Box Tops for Education Plea!

Decatur, IN(Zone 5a)

Hi All!,
I don't know if this is something that will work out but I thought I'd try. This school year will be my first year of being the head librarian at my kids parochial school. There are about 200 students and we pretty much maintain the library from funds earned w/ our two book fairs, donations & the box top for education program. This spring the school applied for a grant to computerize the library and thankfully we did get the grant. However, getting a computer to run the system we purchase was overlooked & not added to the grant request so now we've got to come up w/ money for a new computer. The library does have two older (and I mean older) computers that are used by the students to take their AR tests. The kids do their best collecting the box tops which the money goes to buying books & library supplies. So this got me thinking that if any of you buy products w/ the box tops & have no one to give them to, if you would collect them & mail them to me when you have sufficient and I'll reimburse for the postage. If any of you are interested, please let me know. The first deadline to submit them to General Mills is Oct. 31st so I'll need them a bit sooner so I can count them all & turn them in. Thanks!!!

You might try for a grant from Reading is Fundamental. They usually have several available if you qualify for them. Grants are the best way to go. Is is a bit time consuming but no more than the boxtops and such which are kind of a pain.

For the lower grades, be sure to check out the 20/50 book packs that are ofter less than a dollar a book. I used these for give aways at parent education nights that I got a grant for a couple of years ago.

Edited to say The books are from scholastic or trumpet

Hi Gemila! :)

I have a snack baggie full of Boxtops for Education that I'd love to share with someone who can actually use them! Let me sort out any that might be expired, and I'll get them out this week to the address you have listed in the address exchange. :)

Good luck!

Hi Donna,
I don't know if you did send me the box tops or not but just in case you did & have been waiting for me to refund you the postage, I just wanted to let you know that I haven't received them. I had written sooner because I didn't want to make you feel like I was hounding you for them.

Another source for free computers are USDA Farm Service Agency, NRCS and Rural Development offices. They are required to give their replacment computers to schools. I work for the USDA. My computer was just replaced. My old computer worked perfectly fine. The one thing is that they are totally sanitized; therefore, they would have to be loaded with new software, etc.
