Exactly Mel, I know you feel the same way I feel. It's just gotten too intense and like I said, I'm not enjoying it or learning from it any more.
Yes Mitch, I think just having fun again would be nice!
dmj1218, I apologize that apparently I have missed something you said to me on the butterfly forum, but I don't think there was any need to attack me because of it. I DO have other things to do in my life and sometimes I don't get to read thru everything and sometimes I do just forget to post because MAYBE I don't have time. I do take offense to it and I wasn't addressing YOU in my post. If you have issues with ME, please feel free to use Dave's email to let me know rather than harbor some grudge against me. If you would send me the link to whatever post you are referring to then I might know what you are talking about.

Gardening with Texas Native plants & Wildflowers. Part 7
You know I have been reading this thread for what seems like hours. In reality its only been about 25 minutes. The longest 25 minutes of my life. Texas Natives....How hard can that be???? ...How can you take a subject like that and turn it in the blasted Cat Fight????
Frostweed and others have really tried to give some good basic info. The problem is you have got to sort through all the junk to get to it.
I garden for peace, quiet, calm. To be closer to my Great Grand Mother, to my family and to be closer to God. I do grow both natives and non-natives. I grow alot of the same as my Grand Parents, their parents and their parents....all in Texas.
So really in my eyes If my Great Great Grandfather grew it in Spring, well that close enough to native for me.
Frostweed....keep doing what your doing...its great. To those who just want a war of words....take it somewhere else....
Now, does anyone know where I can get some seeds or seedings for Texas Mountain Laurel or any native mallows? And if there are any takers...I have some rooted cutting for Turk's Cap...
Thanks
Txgrndgeek
Kat
You know, I'm really not enjoying being attacked or told what to do, so I think I will take my toys and play on another thread.
Anyone grown any new natives in their yard this year? I picked up the "frostweed collection" mostly and they are all doing great. I am really proud on my Iron Weed - stunning and blooming the first year!
People, People, I love you all, we are just trying to do some good things, but if it is too much, or too controversial, we'll cut back a little, but please, let us not throw out the baby with the bath water.
All of you are special and all of you are doing wonderful jobs in your gardens according to what you think is right, and that is the way it should be.
Josephine.

Well, this is part 7 of this topic, and if you had been in from the start (which I HAVE) you might have a better understanding of where we started, and where we have become. I have put in much more than 25 minutes, and more thought to my initial reply...
Therefore, I was simply stating.... Lets Get Back to GARDENING.... TEXAS GARDENING, and ALL that it encompasses.
True gardeners will understand the feeling of walking through a garden on a beautiful mild Texas morning, just to see what is new that might have sprang up overnight, or recovered from the heat from the day before. Everything looks better in a new mornings light..........
This forum can too.
TXMel - What is the (salvia? I think) in your post? I just love that blue color... I have a thing for blue flowers :-) Great pic!
When do you guys Fall sow here in Texas? I bought a few seeds and I have some given and traded for and was just wanting to know when would be the best time to plant them?
Txgrdngeek, than you for the kind words,I like your gardening philosophy.
Are you planning to come to the plant swap in September?
If you do come I have a potted seedling of Texas mountain laurel that I can save for you.
Please let me know.
Josephine.
Frostweed that reminds me down in central Texas my little hotel had Texas Laurel TREES!!! 20 - 30 foot tall easy! I wanted to pick the seeds so bad but I was a good boy (besides they are not ready I was told!)... Mitch
I have 10 red yucca seeds if anyone wants them - Mitch
Mitch, those are May Knight Salvia. I planted them after a great discussion on favorite salvias this spring. This is my daughters only view from her window, so I planted her a purple garden... the salvias are supposed to get up to 3 ft tall (they say), and the scabiosa will stay in front, and hopefully the phlox will come back, and the Morning glories might DO something this year..... to hide the neighbors "lovely" bamboo fence behind mine.... then I added her favorite flower, a white/red hibiscus, but maybe she will get flowers next year on that!
thanks.... mel
josephine, that reminds me, have you had success with any blue phlox here? I love your pink ones, but blue is my passion! I put 2 in out front last month, and so far they are alive, but no blooms.
Looks great - was the salvia a thread in Daves? Would love to find it .. I have fallen for Salvia I think. I have four right now in blues and pinks looking for other good ones to look for! Dont you love the hunt?
I tried Davids Phlox and True Blue this year - both died frok the heat before blooming - arg. So maybe they will come up from the roots when Fall gets here. Maybe they needed more shade?
I think that it was on Daves, and I will look for it later.... must get off of here for now, and on to my chores..........
If it is on here (are we playing tag on the threads or what?) I will look for it - thanks for the tip it was on here!
I think I found it?
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/522826/
even if not it holds lots of salvia to drool over!
I think next year I am going to grow Dantura and Salvia from seed in one bed together - would it work you think?
No Mel, I have never tried the blue phlox, but I bet it would be very pretty, I don't know if it would be as hardy as the pink, probably not, but if you love it it is worth trying.
This is my third time to try Standing Cypress, and failled again, so I am giving up on it.
You just never know with plants, they are living things, and just like us, can have many things go wrong with them, unfortunately they can't tell us what hurts, so it is a guessing game, Oh well.
Josephine.
That's not the salvia discussion I was referring to, but yours is a recent one that got me even more interested in salvias. I learned that there are HUNDREDS of varieties, and more colors than I imagined. I even learned of "special" salvias that are medicinal and "beyond"... way more than I wanted to know....

There is a whole site on yahoo (members only) that is DEEP into salvias.... very serious discussions... I only read and look at pictures. Those people are devoted!
J- I will keep you updated as to the blue phlox. I hope that it does well, and that I can share next year!
mel
Really - I dont think I am that ready for the yahoo group yet! I am in seedone over there and save the plants... both are a lot of fun seeing that they are smaller groups and easy to get to know everyone.
Medical Salvia??? Now this I have to look into. We are very into herbs and growing our own meds... that does sound interesting... I am going to have to look back into that!
