Forum for Travelers?

Deland, FL

I was curious if anyone would be interested in starting a new forum to use when we travel, that we could post our destination and ask about nurseries and interesting plant sites in that area. I for one think any trip is better if it includes some plants.

That sounds like a good idea! I'm forever looking up nurseries on the internet to cities I'm visiting.

Not to mention that we might get to hook up with other dg'rs! :)

I'd be afraid it wouldn't get much more traffic than the Garden Events Forum.

Now that Dave no longer shows #Views, we don't know if folks go there or not, esp. since only the Forum Admins can actually post to those threads. Plus, it is very time-consuming to keep it up, and lately we are all so busy that not much research gets done.

A few subscribers do send us items from time to time, though.

Darius,

Please correct me if I am wrong, as I am new to the forums, but I was not thinking of it as something that the administrators would have to compile and update, more as a reference for someone to see if there was information already there for an area to be visited. In Britain especially, there are entire books devoted to nurseries according to their region and specialties.

Darius - I sent you the Prairie Arts website for MS, (thanks again for posting it). If you go to that site and click on Friday Museum - my GGGF built that house and I lived there until I was three. My Grandparents lived there until their deaths in '86.

For what it's worth, I check often to see if there's anything new and interesting posted there. I know it's a lot of work. I, like you, wish more would contribute to it.

Thanks for all the work you put into it.

I thought it would be a forum for someone to drop in and create a thread that says, 'I'm heading through Kansas on my way to my grandmas, anyone out there wanna meet? Any suggestions of things I should go see in Topeka?'

That is exactly what I had in mind, nobody knows the good places like the locals, so this is a way of finding out the latest and greatest in a specific area.

Well, when I'm headed somewhere if there are people in that Area that I want to meet I DG e-mail them and drop a hint or ask if we can meet for lunch. Darius and I met over lunch here in Jax.
On the 24th I'll be headed to a convention in Chicago, (That's a hint!!) and hope I can have lunch with some DGers.

Size123, I didn't think you meant at all for it not to be a public forum. I saw it in my mind exactly as you, ecobioangie and sugarweed and indicated. Ever since I joined DG in the old days, there have been threads of folks making a trip and asking for what's to see in the area, and who is there to meet.

My comments were just an aside to wonder how much interest the DG Events forum gets because Events could tie in with a planned trip.

Which brings up the Public Gardens Forum created last year, I think. How active is it? http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/publicgardens/

Cool house, Ginni! I love the big porch, and what look like big corbels holding up the roof overhang all around.

Darius,

Thanks for the clarification, I am new to the forum, and to be honest I joined to find out about nurseries and plant-related activities in the areas I am traveling to. That said, I have found much more here now to interest me, and I am enjoying it all.

Think about it. What with the event calendar, the roundup forum, now maybe a "places and things to see and do" forum, you would just have to have month of vacation time to get it all done! What fun! I'd read this new one if we can get it. I love to just sit and think about all the places there are to see. So, I vote yes.
