Garden Partyaccepting free advice

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

I am helping my friend put on a garden wedding/reception. Her yard is large and lovely! She is renting round tables and folding chairs for the crowd--maybe 80. We will be setting the tables w/ linen napkins and stainless flatware. She is thinking of renting water glasses (not stemware) and putting napkins in them. I am thinking since her lawn is not a golf course it is lumpy. Therefore, don't you think (glass) water glasses are impractical? She always does things nicely while I am more of the picnic kind. Have you ever put on a nice party like this and used glass? I was thinking of having a "water table" or a bucket of iced water bottles. It will be the end of Aug. Accepting FREE advice. If you are going to charge for the advice well . . . . .

I think for a wedding reception she can spring for glass...If it were for the first anniversary, that would be a different story! :-)

Since I did my daughters wedding in April, I have started doing a little "day of" coordination. ( I know, need my head examined, but these girls are paying $500 for me to keep everything organized and moving properly for one day!) One of the biggest things I'm seeing at several of the outdoor weddings this summer, is they are giving out iced bottled water as favors, at formal weddings. Took me a bit to get used to seeing guys in tuxes carrying around a bottle of water, but the young people prefer it!

Try www.theknot.com for your area, and read what all the girls are doing. It's a real eyeopener.

Terre, Lots of what is being done is an eye opener. Items on the gift registry's are too much. I even saw one where video games were listed. I was hoping for mixing bowls and towels when we were married 1000 years ago.

Yeah, one of my step daughters got married a few years ago, and registered at Walmart. A lot of what was on their registry was board games, since they already had the basic housekeeping stuff, and they are NOT the crystal and china type.

Our friends who purchased a big piece of land just before they got married, registered at a tree farm!

Now that's the way to go.

Ha! I've never heard of that-- but a very neat idea! I wish I could do that now...
