Book Swap
I have a book called A Brief History Of Gardening by Neil Fairbairn in excellent condition w/slight crinkle in the dust cover.
Rachel, any sign of the book yet? I believe you've been rather busy with unwelcome insect visitors- I hope they've been dealt with by now!
I've just started reading your book and I'm hooked - I love the writing style. Must go to bed and read some more before I get too tired! (Midnight here)
I just logged on to tell you that I received your package today. And seeds too??! How sweet of you! I don't have them already, so thank you very much. I'm glad you are enjoying the book. And my "visitors" (dont remind me!) are going to be irradicated soon. I'm glad you are back in the swap.
I saw this thread and thought it would be fun to know what everyone is reading and how they liked the book, so I started a thread. Post your favorites, or comment on something you just finished.

don't know if this is still going in another thread?
can s omeone redirect me?
If this is still going, I would like to post a few books to trade. I donate to places locally, but this sounds fun. I have been in a cleaning mood, which rarely occurs! I can list what I have tomorrow. I would love some new gardening books. I know I have some hardback copies of Danielle Steele.

wish i could part with my gardening books :-D
trying to find room for more LOL, yes i still want to participate too. i wonder if they moved it to another thread?
I think it just died off.
I have lots of paperbacks ,mostly Nora Roberts, some Danielle Steele, alot of John Grisholm
I'd like to swap too
Janis
List your books and see if anyone bites. No one seems to want mine so far, but I'm still hoping.
~ Marylyn :-)
I'm sorry I can't actually take part in a swap. But I thought I'd add some recommendations from my recent reading list.
John l eCarre "The Constant Gardener". I have to admit I bought it because of the title as it cracked me up (seeing as my family thinks that what I am ;-). But I really liked the book.
The one I'm reading now (abotu 2/3 the way through it) is also quite good. Harlan Coben "Gone for Good".
-Julie
Julie, i too was interested in that from the title, thanks for the recommendation.
Marilyn, my Mom loves Agatha Christie, & i might like Mark Twain. Let me ask her, & work on a loist for you to choose from...
i have self help, religios, scifi, wetern, romance/historical, & novels in general
Ok, great. :-)
I'm so glad this thread seems to be coming to life again! For anyone who has just joined it, please see my list of 'not too heavy to post from Spain' books above. I've already received wonderful books from Rachelbee and Kathleen, and hope to trade with Tamara Faye soon. (T F, you have Dmail)! I'm even trying to negotiate a 'bulbs for books' swap with a bulb forum member at the moment! This thread was a great idea. Hope you get a bite soon,Marylyn.
Maggi
I've just posted a new thread about this bookswap in the hopes of keeping it going and getting more people interested.
Maggi
sorry i've been so slow Marilyn. I still am not "handling" things well with one hand on the mend... but i did check at our library, & they only have two A.C novels!!! So i will definitely want what you havr, so we can donate them after my Mom reads them, & it won't matter if she has read them or not.
So my next step is to see what dear ol' Mom is willing to part with off her bookshelf LOL
Sorgina, where is the new thread? Can you post a link to it from here?
Well, I can try.....Sorry, I tried to copy and stick but it wouldn't let me. I'm not good at computer skills, to put it mildly. Anyway, if you go to the list of threads in this forum you'll see it under 'Bookswap update'. No replies as yet. A direct link to this thread would be a good idea too. Anybody who knows how to do that could perhaps oblidge, and then let me know how they did it!
Sorry to be so dim.
Maggi
Here is the new thread: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/537002/
I'll paste a link to this one over there, too. :-)
TamaraFaye, I'd love to send my books to your mom. I got all three of these at various garage sales, I think, so they are not in brand new condition. They are very gently used, though - I didn't manage to drop any of them in the bathtub, something I am notorious for doing. :-) D-mail me the address when you get a chance.
~ Marylyn
Marylyn, thankyou!
Maggi xxxx
You're welcome. :-)
have started a list of books for you to choose from Marilyn, but not up to that much typing today, i banged up my wrist again ;-( i'm in the address exchange hope to be better tomorrow...
Owwww... Take your time, Tamara.
Would love to get in on a book swap, Not sure if anyone would like my books. I read things like Laurell K. Hamilton, Charlene Harris, J.D. Robb, Jacqueline Cary, Sherrilyn Kenyon, MaryJanice Davidson, Katie Macalister, Christine Feehan.
If any of those are writers you enjoy then let me know and I'll post what I have. I buy at least 3 books a week (some weeks they are hardback) I don't keep the paperbacks and wouldn't mind sending them on.
Saint
Hey folks, I got a response on my email to DG Admin. about adding a category in our trade pages for books....
So sounds like an idea!
I'll get to working on mine.
**I had copied/pasted from the email response...and it didn't show up in this thread!
So...here 'tis...
"Adding and deleting categories
on your trade page is something you can do on your own - give it a try
and let us know if you get "stuck" or need some help!

