Why can't I edit?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I am trying to add some text to a pic I posted earlier and keep getting an error message. I tried some other posts and I cannot edit anything. Error messages read:

I can't edit either 'Chele, so I'm assuming it's a bug.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Bummer Joan! Sorry to take you down with me. Our mistakes will now live in infamy. LOL

La Plata, MD(Zone 7a)

Same thing going on for me!

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

LOL! And I thought I was being a good girl.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Cannot edit here, either.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Someone suggested it might be from the changes that were made earlier to block unsubscribed members from viewing all posts? I'm sure Dave will be back shortly. :)

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Possibly to keep everyone from editing all their posts in a panic about the change before they realize the change has been reversed?

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

That's a good thought Joan, wonder if that's really why? I can't edit either.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I remember reading once that when we edit our posts, it creates some problems and Dave has to manually do something? Can't remember for sure, but I think that's the reason we all have a limit on the number of times we can edit per day.

I'm thinking that maybe he didn't want everyone editing all their posts and that creating problems on a holiday weekend.

Arbuckle, CA(Zone 9a)

I didn't know editing caused problems. I guess I shouldn't be such a perfectionist about spelling and punctuation, or be more of a perfectionist before I hit the 'send' button. LOL

I doubt that the edit feature causes a problem where manual intervention by admin is required. Nevertheless the Edit feature most likely makes the system backup a little more elaborate.
I'm sure it's a temporary condition that will be fixed once Dave gets a hold of it, in the meanwhile use those spellcheckers :).

Dave is probably out Bar-B-Q'ing a steak, and popping a few firecrackers. Enjoying his 4th of July. What are we doing? Here we are at the computer. I can't believe I am hooked like this. Man I need a life. LOL

Linda

BTW I can't edit either. Spell check where are you?

Castro Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

Edit is a great feature! I don't understand why it would be a problem to do so, I think there's just a bug right now!

Also, can't access the DG address exchange.

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

I have come to depend on the edit feature to fix those "before coffee" posts or "flying fingers making mistakes" posts. I suppose I better read my posts in preview closer until this is fixed!

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

Do you suppose Dave is still out Bar-B-Q'ing??

Kernersville, NC(Zone 7a)

Maybe everyone rushing to edit when the forums were public for a short time overloaded something (or someone). I hope it is back soon, I am manic about my spelling. No edit is way too much pressure, I seriously need therapy lol.

Ya know, I thought my server was being wierd....glad you all were able to at least let me know it wasn't just me. I tried a couple days ago, and last night....never realized how much I appreciate that feature. Sometimes my brain just goes faster than my fingers....

Help us Dave....LOL :o)

The edit post has been fixed.

And yes, I disabled it so as to avoid a mad panic attack-induced mass-editing of everyone's posts.

When people go through and delete all their posts, it leaves threads all out of wack. Replies don't make sense anymore and it's just plain confusing and throws things all off. I strongly dislike it when people take it upon themselves to go through and ruin other people's good threads by deleting their own posts.

Thank you Dave, for being wise AND cautious. :)

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

The words "I strongly dislike it" coming from Dave is enough to make ALL of us mind our P's and Q's. I would never, never, never want to do anything to upset Dave, he spends WAY too much time tending to all our wants and needs...not to mention our whining.

I must be in a fog or something. I didn't realize the changes being made would cause folks to feel the need to edit their posts.

And thanks for fixing the edit function, Dave!

Castro Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

I'm totally confused here, I'm not clear on what you're trying to explain Dave, guess I'm missing part of this puzzle, do you normally let us know when we won't be able to edit? and remember this is only a question! LOL, I'm just trying to understand,
Annie

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

no Annie, its is usually not a problem ..just a one time thing...go ahead and misspell all you want :)

Castro Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

LOL LOL LOL!!!!
I just don't understand this part, I strongly dislike and deleting post, I'm not trying to be stupid, I don't understand, that's all!
Oh well, maybe I don't need to understand, I'll move on!!!!
Annie

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Annie, in the past there have been a few people who got into a lather about one thing or another and pulled up every entry they ever made and deleted them.

This leaves big holes in open threads. It is usually done as a knee jerk reaction and is an aggrevation that is unwarranted as well as a mis ~use of the edit function.

zanymuse explained it far better than I could have! :)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Thanks zany and Dave. :)

Castro Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

Thank you very much, now I get it, LOL, I can now see how this would be a problem, since I only edit for spelling or the RU threads, now I feel better, what a silly thing to do!
