Today is the big day. Our old maple is biting the dust! Here are some pics! I took the first one early and to my surprise the DC picked up the fog that I could not see with the naked eye. Amazing, huh? Well, here they are. The first one is before the cutting began!
Tree coming down
What a shame to have to cut down that beautiful tree - but it looks like it could be a danger to the house and power lines. Please say you are going to keep all the shredded up pulp for mulch so that that old friend will still be a useful part of your landscape!
I know it's hard to let a beautiful tree down....
My brother just sent me pix of his and his wife's house in Texas.. They had the men to come and cut down old pecan tree that was next to the house.. The tree bark was 42' inches around. Very old pecan tree!
Buckimom, just curious, if you would care to reveal how much it cost to have your tree taken down. We have one about 100' tall and it's a danger not only to us but three of our neighbors as well, even though it's a healthy tree. We've had tree people come to give us estimates, but they just shake their heads and mention having to get a bucket truck or extra ropes, or people, or some other excuse, and they never come back. I suppose if this tree was in an open field it would be a totally different story.
Okay everyone here are the last three pics. The tree men did not get to do the stump today. So our back yard is a mess. They are coming back on Monday to finish the job. That is my DH with the Bud Lite, it was hard work watching the tree men cut the tree down! LOL

I had a tree taken down just two months ago, a very large green ash. I checked with the BBB in our area an chose an arborist who was insured to do the work. About 375.00 for the tree and stump grinding.
We had two estimates one was $1800.00 and the company that finally did the job was $ 900.00. Why the difference who knows. Our SIL dad is going to take the wood or it would have been 200.00 more.
I like these tree guys. They charge to take the wood away & then they sell it to someone. Kind of double diping!
You should have some room for sun loving plants now. Maybe your hubby will have to drink more Bub Lite to make up for loss of shade. LOL!

Too bad they are taking out the stump too. Some peo down the road here took down a tree, then someone came in and carved an eagle sitting on a stump, out of that stump. I went by, saw him starting to carve it with a chain saw. When I came back on the way home, about 2 hrs later, he was done and gone and had left this magnificant eagle in it's place... Next day, someone stained it. He probably charged an arm and a leg to do the eagle, more than cutting the tree down. ~ Suzi :)
I've seen those carvings around, too. Pretty neat.
There are some people craving logs into various animals or whatever & selling them at flea markets.

We have a guy here in town who had a standing bear carved I will try to get a pic of it. It is pretty neat.
buckimom,
Time to make lemonade!! Just think what beautiful sun loving plants you can have there now! Fruit trees - brugs - daylilies - roses - etc, etc, etc! How about a pool? Children's play equipment? I know the shade was nice, esp on a hot day, but this is God opening up a window... of opportunity. ~ Suzi :)
BriarRose,
I know, I know. I told my neighbor (in the big yellow house) we probably will have flowers growing we never knew we had!! LOL. I love daylilies and never really had a spot for them to shine (no pun intended). Forget the pool though, no money! Thanks for your input and your reminder of the glories that lie ahead!!
well, they do have the el cheapos at Costco for about $250-300 and price should go down soon as it is the end of the season. These would be blow up, 4' high, with pump, filter, steps and all. I would find the money to get one, IF I could ever get a fence up cheap! ~ Suzi ♥:
