope her passing will be peaceful and that you will be comforted knowing you have done what you could do for her. (((Darius)))

We had thunder storms yesterday afternoon and last night and this morning too, so I was offline and unplugged for quite a while. As usual, my life from day to day can be unpredictable and I was gone a lot too. Last evening about an hour before dark as I was admiring the coming thunderstorm the neighbor came and was ready to move the lambs from the pasture to the corrals. Oops, I had misunderstood and thought it was set for for tonight. So I quickly saddled a horse and went out to help get them. They are little rascals, have no momma to follow anymore, no idea where we were taking them, and with the wind blowing and some flashes and thunder, they weren't exactly cooperative. However, after a few detours we got them through several gates, across the road, past a pond and the field where their mommas are pastured and into the corrals. I rode home in the dark watching two forest fires blazing away (more on that in a minute) and watching lightning flash in the distance. Thankfully, the storm went around us and my horse is used to all of it. This morning I went back to help sort out 120 lambs to sell, a bunch to keep for replacements, and take the rest back to the pasture they came from last night, return trip was smoother.

The fire that is closest to me (probably 15 miles as the crow flies) is about 600 acres at last report and in rough, steep country, on national forest land where there are few roads. The interagency team is fighting it with 310 men and a few heilicopters, tank trucks and lots of hoses. The weather is not cooperating, its been quite windy, very low humidity and no rain. The other fire I could see is across the Snake River in Idaho. It's pretty spectacular to see a whole mountainside on fire!

That whitewater rafting picture looks exciting and refreshing. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

We're having fried summer squash for dinner! Been looking forward to that since last squash season. I slice it in about 1/4 inch thick rounds, dunk in beaten egg, coat with soda cracker crumbs and fry it until lightly browned in a little oil, then drain it on paper towels. We sometimes sprinkle parmesan cheese on it, sometimes lemon juice, or just eat it plain, depending on what happens to sound good at the moment.

Have a good evening.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Oh boy! Baked CUSTARD! Now that's a dessert I'd *never* turn down! Thanks Robert!

Well it's 'morning' here and a babysitting day. I've managed to get my hours trimmed back to only 2 days a week until school starts and my older DGD's go back to school. I'm not sure what I'll do then. It's just a good thing I have one of them here with me today. I did something stupid last night and found out that it still hurts. LOL (But my typing is 'ok' as long as I rest my arms on the desk while doing it. Notice I *didn't* say my *spelling* is improved)

M5...thanks for the clarification on the name of that grass...I thought I needed to look up another weed in the PF. LOL

Better run...little one will be here before I can get dressed.

I'm so disorganized! Sigh. I thought my eye appointment was this morning, a 45 minute drive over to the next town. Nope, it's next Tuesday. What a dunce. Guess I need to find a very visible spot to hang my calendar next to the computer where I spend so much of my time.

My sister sent a photo of her kid, her high school graduation photo taken in June (she graduates next May if she passes everything). Man, these professional photographers make them look so attractive and grown-up. The photo is for my mother in the hospital, I just have to find a hanging frame. I'll take it with me next week when I go up for a visit.

Mary, I worry about you and the fires. Stay safe.
Sarv, sounds like the wedding was fun.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Good plan on the calendar relocation! Don't u just hate it when u do things like that? grrrr! Too much on ur mind, girl. Worries and more worries..... have to agree on the graduation photos - most times u can barely 'see' the kid in the shot.

Hi everyone,
I need to sit in the cool for a while, and unwind.
I have just driven DS car across to the garage - some way from Keller, arond 50 miles, and its hot. The car needed work on the brakes - every warning light in the book was flashing. He wouldn't let DIL drive it over in case there was a problem, from which I gather I'm dispensible!!
She did drive over to bring me back, but in the SUV. We have to do it all again in reverse tomorrow to collect it.
He is away from home at the moment so its a good time to get it sorted but .... KIDS!! don't you just love 'em even when they are 35 year old kids.
Glad to hear the wedding was a success. Now you can relax again Sarv. Julie don't overdo that arm or it will be forever getting right.
I'm off to get my new glasses in a few minutes, just had a call to say they are here. I hope they are OK, the last lot had to go back because they were totally wrong and made me feel sea sick just walking across the room. I know they take a while to settle into but these were just wrong. It took ages to convince the store too, and get a refund so this is a different place. Its a lot of money to throw away if they are wrong so I'm nervous about it.
Carol

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Okus, no AC either?? Me neither, and heat does increase the tension of driving with a less than perfect car. Something else I've also done. Fairly often, actually, as I've never had a remotely ''new'' car. Well since I've been "Me". Back when there was a 'we' we had a coupla new vehicles at intervals.

But we wore em out we didn't trade 'em in. LOL ~/;-)~

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Any custard left? I love custard! I'm making a peach crisp and the oven just dinged the five minute warning. They were pretty juicy, so we might have to temper them with ice cream. :-)

Spent the day shopping again, sis looking for a tunic type top for her gd's wedding in Sept. Trying to match it up with a pair of lavender slacks a friend gave her. No success, TJMaxx, Burlington Coat Fact., etc. I offered her the two piece dress I wore for son's so we'll see if she takes me up on it. Doubt I'll be wearing it again any time soon.

Fires in this dry hot season are a worry, Mary, I hope they burn out soon and don't come near you. It's unpleasant just seeing and smelling the smoke.

Carol, I read somewhere that quite a number of new eyeglasses are made incorrectly, so your experience is not unique. Good to walk around the shop when you get them just to see if they give you the wobbles. Most places don't grind the lenses themselves, they just go pick out the correct (?) lens from their stock , or send them out to be done at a lab.

Darius, I've done that appointment thing more times than I care to admit. Or missed it altogether. My senior moments seem to be running continuously these days. Stood in the spice shop yesterday trying to remember what it was I had been looking for one day, and had run out of. Didn't remember what it was until I got home, and checked my cupboard, It was paprika. And I had already bought the replacement!!

Soup's on, gotta go set the table. Happy day to all.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

>>_They were pretty juicy, so we might have to temper them with ice cream. :-)
_
HA HA HA... I'll have the ice cream with mine please. And wasn't there some whipped cream ? around here somewhere?... I'm not above RediWhip. as long as it's cream, whipped. LOL My peach tree is dying one trunk at a time.

My sis and I and 'Spin all exchange clothes by mail for special occasions. If we're in a hurry we use 'Brown'. one time my Sis borrowed something of 'Spins for a pre Christmas party and got it back to 'Spin in time for New Yrs.
Now _that's getting your money's worth.

Morning everyone = last hot day to put up with so they say. Can anyone remember a summer as hot as this one? Most years we never hit 90 = this year it's the norm.

Our pool is completely green - I don't know what happened....DH never tests it - just throws in chemicals. I think he did something wrong. I refuse to get involved in it because once I start the job will forever remain mine. I know we waste a ton of $$ overusing chemicals, but it is the principle of the thing!!

I've completely fallen off the wagon- eating double stuffed oreos and diet coke for breakfast. My arms hurts so much, I cannot think well!! Tomorrow I go clean, so that won't make it any better.

As soon as DGS goes back home, I need to make work of getting back to the doc.

Gonna do BLT wraps tonight for din din= everyones welcome = someone else can bring dessert!!
