First brug seedling in bloom!!!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

What a nice surprise I woke up to this morning!!! My very first brug started from seed blooming....

The seed was from poppysue and was started on 4-21-04

It is a cross between Ecuador Pinkx sdlg (ursulinexcubaz)....

Somehow in my wildest dreams I didn't expect it be PINK !!! But it is!!! Not only pink, but pink with nice tendrils !!!

Must be the CA. weather...right kell !!! :-)))

Can you see I am very happy!!! The Sdlg is now over 6' tall and has a dozen or two buds and a lovely fragrance too!!!

Imagine I had just been thinking...no more seed starting...I have too many brugs!!! Well, maybe just a few!!! How can I stop now!

BTW...I have been watching your posts, but I got a new camera a week ago and have been busy learning how to use it.

Opinions please!!!

Oh my, what a way to start seed growing. You are going to be so addicted. She is such a beauty, Margie. Absolutely. Everything about her is great. She looks large too, is she? Big, frilly and pink. You can't beat it. LOL I bet Sue is thrilled also.

Your picture is great too!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

kell...gulp...I still have to write to Sue !!! She hasn't seen it yet!!! I will do it right now !!!

Thank you for your very nice comments!!! :-)))

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

OK...my PM and photo went off to Sue! I want to get the credits and all right !!!

I will have to go out and do some measuring...be right back!!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

It really is beautiful Margie. Just so pretty. She has a different look to with that elegant and long corolla tube which is narrow and then flares into that great girlie skirt.

We want to see lots of her esp when more open. What a sight that will be.

What pollen are you going to use on her?

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

kell...what do you mean "what pollen am I going to use on her?" I thought I just said, no more seeds! :-o I only have a dbl white and Janet Reno open now for pollen. I do have some Rosamond pollen, but it is from a few weeks ago and I didn't refrigerate it. I don't know if it would still be good?

OK...just remember, you asked for more photos!!! You just might be sorry!!!

LOL Margie. I have said that many times myself. But I just can't help it when I see a good bloom. It is so easy to do. I can even do it well. LOL. Though I am thinking of advancing to fancy hibiscus. Such color variety there. I can't stand it. Do you hybridize your beautiful daylilies? I bet that is so exciting.

So many plants and so little time, so little room. I want to grow everything. LOL

If you want some pink pollen let me know. I am sending some to Doris today and can put some in the mail to you. I have a large variety right now. I will email you the kinds.

Put the pink on the double white!!!!!!!
Its a beauty
Congrats to you and Sue!!!!

OH MY GOODNESS - Margie - how thrilling for you!!!! Congratulations to you and PoppySue - Holy Cow what a beauty. How DID you do that Margie -- get a seedling to grow so tall and flower when you didn't start her till April???? I've got serious zone envy!

Keep going - your on a roll now!

Diane Krny

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

pssst - Diane... that was April last year - 2004.

BUT that's even more impressive in my book. I'll have a very hard time growing a seedling for 2 years before getting the first bloom. Thankfully it looks like the seeds I started this winter and spring will all be blooming soon.

What a great candidate for your first public shoot with your new camera.

Fantastic job on both!!!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Thank-you! Thank-you! Thank-you !!!

Kell...if you can think of some pink that you have that would be good on her...yes, please send it. LMK if you need my address!

Yes...it had been a long wait since last spring! She was over-wintered in my little hoop house....this year I may have to bring her into my main house!!!

The brug that I thought was Janet Reno...when uncovered her from the back of my containers is really Whiskers! How would that be for a mix??? Also Miners Claim is blooming too! I think I will just put it on all of them!!!

My DH just got up and I took him out to see her...he was impressed too!

Who ever thought plants would beable to bring me so much happiness! And also the friends I met through the plants!!

OK...she will go on the double white first....

Just call me Happy!!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL. I know that feeling. I sent you pics..........check email.

Margie, They are gorgeous beatiful color and so large! What a great job you have done growing this one. PoppySue will be happy to see this one. I can smell her from here. Great pictures also.

Margie, I'm just overwhelmed - your seedling is stunning, every thing about her is perfection!!!! I am just thrilled for you and, wow, did you camera come at the right time, I guess you'll be camping in the garden with her, I know it will be difficult to stay too far away from that beauty. I'm not familiar with sdlg (ursulinexcubaz), and would love to know more about her. BTW, I think it will be very important for you to trial her in southeast Arky, because it looks like, to me, that you and Poppysue have a real winner on your hands!!! Congrats to both of you!!! Do you have more seedlings and does Poppysue?? If so, I'd love to see them. Have fun with her, you've worked hard and it is paying off big time!!!

PS - is she fragrant???

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Margie, she is very pretty. Sue did a good cross to get one this pretty.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Oh my goodness, she is a beauty!! Congratulations Margie & Poppysue!!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Thank you all !!! I have written poppysue...but have not heard back yet. To tell you the truth I know nothing about the Sdlg...uruline X cubaz.....I will have to look them up! I don't even know what color each of them are or the sdlg that they produced. I do have a few more from this same cross. I will have to see how many once it cools down outdoors. This is the first bloom on any of them though.

She does have a very nice fragrance...not over-powering, just nice! Just right!!! Right smell, right look...:-)))

Anyone know where poppysue lives? We might just need a trial in the south Sherry! And BTW...thank you for your very nice comments! I had a feeling you would express alot of happiness for me!

Sorry no more photos right now and do you know I still didn't get her measurements!

I did get some pollen from her and put some on the Dbl. white, on Miners Claim and on Whiskers! I couldn't put any pollen on her blossoms because I am afraid I was too rough getting the pollen....and she is injured ! ;-(

I do know better for next time though. I learned a lesson today....I was so afraid of injuring the petals, that I didn't think about her internal organs and what I was doing to them...

I don't know if she will ever have a place in the brug world...but I do know that she will always have a place in my garden and in my heart ! VBG !!!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

She's gorgeous! Looks like satin!

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Margie, I can imagine how proud you must be. She is absolutely gorgeous.
I have one that I am growing again this year, that is my first colored seedlings from last year. I named her after myself , being my first. I am anxiously waiting to see if she is as pretty as she was last year. Mine was alot lighter in color than yours.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Thank you Karrie and Patricia...

Patricia...do you have a photo of your Sdlg from last year? I would love to see her!

I will take more photos when it gets alittle bet cooler...

Margie, that is awesome!!!!!! Love the elongated narrow trumpet, color and tendrils.Definitely one to be named.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I ditto what Barb said, AND I love her stylish, ruffled skirt and flippant recurve!!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

You guys make me soooo happpy!!!!

poppysue wrote me and sent me a link to the daddy...it should read Urululine X cuba 2...not a z.... I think she got her recurve from her daddy...As soon as sue answers me as to whether I can link her site...I will be back!!

Barbara...I know you hybridize, right?! Do you really think she is one to be named??? Is she different enough?

poppysue wrote that she had flooding in her GH this winter and has none of the Sdlgs from this cross...she did say that a few other members do have the seeds...
