Plant marker I made

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

1. I happened to hit upon an idea and am trying it out if it works. I took a 3"x2" ziplock plastic cover, wrote the details and put it in. Took a GI wire, bent it in such a way that it takes the shape of the envelope's inside bottom. Sealed it by pressing the lock, Left sufficient length of wire on both ends to poke them into the soil. The envelope will be upside down and so no moisture can enter it to wet the content.

2. In a recent thread someone gave a link to a plantmarker seller - I saw a picture there and I copied it. Here, I have used the GI wire for the hook. Cut 4 inch pieces of electric plastic casing, punched a hole and hung it after writing the name of the seed/plant. Used a glassmarking pencil to write on one side and for the other side, repeated it with permanent marker [to see which one lasts longer].

They are both great ideas too. Will give them a try also.

It's working for me so far.

What is a GI wire, Dinu?

GW,
GI stands for Galvanized Iron. It does not rust easily. Zinc wire is much better for this purpose as it has to stay in moist soil for longer periods. Does GW stand for 'Galvanized Wife'? Tongue in cheek, LOL!

Alohahoya,
I'll try to draw a sketch to explain .... please wait.

On the left is the wire hook and the electric plastic casing with a hole to hang it. On the right is the zip lock cover used as a marker with the wire bent to the shape of the envelope. Here, I have used the small packet that I got from the person him/herself so that it can save on the writing part. After putting the wire and the 'label' in side the cover, we can just zip-close it leaving the wire to jut out to be pierced into the soil.

I think the pic will be small but may give the idea.

Good idea! I thought that's what you meant, but I wasn't sure.

Ha ha ha ha, GW.
That also confirms my ability [if any] to convert my thoughts into words.