Tamara Faye, the Rosylynde book arrived this morning. Looks like a good read. Thankyou so much. I'd love the others if there's something else on my list you'd like. Can also swap for seeds or bulbs. LMK. I finally posted your book yesterday so I hope it arrives safely.
Maggi xxxx
Ohhh Roberta Gellis! You'll love that series. It's been years since I've read them, just might go out and get a few now that I've remembered how much I loved them.
Saint, i have another of the first book, not in as good condition. they all have been REALLY read, so i figured they were good LOL
Picked up some Mysteries at the library today. Their paperbacks are only a quarter. I'll post a list tomorrow. Two are Agatha Christies, my Mom is reading them first, naturally :-)
One A.C is Ten Little Indians, can't recall the other. Then I got two that are about a woman sleuth (not N.Drew!), those should go as a set...
Does anyone have childrens first readers, or (adult) gardening books? Or any type of book relating to natural science, like field guides, books about forests, trees, etc.? My kids really love nature!
sorgina, let me know what other books you have. i am not collecting any seeds or bulbs until my hand is much improved...

Tamara Faye, my list of sendable books is somewhere above in this thread. Apart from what's listed there, I've just found one fun 'Start reading, level one' book called 'Monkey business'. My son enjoyed it. Also an 'Easy to read ' version of 'The Elves and the Shoemaker'. I've also got two children's story books with a Christmas theme-'Dinwald the dragon' by f.Endersby and 'Rachel rabbit 'by Peggy Burton. These are illustrated with watercolours and are reminiscent of Beatrix Potter.
Stop press: I have just battled my way to and through my 12 year old's book shelves and unearthed the following treasures:
'Ace' and 'George speaks' by Dick King Smith; 'Dilly and the Vampire' by Tony Bradman; 'The day Jimmy's Boa ate the washing' by T H Noble, 'The Tale of fearsome Fritz' by Jeanne Willis. These are all fun and suitable for reading to young children, or reading by slightly older children once they've mastered the basics of reading. LMK if there's anything that interests you.
Maggi xxxx
sorgina: any of these would do!
Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll; Vicar of Nibbleswicke by Roald Dahl; The Frogspawn Code by Glenn Dakin; Pony in the Post by Lucy Daniels; The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis

surprise me!
Anyone have a few by Max Lucado or Charles Stanley?
Tamara, a surprise is on it's way. Hope your children enjoy it.
Maggi xxxx
I have one book by Charles Stanley and several others by assorted authors. I'll ask my husband if we are ready to trade them around or if he wants to read them again.
I will see what I have by those two: ML & CS
If no-one wants the ones I've listed, they are "going away", & i will list some others when I can...
thank you sorgina! my kids love books!
Marylyn, will let you know when yours are mailed off.
tf
Tamara, I posted 7 children's books off to you this morning. (Mostly very slim volumes). I'd love the Next years country book, but as it's a hardback I think it will be too expensive to post it to Europe. Better give it to the library. I hope your hand is improving.
Maggi xxxx
I've posted a list of books I have on my trade pages -
Books/Non plant related....most are fiction/thrillers and/or NYT bestsellers...all are paperbacks.
If anyone is interested, just Dmail me.
It's probably just me :) , but I'm having a hard time navigating this thread....is everyone editing when they have already traded a book?
Nan, I'd be interested in trading for Roots and Pompeii.
Have a look at my list, (about halfway down this thread), and LMK if there's anything you're interested in. And yes, I do edit my thread when I trade something, or find something to add to it. I must try and put my list in my trade page like you have- this thread is so long that it is getting difficult to find people's lists.
Maggi xxxx
