Book Swap

Would anyone be interested in joining a Book Swap? This was Woodspirit1's great idea (http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/526541/). She asked me to start a new post in here.

The premise is simple: I post a book I have read and am willing to part with. Someone posts that they want it and what they have to swap. After you read the book you received, you simply post it again and swap it with a new person. If you want to keep the book you received, then you just post another one you already own to swap. You may or may not ever get your original book back, so don't send out something you can't live without. :-) I think it would be fun if we all wrote our names on the flyleafs, too, just to see where the books have been.

I've been weeding out my bookshelves and will list what I have in the next post.

"Listening Woman" by Tony Hillerman- (Takes place on a Navajo reservation in New Mexico)

In return, I would love any books by these or similar authors. I don't like anything with too much graphic violence; Tony Hillerman really pushes my comfort zone, actually. Margery Allingham and Rex Stout are my favorites, but I also like Dorothy Sayers and Agatha Christie. Or something altogether different would be great! Let me know if anything interests you!

I would love to swap books! I used to pick up any old book (esp. cookbooks) at yard sales, library sales, etc, but I have switched compulsions. Now it's plants!
Although I am mostly a non-fiction person, for fiction, I have:

For non-fiction, I have

I would love any gardening-related or Herb-related books. But if you'd like any of my books, I'd gladly send them, no swap needed.

Me too! I am an addicted reader and have too many books to count....I thought I had already posted to this thread, but I must have forgotten to press send. I have a lot of paperback mysteries that i would like to swap for more of the same. (but ones I haven't read!)

So how would we go about doing this? Books can be sent 4th class special book rate, I believe...

If you have any special book interests, let me know, I have lots of different kinds of books.

I would be very interested in joining this too. I have lots of paperbacks I don't want to keep and I'm always desperate for more reading material in english as I live in Spain. I'm going to get a list of swaps together and post them on here asap. Don't know how much postage would be to/from USA or other parts of the world, but surely cheaper than buying a new book. sorgina: as an always desperate reader myself, I would be happy to send you books just for postage. What do you like to read?

Caitlin'sgarden,I like all sorts- 'serious' literature and the classics, but also fantasy,historical romance or any historical novel that is not all battles, plus non-fiction having anything to do with natural history, the middle ages, gardening, crafts or cookery. Not very keen on thrillers or detective fiction unless it has a 'historical' theme like 'The DaVinci code'. What about you?

Hi Sorgina, Sounds like we are very compatible on our reading!!
I love historical romances but I've read so many I'd almost be afraid to have any sent to me:) I love fantasy with anything fairy or elves. Silly I known but it sure does entertain me. I loved Lord of the Rings if that tells ya anything.

Tina, keep watching this thread- I'm just sorting out a list to post. I know it's corny, but Lord of the Rings is one of my fave. books of all time. Plus elvish, fairyish,dragonish anything. I may well have some books to interest you. How's your list coming on?

I wish I had known about you last year sorgina. My family brought our own library with us on our trip to Europe last year. We left several books in the place we stayed in San Sebastian as we were all done with them and tired of caring them. Good luck with your book exchange.

Thank you for the warm welcome. We enjoyed the area. It is beautiful and the food was delicious. Our dd took her last college class in Oviedo. So, we roamed a bit before her class started. I am looking for another reason to go back over and roam some more:-)

I made a list last night (on paper) all paperbacks, mostly psychological thrillers/mysteries.

Should I post it here, or shoud we maybe put these on our Trade Lists - create a new category - Books?

You are very welcome to those two books, Sorgina. I want to warn you in advance that "Listening Woman" has been passed around a lot amongst my family and it shows. It's still readable and intact, but it's a bit scruffy. I just don't want you to be disappointed when it shows up. :-)

I would like "The letters of Dorothy Sayers," please. :-) I love Tolkein and C.S. Lewis, too, but I already own (and have read multiple times) both of those sets. My husband is reading "The Hobbit" to our 4 year old right now. It's going VERY slowly because her attention span isn't very long, but she seems to be enjoying it.

We probably should ask first.

I went to my own trade page and experimented. You can 'Add a new category' on your own....so I tried it, added Books...then you can add a new 'subcategory'.....(so one might add 'Fiction', 'Non-Fiction', etc...)

That way, we wouldn't be cluttering up one thread with book titles, and it would be easier to navigate, if we each just posted 'I have some on my trade list'.

I'll wait and see, then if nothing comes of it, I'll post my list here. If anyone is interested in Psychological Thrillers/Mysteries....let me know and I can send my list via DG mail.

This looks great but does anyone has any idea how much it costs to ship books...even media mail they can get heavy...I would love to see some figures...I have some that I was saving for a yard sale.

I think sending the 7.70 priority mail bax would be the best. That way lbs don't matter. And you would pay that for a book anyway.

Charlotteda, very pertinent question. I've just been to the post office to send my first swap book, and found out rates from Spain to the US are prohibitive. I will,of course, honour the swaps I've already agreed, but ,reluctantly,I have to withdraw from any further trading. So sorry about this , I should have checked postage rates first. I hope that postage rates within the US prove more reasonable, and the rest of you can carry on swapping.

Oh, I have to disagree about the PM box.

Media Mail is much cheaper than that.
$7.70 would ship a BIG book by Media Mail.

On the USPS website, I calculated sending a book from myself to a friend in CA.
One pound (which, I'd guess, is the weight ~ or more ~ of a couple of paperback books) came to $1.42 via Media Mail.

Thanks so much for the info Nan!! But what if you are sending several books to the same person? I wonder if its still cheaper. May have to check on that.

Gosh this sounds like a great idea. I am looking for the DaVinci Code. Does anyone have it to share? I have a few movies if anyone wants to watch them and pass them along. If interested I will add a list here.

Hello fellow book-lovers! When we started talking about this swap, I went thru my books and boxed up the ones I didnt want. Since there's been no action on this thread for awhile, and I've tripped over the box one too many times, I've decided to donate them to my library. I'll take them Monday, so speak now or forever your peace!
