2005 Photo Contest?

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Dave,
Are you up to us having another photo contest this year?

And if yes, could we go ahead and decide which categories we are going to have (or if we just keep the ones in place that we had last year)? That way all us crazy picture folks will know not to let a photo opportunity pass us by.

I would like to see either a best coleus category or best foliage category added.

Many thanks, Nat

Yes, photo contest indeed. If the members wish to come up with some categories that would be great.

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Super! Thanks!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Do you think we could make this (or a photo contest reminder) a sticky at some point so folks don't forget there's a contest coming?

**so many new members :) **

Maybe a "News" item?

Starkville, MS

I'd like more info on the contest - how to enter, catagories, etc. Is there a link I can go to to find out more about the contest?

Not yet....usually the instructions accompany the annouoncement about the contest, and you have plenty of time to submit your entry(ies).

Starkville, MS

Thanks, I'll be watching.

crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

how many catagories can we have? do we just submit ideas on this link? I know of at least 2 dozen "basic" ones.

I will offer my help in any way on this Dave.

How about a 'collage' category? I have seen some really nice photo collages posted on various threads.

Here are the previous contests, if you want to use those categories as a starting point: http://davesgarden.com/contest/

Nat, have you found this? http://davesgarden.com/news.php?date=2005-06-25

No Sidney, I hadn't seen that. Thanks for pointing it out for me.

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

We definitely need to move flowers out of Miscellaneous. Maybe their own category maybe with sub categories of some sort

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

I agree Stacey. I would think that miscellaneous would be more of a non-floral category (sunsets and such). Maybe a category like "All about Flowers" with subcategories such as "Best use of color", "Prettiest Single Bloom", "Best use of mulitple plants", "Spring Bloomers", "Prettiest Vines", etc.

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

Here's some of the subjects that ended up in miscellaneous. They really need their own area. Maybe move flowers out entirely as Nat suggested. I know this makes for more work for DG and for the viewers...if you consider looking at pics work Ü

Flowers
Scenery (not garden landscape)
People
Pets
Animals
Sunrise/Sunsets

I think we'll get more entries if it's clearer what goes where...not to mention how many more folks we have this year...

What about having a category for 'garden' photography? Photographing a garden and getting the beauty, feel and essence of it is really a challenge.

Perhaps 'garden' falls under 'landscape', although it doesn't seem quite the same to me.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

The veggie section needs re-vamping badly.

We don't have many entries in the pumpkin category...I'd do away with that, but maybe put in best Harvest Basket. That could include any veggie that anyone grew.

Also make the category Fruits and Vegetables....and make the best veggie patch entry..Best Veggie or Fruit Garden. The harvest basket and strangest could include fruits too.
I'll think about it a bit and see what else I come up with.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Wow, it *is* that time of year again, isn't it? Yep, definitely time to put on the thinking caps for categories - can't wait to see the submissions this year!

Herbs?

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Oh, what fun! I didn't even know we had a photo contest last year. How can I make sure not to miss it?
