Uploading Photo Problem

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

On a new computer and downloaded Picasa from google to help me edit snaps, etc. When I browse for a photo to post, it appears in the Browse box correctly, but when I hit Preview, the Browse box goes blank.

Is it a setting on my computer that I'm missing or does Picasa create difficulties? Thanks for any help.

I am having difficulty with (don't know which is correct, down loading or uploading ) my photos. For two or three days, when I try to download, after I click on preview, takes 7 or 8 min.. I haven't got time to sit here for an hour trying to download 7 or 8 photos. Does anyone know what the problem can be. I am using Firefox. DonnaS

Donna, have you installed any software lately, like internet security or a firewall?

Yes, Garden wife, the woman who just woked on my computer installed Grisoft, AVG Anti virus Email scanner, which she said she felt worked better than Norton that I had been using. Do you think that could be the problem. DonnaS

Norton is notorious for mucking up e-mail and web stuff, but Grisoft's AVG is pretty tame. We use AVG on our PC's. Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything AVG would do to slow down photo uploads.

At the risk of asking a too-simple question here, are you sure the photos you're uploading are small? Is it possible you've resized them, but you're inadvertantly pointing to the originals, which are large files?

gw, I think they are the same size I have been using, Used something in my camera, can't remember now what, to make all the photos the same size so I wouldn't have to resize all the time. JPEG 873 KB, which worked until now. thanks, DonnaS

That's a pretty large file, still, about 8 times the size of the files that take me less than a minute to upload. When files are larger than 999 (?) pixels on their longest side and over a certain amount of kilobytes in file size, DG resizes them smaller automatically; so, if your files are large they take longer to get to DG, and then they must be resized. That may explain some of the delay.
