I thought it would be fun to share some of our stories of kids (including fur babies) in the garden. Here is one of mine. . .
At a recent family reunion my sister and mother revealed that when she was about 4 years old she proudly dug up and gave our Grandfather a huge basket of "onions." It turns out that the onions were meant to be tulips. My aunt, a perfectionist, had never figured out why all her spring bulbs failed. Oh boy, even 40 years later she was hopping mad! Of course my DS is also the one who scooped up and ate my uncle's guppies :-D
The funny things kids do . . . in the garden.
How cute!
Sandy
Ha ha! Last year when mine was 2 I could take him into the garden with me, plop him standing barefoot in the dirt and he wouldn't move! He didn't like the way it felt on his feet. I would run around and gather veggies while he watched. This year is a bit different, he did pull up almost all my onions before they were ready and steps on anything that's not taller than he is! It's pretty amusing though and heck, I can grow more!
Nicole
Oh Nicole, thanks for the laugh. He sounds so adorable, I can imagine him standing there like a little plant in the dirt!
This is the way to do it! Teach 'em to get their hands dirty now -- it will serve her well for the rest of her life. Oh, BTW, my big feet (attached to a whole lotta woman) sometimes trample a beloved plant from time to time at least your GD is a petite little cutie. Thanks for sharing.
Cute pic!!
Nicholas, my older son saw me pulling weeds and I guess he thought he'd join right in and he ripped the top clear off a daylilly. Well my reaction scared him and I had to calm down and explain that wasn't a weed and that mommy would show him the weeds to pull. So now he asks and he is certainly learning which are and which aren't.
Speaking of weeds, I was pulling them on day and some plants I was pulling sure were looking an awful lot like tomatoes so I just stood back and stared at them and wonderd "what the heck"... they were in the daylillies and other perenials too. Well, I was totally confused and unsure until my little Nicholas came up and said Mommy, those sure do look like tomatoe plants and I was thrilled that he had identified them!! I got an expert second opinion, and I left them in and they are great producers. They were in the compost bin and were volunteers,, THey are also in my cannas and I just let them grow..
I had a great day "away" and when i came home my husband informed me that my youngest, "Aidan", had prematurely stripped bare my meyer lemon tree. It was the bigger one too. My heart sank and I've given him many preventative talkings to to keep him off the other one. When I saw them come off a truck at Home Depot I inspected each and every plant and was tickled to bring home what I purchased.. There's always next year
:)
