I am deeply interested in other people pictures but don't appreciate chasing my computer screen around trying to see them. I find it absolutely painful to view pictures when more than one is posted. The thumbnail looks like a postage stamp, almost useless as to determining subject matter. There is no "next" to view quickly and I find this one to one viewing a misery, almost stone-age technology.
A new method should be adopted to make pictures more readily accessible and of better quality, Jpg'ing to a low value may be convenient for storage and transmission, but too low a value makes for lousy pictures. Here is an example of what is available, to indicate that I am not just babbling. It is no longer acceptable to imagine that most peeople have a slow internet connection. Time for some improvements. It is time for the IT people to get with it.

One gets a quick clear thumbnail, then if desired can get a quick larger image, and viewing is a pleasant experience.
Picture handling needs improvement on this forum. A grainy, slow, over jpg'ed picture is not my idea of pleasant viewing.

Flowers are mainly about pictures.

Hi Durgan1--I had no problem with the link. Lovely photos!
Durgan1: are you referring to the pictures in the Plant Files? I, too, find it frustrating navigating through the pics there. However, the quality of the pictures is dependent upon the photographer and the camera used--these are amateur pictures, posted by regular gardeners.
Most people do have high-speed internet, but there certainly are folks here who are still on dial-up. It would be a pity to exclude them or further limit their ability to navigate the site.
Check in with Dave--he may appreciate seeing an alternative approach.
Rhonda
Yes, this thread should be posted in Dave's Garden forum. Though I agree, I don't look at all pictures, because of clicking in & out. Dave, probably has a reason for this format (identification, organization, etc) & Hey! He's the man!
Dave Rocks,
Abigail
Your pictures are nice, but are way to big for my screen. I had to scroll both ways to see it all.

I can't resist responding to the comment that "most people have high speed internet connections". I'm sure I'm not the only member who uses dial-up to access the internet. As a note: some people in the country aren't able to get high speed connections (and may not be able to afford the fees if they could). I have no problems opening the pictures and am very greatful to see the lovely pictures. I am new to the forum, but I personally feel that whatever allows everyone to see and read should be the norm. All in the spirit of helpfullness.
Durgan1, you obviously have a superb camera and are an excellent photographer. Most folk who post here are gardeners firdt and foremost photography is an extra, and most are not IT people either. So they do the best they can with the equipment they have.
By the way, it is rather rude to join a club and try and dictate to the membership after only two days!
This is Daves site and he does a splendid job. He is very open to suggestions for improvement. If you think something could be done differently with advantage, why not send him a politely worded ( I suggest you don't tell him to 'get with it') private email.
bksmall you may be new here but Durgan1 is newer, and I suspect younger!!
That's what I thought, too, Okus. You made valid points, Durgan, but BAM! You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
There's a duplicate of this post here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/532037 Perhaps rather than cross-posting to various forums we could all go to one single thread?

Thanks Gardenwife, I have transferred my comment to the other thread. I notice there are actually 3 threads on the same subject! I just replied on the first I found but you are quite right the other is getting more attention.
